So i have been accepted into the WDW College Program as an attractions employee. I am just wondering what other people's experience with the WDWCP has been like ? Should i do it ? Do i actually make money ? Whats it like as an attractions cast member ?

Any Input would be great !

Thanks.

Congrats!!
I'm applying for spring semester next year :) When did you put in your application (IE: how long did it take to find out?) ? I need to find someone to take over my spot in my co-op if I get in.

What were your choices for your job? Did you want attractions? Also, how was the interview? Can you give me an idea of how that goes?

Sorry for all the questions, haha. I'm just worried about getting in/getting the job I want, etc. for next year.

But either way, congrats!!! :sohappy::sohappy::sohappy:

Congratulations on being accepted as a CP! I never did the actual CP myself, though I have several friends who did. It's a very neat experience that a lot of people love. That being said, don't expect to make a ton of money. You'll make enough to live off of, but you probably won't have a lot of "surplus" at the end. With the huge variety of attractions, there really isn't any one particular attractions "experience." Your own personal experience will depend on where you get assigned. However, keep in mind that who you work with often has a greater impact on your experience than the location itself (I had some really great times working with people in the oh-so-glamorous world of Stroller Rentals).

I applied in like....early september i think, once you apply, you have a telephone interview with a Representative. The representative just asks you questions about yourself, your work experience, why you want to work at WDW, and what roles you would be interested in doing. I requested a job in either Transportation (monorail pilot was my first choice, but its a veryh coveted and highly competitive job), Recreation, or Attractions. They choose your role based on your work experience, your interests, and what they need people to do etc. But after you have your interview and either fax/mail a hard copy of your allication to do disney, they should respond to you with 3 weeks. And i am doing it for the spring 2009 session. If you meant the spring of 2009, then you might want to go ahead and apply now......But with attractions, i can do anything from working by helping people get on rides, to memorizing speeches like in the great movie ride, or helping the flow of people in parades. Check out all the roles for yourself, any would be exciting. And if you dont know......you get free admission to all the parks, and u get like tickets to bring 5 people or something too.

I meant spring '10, so yeah, lol. I'll probably apply as early as possible for that. I'm hoping for character assistant, but also want attractions or possibly merchandise.

Thanks, though!

IA returned in April after being an attractions ICP (the international version of the CP!!!) i ending up working Fantasmic!, Disney's Stars in Motor cars parade, High School Musical and even worked a couple of times at Rock and Rollar coaster and Beauty and the Beast. I was also one of the lucky few Cp's and ICP's who in the opening team for block party bash (by default of course. lol)

I would definetly recomend the experience, you meet so many lifelong friends and can make many contacts, and if you lucky like me even find the love of your life. It is also great to have on you resume, i got a job very quickly once i got home. However, don't expect to make much money, after six months working for the mouse I only managed to save about $400, and if you want to take time off to spend when family come down or to travel you have to take it unpaid, however the perks more than make up for it you get free admission to the four theme parks and jellyrolls, a decent merch and table service discount, and really good rates on hotel rooms and if you are lucky enough to be there over christmas the perks are even better (last year we got a ticket for each of the water parks, and disney quest for us and up to three guests, plus the merch discount doubled for approx 31/2 months.)

hope you enjoy your program and we may even meet as i will hopefully be back with the world in the new year!

1st of congrats on getting into the CP. It will be the best time of your life.

I found a LOT of information from this website before I did my CP in 2003 www.wdwcpinfo.com - but I don't believe it's moderated anymore.

Congratulations on your acceptance! I did the college program back in Fall 06 and loved it. It was the best thing I've ever done in my life and I still am best friends with my old roommate (she just visited me up in CT from Disney World tonight!). But anyway, I was a Friendship Boat captain in Epcot and seriously had the greatest time of my life and made so many amazing friends. The regular fulltimers i worked with were some of the greatest humans i've ever worked amongst. I miss all my old men captains! The only important thing to remember: BUDGET YOUR MONEY. CPs get paid next to nothing, and once they take out vista/chatham rent it can be a hard life, but you'll find that you really can amuse yourself down there for free, especially with always having parks to go to or resorts to hang out at at night. I loved it so much my roommate and i stayed on through spring the following program. And she never left, she still lives a minute outside of WDW... so jealous!!!... And the ability to see fireworks every night, sometimes 2Xs a night, is the most amazing job perk in the universe... Check out Wishes from behind the castle near Disney U sometime... and trust me, it's tough to be cast back out into the real world once it's all over. Love every minute you get to be down there!

You make it sound just wonderful! It's way too late for me :ROFLOL:but maybe one of my kids will try to join this program! Congratulations to you all.

Well first of all, let me congratulate you on your acceptance. I was lucky enough to be accepted and participate in the Career Start Program (Not much different from CP). One thing I want to make sure is understood though, Were you accepted as an ATTRACTIONS CM or an OPERATIONS CM? I only ask so you don't get your hopes up if it is the latter. My story is I was accepted as an operations CM and was placed in DAK parking (I didn't have a driver's license) So THANKFULLY :sohappy: they HAD to place me in attractions since that was the only other open spot in ops. Anyway......what to expect

1. You'll pretty much be living paycheck to paycheck unless you're smart and have excess money before you head down there. Most everyone I knew unfortunately were of the former waiting eagerly for thursdays to come.:animwink: (Every CM knows what EPCOT really stands for)

2. Be sure you know where you want to live. There's no harm in requesting a complex. They're usually pretty accomodating. When I left, Vista and Chatham were the only available complexes (I heard more were being built:shrug:). Vista, a bit older and party central. Chatham, Laid back, quiet, nicer apts.

3.Expect to be around people (fellow CPs) who aren't as into Disney/WDW as you are and expect to hear plenty of bashing from the negative CMs that have "lost the magic". I had to ignore plenty of them in order to enjoy my nine months down there.

4.Expect to meet tons of amazing people (guests and CMs) that you'll remember forever and that will make your experience that much better!

I can't stress enough though just make the most of it, have a blast, and try to go to as many CP events at the complexes as possible and if you hope to maybe turn it into a career ask your managers when you meet and get to know them to help you with networking. They'll be more than happy to help. Hope I was helpful! I am jealous :cry:but good luck and have fun!:D:sohappy::wave:

Congrats!!!!

I am currently at WDW on the CareerStart program (like cp, but havent started college yet.) I work in costuming at Fantasmic & love it. I live at Chatham & it's quiet, my friends & I are the loudest people we have met that live at Chatham. I've been here for 7 weeks & decided about a month ago that I want to extend & stay till May.

If you have any questions about being down here currently, ask or pm me.

The CP is a lot of fun. It is such a great experience. I have done 4 programs, and have learned so much down there. I have done merchandise, custodial, QSFB, and character attendant twice. As long as you save wisely, you can save up money (I brought home almost $1000 last summer).
