Has anyone ever been alone, wandering around one of the WDW Hotels, and then been approached by security claiming they have proof that you have been handing out pizza flyers ??

Today after i visted AK, DHS, Epcot, i wanted to explore the boardwalk and dolphin, so i parked at boardwalk , and proceded to walk to the dolphin, i walk in and just admire the Fanciness of it. Since the dolphin was one of the taller hotels, i wanted to try and get up as high as i could, and still get a view outside without going into a guest room (which i accomplished), then i started leaving around 7pm, and as i was walking out of the lobby, down to floor 1, i got approached by a security person and person who seemed to probably own the hotel. They started asking me if i was handing out flyers, i said no. He took pictures of my driver license, then went to the lobby to "talk to my people", who i was not apart of. So i started trying to start a convo with the security person, and he kept giving me that "i know you did it a____________ look", and just kept being a (insert word) to me, then they took me to the people who were caught handing them out, they said "Thats not him", so they asked me a couple questions i cant remember, but i said "I visted Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Epcot, showed them my AP pass, and said you can run it thru any system you want to prove i was at those parks. In the end, They finally realized i had no part in it what so ever, and was released..

They kept saying they had video evidence i was with them, I don't think they looked at it closely cuz they asked for a red bag "that i obvisouly didnt have", and said i was with people, when i was clearly alone the entire time.

They security people said "We don't like vistors going to guest areas", and i said " I didn't know, they don't have it posted anywhere", so hopefully, they'll post that information somewhere, so someone doesn't have to go thru what i did..

Im totally aganist the Pizza Flyer Scam, and if i had caught these people, i would have confronted them. But it irks me how mean they kept being to someone innocent. Funny thing is, I don't even look like someone who would do that.

Im not saying Disney did a bad job, cuz i respect their safety and everything, but in the end, all i got was an apology (which imo, was enough).

If anyone on here is a security person for disney, how about next time, REVIEW THE TAPE'S AND EVERYTHING BEFORE YOU GO TO CONFRONT SOMEONE SO YOU DON'T WASTE 30MINUTES OF SOMEONES DAY FOR SOMETHING THEY DIDNT EVEN DO.......

-Other than that, Parks where a little busier today.

(This all happened around 7:20pm, so if you saw someone with disney security at the Dolphin with a Nike Football Shirt, You know who i am now, and this whole thing is just bothering me, even though nothing is going to happen to me cuz of it)

Sorry for your ordeal, but just as an FYI those resorts are not owned or operated by Disney. All the employees you dealt with were not Disney cast members. If they were really giving you a hard time, then you should write a letter to the General Manager of the property and let them know. Since you weren't handing out any flyers, then clearly they didn't have any proof of you doing so.

I honestly, didnt know that the people who worked at the Dolphin/swan werent Disney Cast members..

Im just letting it go, but it gives me a motive to not want to ever vist swan/dolphin again, but i will eventually.

I sure as heck would have not volunteered my driver's license for them to take pictures of. That whole ordeal sounds fishy to me. While I realize that the pizza flyer thing is a problem around the hotels, that probably should have been handled by the actual police and not the rent a cop.

Since you were still on Disney Property, you should write a letter to Guest Communications expressing your displeasure with how you were treated.

Im only 16 (turn 17 in November), so im still learning the real world, If you were my age in that predictament, and didnt wanna go to jail for something you didnt do, you probably would of done the same thing.

I'm just gunna act like this never happened, but if it ever happens again (i vist Contemporary more than anyother resort), Im going to demand them show me "evidence" of it happening. (which i feel i should of done this time)

Don't get mad, get even. Get a lawyer, sue them for illegal restraint. Security are not police officers, they have very limited rights. They can not 'detain' and 'release' somebody for investigative purposes.

'Young tourist wanders astray on Disney property gets brutally detained. Children in Walt Disney World locked up and questioned as if this were Syria'.

Who knows, they may be tempted to settle this out of court for something more generous than an apology.

Something similar happened to me when I was your age. Sometimes youth are accused because they are easy victims of profiling. Me and two friends were detained at a shopping mall by rent-a-cops because we "looked" guilty of something! We weren't... and when we were late meeting our parents...well that's a whole different story....suffice it to say that those cops were looking for new jobs!

You really should stand up for yourself as far as this is concerned.

I agree with Empress Lilly. I would have a lawyer send a letter to them. She is right. They cannot do anything with or regarding the law. They are not real cops. As I would see this, a lesson learned about the driver license. Never trust anyone, never. Always be suspicious about people asking to see identification if you have not done anything wrong. They are too many people out there these days wanting to steal innocent people's identities.

So what you are saying is if Disney Security detains me somewhere (just say at Main Street Train Station), i can legally sue them ?? (I know police officers obvisouly are aloud to)

And that is one of this countries biggest problems.... Everyone wants to sue for something!!! Or shall I say "wants something for nothing." Gosh...

I didn't want anything other than never having to go thru that..

An apology was enough this time...

One can sue anybody for anything (and do!)....now whether one wins is a totally different story.

But other's should not have to go through the same ordeal either.

I hope no-one on here (or anyother vistor) have to go thru this ordeal.

Sadly, people do.

More that i think about Pizza Flyer Scams happening at Hotels, I wouldn't be suprised if they go up to people's doors, and leave them there (Non-Hotel), Because i have come home and seen flyers.

They asked me if i heard of the pizza places that i guess where on the flyers (If i could remember them, I'd put it on here so if anyone staying at a WDW Hotel would know). The ONLY pizza places ive ever heard of in Orlando are Pizza Hut, Papa Johns, and CiCi's Pizza.

Im getting off since i have to be awake at 6am (10:13pm currently), Hope everyone on WDWMagic has a great Night (or Day)

Nope. Sorry. I can't say that I would have. They would have had to call the police on me because I would never have given them my ID. Ever. I would have walked off from them and loved to have seen them try to stop me from leaving. I would have sued them for false detainment or if you want to get downright technical, kidnapping. Even at 16 years old I would have known what they did was wrong. They saw a young individual and thought that they could push you around and flex their muscle. Unless it is a police officer or if you truly have done something wrong, don't ever stop and give up any information like that.

This "Pizza Scam" - what is it about it that makes it a scam, besides that the hotels don't want people distributing literature? I mean, they are actual pizza shops, right?

I was first exposed to this after my first (and last...) stay at the Hilton at DTD (what a dump...after the wonderful Grand Cypress the previous few days it was quite the cluster shake down). They have notices in the room saying to ignore the flyers, and sure enough even though I only stayed one night I got one.

What bothered me about it was that it demonstrated the crappy security there. People are going up and down the halls, stopping at each and every door and sliding one under. And it happens so often, they have to have printed notices in the rooms to ignore them.

In this case, it sounds like security was simply incompetent - but this is a definite security issue nonetheless in the broader sense, that a hotel regularly has trespassers. To be honest, the folks at the Hilton probably just didn't want you to get a deal on pizza so you can instead buy a $15 sandwich and a $6 bottle of water in the hotel store...

The Swan and Dolphin are owned by Tishman Hotel Holdings which has the land under a lease from Disney. So really you aren't on Disney property when at those hotels. Currently it is under the control of Tishman. This incident has nothing to do with Disney. Any communications should go to Tishman.
