Adventureland... Where to go from here?

Hello everyone! I'm not all that new here, but I don't have too many posts. I frequent the forums reading interesting ideas and updates, but I'd like to start a thread of my own.

I know there are threads scattered all over the place about park attraction/improvement ideas, but I think it would be best to organize all into this thread. Each week I'll start a new thread for ideas about each of the lands throughout WDW to keep this organized. I think Adventureland is the best place to start, as I feel right now it is int he most need of some help.

I'm interested to know ANY realistic suggestions you have for the land. How can management improve on the theming, existing attractions, new attractions? Anything within the land. Describe your JUSTIFICATION for the changes and any explanation that is necessary.

For me, I think Adventureland needs a nice, sit-down restaurant, Tiki Room style. I'd like to see what was original supposed to happen, a Tiki Room restaurant to replace UNM. It would feature some new AAs with all the technological spirit of the original. Maybe some free-flying birds? I'd like music to play and a dimly-lit setting. And it would sit right where the current Tiki Room lies. Just one of many suggestions.

What do you all think?

No way do you tear out the TIki Room for anything...but...we could free up some space by ripping out that worthless Aladdin ride....:lookaroun

It's a cute idea, but maybe it could just sit alongside the Tiki room because even though it's not the original show anymore, you just can't get rid of the Tiki Room.
Also, by free-flying birds, do you mean real birds? Cause I would not want birds flying above me in a restaurant... I get enough bird poo on my car, I don't want it in my dinner. :hurl:

What I mean would be to convert the current tiki room into a restaurant, as Walt originally envisioned. It would feature tables and do a more traditional Tiki Room show at certain points in the dinner. I wouldn't consider it ripping out the Tiki Room, just making better use of the space. In my opinion, anything is better than UNM.

Hahahaha. By free-flying birds, I didn't mean real. I meant new animatronics with the ability to fly across the ceiling of the room. Either by special attachments or some kind of simulated flight technology. When the Tiki Room first opened, the idea of lifelike birds which were robots was completely revolutionary to guests. Now it just seems tired and the birds are hardly as mesmerizing. I think some new technology, and placing the show in a restaurant setting, we revitalize the life in the attraction.

What other thoughts are out there? Am I the only one who thinks Adventureland needs some MAJOR work?

Haha, okay that I can handle =) This seems like a good idea, and Adventureland definitely needs work. Have we heard anything about the supposed Pirates restaurant recently?
Actually, having just returned from Disneyland... the Blue Bayou inside Pirates is possibly the most amazing thing I have ever seen in any of the parks.

It's definitely one of my favorite Disney restaurants. Monte Cristo sandwich...:slurp:

I haven't experienced the Blue Bayou yet, but it doesn't seem like it would fit into the Adventureland at MK, since Pirates isn't themed in a New Orleans area. I liked the idea of a pirates restaurant, but I think I'd prefer the Tiki Room idea. I'm just a bit pirated out to be honest. I'd like Adventureland to break free from pirates and take on a more tropical feeling by enhancing and improving on the Aladdin/Tiki Room/Treehouse area. I'd like pirates to be contained as more of a transition to Frontierland, since it hardly fits in with the tropical adventures in the rest of Adventureland.

What a good idea for a thread!
Anyway my favorite part of Adventure Land is how it has different vignettes that blend so well together: the jungle colony when you first enter, to Agrabah, to Polynesia, to Pirates. Would love for them to open an open air resturant right by the hub. I can't think of a more relaxing place to sit and take in the veiws of the park. Except for me, a pirate theme in that resturant would upset the balance of Adventure Land. (How can you have Pirates at both ends and not make it Pirate Land). Also would love to see updates to Jungle Cruise. Not just the rumored additions like barracuda but replace existing scenes with new ones. ...Just my 2 cents:)

I like the idea of a sit-down restaurant on that side of Adventureland. What did you have in mind? I agree, no pirates on this side of Adventureland, though.

What kinds of scenes? I would personally love to see some more monkeys swinging from the trees. I think there is potential for some really advanced AAs for primates or other creatures, and feel they'd be a positive addition. Also, I think a new script would be interesting and refreshing. Or maybe some different options and more freedom on the existing script?

No, but not like this. How about get rid of the traffic bottleneck that is the un-themed Aladdin, give the JC it`s much-needed and delayed overhaul, give us a decent D or E ride in the SW expansion area (no off the shelf coasters) and if you really want to go to town, give PotC a second show building and have a 2nd lift take the boats out of the old buliding and into a new one - with 2nd drop - to try and better the DLP version, let alone the DLC original.

Then offer dining options on a par with 20 years ago and we`d be getting there.

I'm also pretty sick of the whole Pirates thing. I love the original Pirates of the Caribbean (at Disneyland, mind you), but converting everything to match the movie doesn't thrill me in the least.
Overall, I'm okay with Adventureland as it is now. I like the Treehouse (not everything needs to be an E-Ticket, and I don't want to see a pirate ship slapped in here instead), love the Jungle Cruise, don't mind Aladdin's Magic Carpets (it fits right in the middle of the path. What else could you put there?), and enjoy the general look of the land. My biggest beef right now is Under New Management, which is painful, to say the least. To see such a great attraction turned into such a shrill, pointless mess is the greatest travesty The Magic Kingdom has ever suffered, next to the Timekeeper's death (and the 20000 Leagues area...forgot about that). Either reinstate the original Tiki Room or give it a new, more dignified show (ie. no Iago or Zazu). A restaurant idea is okay, but I don't want to have to be forced to eat something just to see the show. There was a show at Disneyland called Aladdin's Oasis (now a storytelling show) that I was never able to see because the meal cost too much. I wouldn't want to have that happen here. Now, if it were something like Sonny Eclipse, where you can go into the restaurant, find and empty seat, and watch for as long as you like, then I'm okay with that. If Disney can make their buck and I can enjoy my show, then all would be well with the world (especially if they served Monte Christo Sandwiches!).
As for Pirates of the Caribbean, I'd love to see that puppy go down for a year or so and be remodelled similar to Disneyland's (but without the dumb movie changes)...that, though, is a pipe dream that will never happen.

Agreed, 100%

I'm sorry, what is the SW expansion area?

don't mind Aladdin's Magic Carpets (it fits right in the middle of the path.
My biggest problem with the carpets is that Aladdin was a FANTASTIC movie with tons of possibilities in Adventureland. I would like to see an actual, immersive ride on the level of IJA in Disneyland themed to the Aladdin experience. Not a rehashing of the story, but a completely new dark ride/thrill ride combo with a new storyline. But where?

You raise an interesting point. A sit-down restaurant could limit the amount of people who are able to actually see the show. I wouldn't mind something similar to Sonny Eclipse, but the problem is that the show over there is HUGE. The Tiki Room takes up a much smaller space and would be on a significantly smaller scale. I'm not sure how to solve this problem...

First of all, the Tiki Room is not large enough for a restaurant. Secondly, There is/was a restaurant in that area called The Adventureland Veranda. I would say that they YANK OUT Iago and Zazu from the Tiki Room and replace the original show and stick the "New Management Team" into the restaurant. Nothing would keep the table turnover faster than those annoying birds!

I agree - as much as I LOVE the pirates theme going on, it doesn't need to go any further.
This is what needs to happen, imo:
*Take out Agrablah - 3-4 different themes in one land is WAY too many! Adventureland is the only land in MK with that many themes.
*Reopen ALL of the shop areas - I miss the old shopping area in Adventureland
*Update the older AA in Tiki Room - maybe take out UNM, but something needs to be updated to keep drawing people to it
*Re-open the Veranda, spruce it up, and make it a nice table-service restuarant
*Keep The Parrot and The Pirate open more often (I understand that it may cost more than it's worth to keep it open year-round, but seeing as it gives MK more variety in the food dept., they need to open it up more often)
*Give JC its much needed major refurb!
