Adventures by Disney

Disclaimer: I couldn't find where to put this, so here it is!

I'm wondering if anyone has done a tour with Adventures by Disney. My husband and I are thinking about doing one in a couple years, maybe to NYC. We've never been and we're terrified of huge cities, but we've always wanted to go. It's $2599 per person for 4 days, 3 nights, staying at the Manhattan Club. Here's the website! Anyone?

I want to but it's so pricey!

My girlfriend is obsessed with going to Norway for the whole Frozen thing.

I did a wilderness trek for almost a month in Alaska. Wasn't anything like what Disney was offering (it's literally like surviving and camping for 27 days). Let us know when you guys go. I wanna know if it's worth it for $2-$3K

Especially for the international tours, I'm not so sure I'd spend what Disney asks. I'd read their itineraries then do my research with other tour companies to build my own, custom to me, tour. I want to visit Ireland but I think I'd rather go on my own terms and find good B&Bs so I can get a better, more authentic visit.

Also to consider is on the tours not all meals are included and you are expected to tip your guides at the end. That doesn't seem like a big deal but just 10% on an $8k tour (for 2 adults) is $800. If you go a full 18% that number becomes $1440. Plus your airfare and meals not included. This is why I've not done an ABD tour. I can do 2 or 3 nice trips in a year elsewhere for that kinda $$.

$8K for two adults and that doesn't include airfare?!

Are you sure? Usually they have things all set up as a package. All your daily attractions and activities are paid unless you go outside that realm or do extra.

You'd be looking at around $11,000-$12,000 not including anything you buy to bring home.

Slap the word Disney on it I guess. :P Just kidding.

But they're giving you an itinerary and sorts to follow and tour guides so, I guess it in a sense partially justifies in a very loose sense.

But if I had the money I would consider it possibly.

I'm sure. Actually, just looked at the Austria Czech Republic 8-night I'd most like to take. Sept 2015 pricing is $5,000 - $5,700 per person & does not include air flying into Prague & out of Vienna. Includes 8 breakfasts, 3 lunches, & 6 dinners. Does not include gratuity. Granted, it does include tour admissions & activity expenses. I would expect airfare to run no less than $1k per person (if we could find it that cheap). Travel via motor coach, boat, or plane during the tour duration is included but not getting there initially and returning to your home city/airport. I'd estimate this particular vacation IF I was to do it at $18k-$19k. Um, no thanks. I could prob'ly do a month touring for that kind of moolah. LOL!

In contrast, my family of 4 is doing a 14 night Panama Canal cruise with Disney next spring. Including flights, excursions, etc. we might break $10k. This is for 4 adults vs. 2 with ABD and is for 14 nights vs. 8.

Yeah, sounds about right. Say $5.5K a person, about $1.3K (and that's cheap for a flight round trip two stops and international travel) a person. I'd be shocked if you didn't hit the $18-19K range. Because you know you'll stray from the itinerary, gratuities for dinner, hotels, other services. Anything you buy plus if you pack luggage heavy on the way home you'll get nailed with fees. Crazy.

Exactly. I think if you don't have the time or where-with-all to do the research and planning and have that kind of money then by all means that's the thing to do. But, it's not hard to find resources via the internet nowadays. Study the itineraries. Compare them with itineraries of similar tours with other tour companies. It's not hard to follow the same routes as the tour companies. I started the process after seeing a very inexpensive tour in Ireland advertised on Groupon. As I read I was curious which led me to other sites. There are companies that have self-guided tours that you customize but they sell as packaged things that include accommodations & transport such as a rental car. I can follow instructions. An itinerary wouldn't be that hard to follow along. For me, it would be more of an adventure and far more fulfilling to follow my own itinerary that I created. I'm not afraid to do it. Its a part of the journey. Right?

I have been looking into Adventures by Disney with @Kingdom Konsultant for Italy but it seems they cover EVERYTHING.

Basically. Honestly if I was traveling out of country, I'd be doing a lot of hiking and sight seeing of the areas that I'm traveling (like I did in Alaska although it's not out of country.)

Hey the adventure is the journey (or something cliche like that), right?

I'd rather spend half the money, get lost and have the time of my life than spend $20K and come back with an experience that could end up bland. Not to say it will but.

Keep in mind though that the Panama Canal cruises are the repositioning cruises and are usually not expensive, plus you have domestic flights so you really cannot compare that to an International ABD tour. Adventures by Disney tours are Luxury guided tours so you cannot compare them with other run of the mill tour companies. You have to look at the high end tour companies and you will see that their pricing is very similar. Also the ABD tours have little things that they do that put them above the others such as the private after hours tours of the Vatican museum and the Sistine chapel with the Italy tour that I was on. That alone was well worth the price as well as being "fast passed" to the front of the line with many local attractions while the other tour companies watch you walk by. There is no comparison when it comes to those little extras.
