Accident on Pirates

ummmmm so if you raise your hands in the air *even if you angle them in towards your head* the highest parts aren't going to be your pinky and index finger...at best they'd be about even with the middle. Just a thought. (still plausible what they're saying is true but...)

It does seem strange.. There have to be thousands of people that do the same thing every day.

Yes it does. The only thing I can think of is that they had their hands up, a hat or something came loose and they went to grab it as it went over the side and they then got their fingers caught between the boat and the side.

Isn't the ride covered with cctv along the complete route or at least the danger points like the drop so Disney will probably have what happen on camera?

Yes, from my observations there are cameras on everything at easy major point

Fascinating! I never knew the WDW Pirates once had a double loading area. I've never picked up that anything was wonky or altered in any way in the loading dock area when I ride the WDW Pirates, but now I want to look more closely.

That double station leading to a single flume setup sounds exactly like the It's A Small World loading area at Disneyland, and it would make sense they would attempt the same setup at WDW as it was built just seven or eight years after Small World opened at Disneyland in 1966.

I wonder why they abandoned the double loading docks so quickly at WDW, but stuck with it for almost 50 years now at Disneyland? Glad to hear Pirates came back up at WDW quickly after the accident today. If it's obviously an issue of a visitor not behaving correctly, it's nice to know Disney can acknowledge that and reopen the ride instead of doing days of "investigation" and red tape.

They didn't stop using the double loading at Pirates 'quickly'. It was in use until sometime in the 2000s. I'm sure someone knows the exact year, but I would say 05-06.

Blink, blink. Breathe, breathe. Day in, day out.
If Disney would actually monitor and enforce rider safety policies these accidents wouldn't happen.

Thousands and thousands of guests come in and out of these parks... I'm surprised these accidents don't happen as often as they do.

Well, as previously stated, keep your hands in the boat! Save your fingers and let everyone else enjoy the ride. Can you imagine being on POTC and seeing someone get their finger tips chopped off!?!
