Adding Dining Without booking a package

WDW's cancellation policy for a package is much more restrictive than booking a "room only". Cancellation penalties for a vacation package start kicking in 44 days before arrival, while the cancellation penalties for a "room only" start 5 days before arrival.

Is there any way to add the "Dining" option to a "room only" package? For example, can I add dining after I arrive?

I know as an Annual Passholder I booked AP discounted rates for May and I can add the dining without adding the tickets, but I'm not sure if this would turn it into the package cancellation policies or not.
Otherwise I think the only way to add dining is through a package. But I may not be correct. I'm sure someone from the sponsors-Kingdom Konsultants will know.

Adding dining automatically makes it into a "package," subject to the package cancellation rules.

The dining plan must be added 48 hours prior to check-in. Unfortunately you can't decide upon arrival you want it and pay at check in.

What you can do is call to add dining three days prior to arrival. Your reservation becomes a package and you have to pay the full cost when you make the change instead of on check-in, but the package cancellation policy only applies for those three days instead of 44.

It's my understanding you have to book an AP rate for the room-only to be able to add the dining plan. Like you can't book a Florida resident room-only or a pin code room-only and be able to add. If that's not right I'd be interested to know. As expensive as table service is anymore its crazy trying to feed 2 teen boys out of pocket even with TiW.

That is correct. I had a client booked with a PIN code and I could not add AP dining without the room being at an AP discounted rate (one was not available) or the AP annual offer, which is rack rate.

Seemed like that was our same spot last September. 40% off pin code but couldn't add dining. Thanks, Richard!

Not sure if this helps, but last March I took advantage of a 35% off room only discount. I wasn't sure if I wanted the dining plan, so I waited. I think I was about 20 or so days from our check in date when I decided to add dining. I was on the phone for a while, but they rebooked everything as a package and were still able to tack on my room discount.
