About Flying Saurcers (sp?)

This is an actual idea proposed by Imagineering, based on on old ride that existed at DL way back when. I've seen the renderings for their proposed atractions, and it looks great...

Imagine gutting out the entire CoP building, leaving its spinning mechinisms. The walls (which would move) would be decorated with stars and out-of-this-world special efects. The middle area, would be the loading area, also decorated with stars and the "infinity" efect when closed. Inside the building itself would be self-controlled "flying saurcers". It looks like bumber cars with space effects inside a spinning room. It sounds cool to me!

Well I can honestly say that if that happened I might turn my back on Disney

I'm serious if they got rid of a classic like Carouself of Progress for a high tech bumper cars I might lose it. That would not only be a disgrace to Walt but it would be a disgrace to anyone who actually cares about Walt Disney World and it's past, present, and future. Flying Saucers might not be a bad idea as an off the shelf addition to Tomorrowland but it wouldn't be worth replacing any of the attractions over. Heck I'd rather have the Tomorrowland Speedway and I haven't done that in years
I don't mean to be rude or sound mean to you but I honestly think that the possibility of replacing something like CoP with basically bumper cars (no matter how high tech they are) is something that I find to be outrageous and disrespectful.

I see your point, but Flying Saurcers IS an original Disney attraction that Walt himself was involved with. What Imagineering is proposing is a modern version of it. Maybe if you see the art renderings, you'd see my point that it could be a fun attraction... Let me find the link... one second...

Okay, found it...

So, I was off about the center part -- its been a long time since I saw that rendering! But it still looks cool.

Now, about replacing Carousell. I hate to say this, but it's out of date already. I love it, it's a great show, but as times change, they wil have to keep adding new acts that simply will not fit. Also, it does not fit in with the new sci-fi theme of Tomorrowland.

My idea for a replacement would still be a multi-act AA "play" inside the Carousel theater about a journey through space and the theater would be a space ship. The premise would be that our pilots, a group of goofy aliens, are delighted to show us, Earthlings, planets and places in their solar system, but the goofball cutish and hilliarious aliens accidentally take us to places we weren't supposed to see... all hell breaks loose, there's a comedy of errors, and somehow their own clumsiness saves the day towards the end.

Ok... first off. AE definately was a superb ride. Scary, exciting, fun, and everything in between. But it had it's flaws, one being to scary for little children. I remember riding this when i was little and i was TERRIFIED! and i just finally rode it recently, and loved it. But now, i think the stitch transformation is a smart move. I now people from 2 to 52 that love stitch. So i think this new attraction will target everyone, we just need to give Disney a chance before we start wining and complaining about AE leaving.

Now about the ride, does anyone remember the first 5 minutes or so of the movie? You know, where that one alien is showing off his latest experiment, experiment 626 (Stitch). I think that is what the ride will be based on, he escapes from his tube (like the movie) and reaks(sp?) havoc all over the spaceship, and maybe they'll include him flying off in his little spaceship to earth or something, then his presentation ends which brings the end of the show. I personally, cannot WAIT for this attraction, i think it will be out of this world!:sohappy:

Woops! I forgot something....

I would never want to see CoP go. I absolutely love the ride. It is a disney classic, just liike IASW. Sure, it is a little outdated, but they can fix that, just add a few more effects or things to the scenes, remaster the song, install new seating and lighting, and ta-da! I really hope it isnt replaced by some bumper car attraction, i think that would be a really stupid move.

and the Timekeeper. AH! I HATE THIS RIDE! i hope this one leaves and not CoP. They can put the UFO ride in here, i think it would fit more in that building to, because or the circle vision room already in there. Or amybe replace it with another attraction, maybe something like Treasure Planet? i dont know, my mind is running off again.:hammer:

Haha...I just remembered something.

There was a rumor that Disney wanted to bring back Flying Saucers for Disneyland's 50th Birthday.

OK. Original ride.

But it's kinda funny, you know? Having this quick small little ride (that nowadays can be ridden anywhere else) replace the ONLY attraction Walt Disney told his Imagineers to keep.

Carousel of Progress has no reason to go away. If you think it's outdated, propose it to be updated.

Actually, it's still not outdated. Not only has a lot of that technology presented in the final scene not come out yet - but the CoP was intended to have the final scene be a portrayal of the wonders of today.

Of course, it's set in Tomorrowland...so Horizons took its position and went straight through the future.

But no. If you think CoP doesn't have crowds, don't think it should be closed. Propose advertisment. After all, it's well hidden and practically unknown to most guests today.

But it's well loved. It's classic. It's Walt's last main mark.

It's a true Disney attraction. And that term is pretty rare.

Yes but Walt said that he wanted the CoP to last as long as his parks last.
