Adam the Woo

Lol wow and I thought I was cynical! I’d assume a subscriber of Adam that appreciates Adam’s father’s or YT friends content is already following them and this event won’t make a difference either way. I’m going to go with this event is happening because they were taken back by the outpouring of support, love and grief they received from all of the fans.
Please don't forget that Adam died intestate. As a result, Adam did not leave his passwords to his phone, or his computer, or his YouTube channels. As a direct result of his death, his YouTube channel became extremely popular with his last video amassing over 663,000 views and counting. Adam did not pre-plan and set up an Inactive Account Manager for his YouTube channels. Therefore, Google will not provide passwords or login details to his family. His YouTube channel will eventually be closed. His heirs will, of course, get the money from his bank account after probate.

However, there is great value in his subscriber base and his friends, family and grifters know that value. A brief perusal of the Social Blade will elucidate anyone. It's been very entertaining during the past month observing how various social media "influencers" have worked overtime to cash in on their relationship with Adam. It's been a real beehive of activity watching the social media types festoon their rear view mirrors with Big the Foot air fresheners and chug bottles of water and then scrunch up the bottle.

I can't blame them. There is a lot of money to be made posting these videos and they know it. I recall that Liberace was often harshly mocked by his critics and he retorted that he, "cried all the way to the bank". I don't see anything wrong in other social media people wanting to pick up new subscribers while a grand cause is evoked. But I think we just need to be honest and forthright that part of the motive is profit.

This is a pretty harsh accusation to make and I honestly find it disrespectful. We can always question human motives and indeed some may not be genuine, but Adam’s “family” included many fellow vloggers whom he only knew because of YouTube.

Each has dealt with his passing in their own ways. I’ve watched many of the videos and they’re absolutely heartbreaking. Adam was as authentic as they come and that comes through in the stories his friends have told.

Suggesting they’re simply out for subscribers is sad and wrong in my opinion, and that’s only a trivial number anyway as views are where the money is made. They will certainly see a short term spike there but that won’t be sustainable unless the viewer actually enjoys their regular content.

Adam’s dad had started vlogging many years ago with his son’s urging and help. Relaunching that channel has everything to do with remembering Adam and zero to do with money as far as I’m concerned.

As viewers we might feel like we know these online personalities but let’s not forget that we only see and know what they choose to share. I understand there will always be opinions and the truth might indeed fall somewhere in between, but could we please refrain from making baseless allegations that are hurtful to the deceased and their family?
