Adult ordering Kids Meal

I apologize up front if this has been discussed elsewhere. I did a search and only could find threads pertaining to the meal plan.

If an adult wanted to order the kids meal would they allow that? I know some places are sticklers about the whole "Under 12" policy. So I just wanted to check if anyone has encountered this at WDW.

Thanx!

At CS, definitely not a problem. TS, some CMs may give you a tougher time. If they do accommodate you, you may want to tip as if you ordered an adult sized meal.

Im not trying to get around paying for food. My family owns a restaurant, so I get it. But sometimes midday I dont want that much food. And it would be wasteful to order stuff knowing full well that I wont eat it and it will just get thrown away.

I don't think either @dreamfinder or myself thought you were trying to get away with anything. I agree completely about not wanting a lot of food. I have ordered kids meals at the counter service restaurants many times, and I have been with other adults who wanted to order off kids menus in table service locations and had the hit or miss experiences I mentioned above. :)

Never thought you were. Some people just forget that ordering just apps for dinner ties the table up for just as long as if they ordered just an entree.

Last time I took my mom to WDW in 2014, we ate in several TS restaurants and she was able to order from the kid's menu--she's a very tiny 80yo and doesn't eat much at one sitting, plus she doesn't like "spicy" food (and anything that gets a sprinkle of black pepper is considered "spicy"). She had a nice fish fillet at Chefs de France, a steak at Le Cellier, and grilled chicken at Captain's Grille. All were right-sized for her, and really added to our enjoyment of the trip, as she didn't have to feel frustrated by being unable to eat most of what she was served, and I wasn't frustrated by the enormous waste of food and money. ;)

I've heard that they've become more strict about it, only allowing under 12s to order from the Kid's menu, and if that's the case, I'll be very sad, because mom wants to make at least one more trip to WDW, and we'd be limited to QS.

Another option TS is to order an appetizer for your meal. So many times I've gazed longingly at a menu wishing I had room in my tummy for an app and entree! In fact, I have a few restaurants in my list that I plan on going to without a dining plan because I think the apps looks so fantastic. (Like, pretty much all the apps at The Wave)

As other posters have said, it's really hit or miss! I was just there at the end of July/beginning of August and ordered a kid's meal at a few restaurants with no issue - the waitress at Mama Melrose's actually came up to our table of 3 adults and asked if we would like any kid's menus to which we said YES! lol. One thing to note here, we were given a child's meal at the child's price, but a beverage was not included as it would have been if we were children. Our server told us we would have had to pay separately for an adult size soda, but we had water anyways. Never heard of that one before!

The only restaurant the server told us no at was Be Our Guest, so I just ended up ordering soup & salad for myself as I wasn't all that hungry! Good Luck!

I've never ordered off the kid's meal (as an adult) at a table service restaurant so I can't help, but I have ordered off it at quick service places. I was surprised at how much food I actually got with the kids meal, it was the entree and a cookie (or fruit) and a drink. It was perfect.

We have several adults in our travel party that order from the kids menu and here is what we have found.

Counter service: No problem at all.

Disney owned table service restaurants: One of two things happen. They will either give you the kids meal or they will give you an adult portion of the kids meal and tack on a few bucks to the price.

Non-Disney owned table service restaurants: This is where it can get dicey. Some will follow Disney's policy and others will not. At La Hacienda, they would not even entertain the idea of an adult ordering a kids meal even with a sur-charge.

Those cellophane-packed chocolate chip cookies are gross! At least with the grapes, there's a decent chance that they'll be tasty.

I had a decent cookie, and normally I hate prepackaged cookies. My mom never bought prepackaged cookie, she always made them homemade, so the prepackaged normally tastes bad to me. A few times, I have had some bitter tasting grapes, I'd rather get the cookie. Different tastes I guess. :)
