Why do we need ads about love and ______ on the main page of WDWmagic. My daughter uses this page alot and I see no need for a ad about ______. When I click on the ad to see what it was about and I was very upset that a 11 year old could find something like this on a web page about Disney.:(

Most likely a Google AdSense provided ad, meaning WDWMagic has little say over what shows up. I [believe] there's a way for them to filter out certain results once they become problematic, though.

I'm sure Steve will address the issue ASAP.

Paid subscribers do not see the ads, so until someone points them out to us, we have no way of knowing about them.

It's another reason to pay to support the site, I guess. If we get enough paying members, we might be able to eliminate the ads for eveyone. Right now it's just a perk for those who donate.

And I might also remind you that this is NOT a children's website, so even though we tend to keep things PG-13, we will never be rated G.

Perhaps - but until that is done what image of the site does it portray to the first time visitor ??

Sorry, Mom. I'm seeing it also. So we've got two problems. 1) Ads that we all agree we would rather not see on a WDW site, and 2) apparently, a bunch of paid subscribers seeing ads that we aren't supposed to have to see!!! :)

I have always seen the ads on the front page, even when I wasn't a paid member. They were always for Kingdom Konsultant, Quicksilver and the like. I've never seen an ad like this one before though. Are there ads on other pages because i do not see them anywhere else.

EDIT: I just went back and clicked on the ad... yeah, thats not a site I would visit.

Unfortunately that ad was powered by Google Ads. With google Ads, the host website (in this case WDWMAGIC) does not have any direct control of what is displayed. It is in Google's hands to only display ads that are appropriate for the host site, and they usually do a very good job of filtering out any problem ads. I do have the capability to opt out of certain ads, but I can only do this once they have been displayed. I have now blacklisted that ad, and it will be removed from Google's rotations once in a few hours.

To answer the other question, Premium Members (those who support the site by paying a monthly fee), do not see any ads on the forum. They do however, see ads on the main site.

Hope that explains how things work, and if you have any questions on this, just let me know in this thread.

Thanks.

Darn. You showed up AFTER I let the world know that I rarely check out the main site, so didn't know about the google ads. I just knew that the Premium Members didn't see them any on the forum. I knew about the other ads, such as KK, Quicksilver, etc.

I'm sooo embarrassed. :o

As I said, I don't always check the front page unless I'm looking for something so you are not alone.

And to all other folks out there...understand that those that help run this site are responsive, so if some problem pops up (no pun intended) either with advertizing or participants, let them know right away. :)

Well explained. Thanks!

Register on WDWMAGIC. This sidebar will go away, and you'll see fewer ads.
