I'm not really a pin trader, but a huge Donald Duck fan. I am trying to buy a pin lot on ebay so that I can trade for Donald pins during my upcoming trip in September. I know you are only allowed to trade Disney pins so I wanted to be sure that the ones I'm looking at are okay. The auction says:

All-metal, official Disney pin have the © Disney backstamp and is marked "Sedesmasa."

The reason I ask if these are okay is because none of my current Donald Duck pins have a Sedesmasa making on them, just the Disney. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I would stay away from these. Make sure that it says it has the Official Pin Trading logo. :) And ask seller questions if you are unsure, also check feedback.
Hope this helps.

We have been turned down once or twice trading Sedemasa pins with CM's that we bought from ebay. I don't think technically, because they have the official logo, they should have turned my kids down but I didn't want to push it.

We avoid them now. You will find lots of ebay sellers that will assure you they are not Sedemasa (I forget how to spell that).

The pin is perfectly all right.

Pins don't have to have the official pin trading logo in order to be tradable.

The reason it says "Sedesmasa" is because it was made by a company in Germany (or possibly Spain).

Some cast members might make a face when they see these pins because they don't like them, but according the official rules, they would have to trade it no matter what.

Hope that helps.

Also, (not that I condone cast members turning down guests in any way), but the pins aren't the greatest looking-- if you end up being stuck with any of them, you may not like what you have left over.

Good luck and happy trading!

Yes, technically they are tradeable. However, I'll echo what others have said: you might have some difficulty with some cast members. Once, I even had trouble trading a Disney Store pin, even after insisting that I was quite aware of the trading rules (obviously, this cast member wasn't) and the current relationship between Disney Store and the Walt Disney Company (having worked for both). I was still refused the trade. I didn't push the issue, and ended up finding the same pin that I wanted on a different lanyard.

I think the problem here is the question on whether the pin you want to trade is a "legal" Disney pin. If there's no question that it is a legal Disney pin, then the cast member can't refuse to trade with you, unless he/she already has that identical pin on his/her lanyard, or if he/she is occupied with work. The pin etiquette and rules clearly state that.

So the only thing left here is that (i) the pin isn't a legal Disney pin or (ii) the cast member isn't sure if the pin is a legal Disney pin. This issue has come up with the Disney Store pins. Even with serious pin traders, I have heard reports that they couldn't trade a Disney Store pin with one cast member, but then managed to trade it with another cast member at a different time. It would be nice if there is a clear cut info somewhere in which both guests and cast members can be made aware of one way or the other regarding such pins. As far as I know, Disney Store pins ARE legal Disney pins and should be tradeable.

Sedesma pins are technically tradeable pins but they are commonly regarded as some of the ugliest pins out there. Pin traders, while some are obsessed, usually stay away from trading these onto Cast Member lanyards as this could invoke a sort of "negative pin karma".

Few things are a pathetic as seeing Cast lanyards full of these Sedesma pins in the afternoon after they have been pillaged by the people with lots of the sedesmas.

There is nothing wrong with trading these pins, but most of us traders would like to leave something nice behind in place of the pin we took.

I have a similiar question. I got a "pin" (or so it calls itself) that came with the Peter Pan platinum DVD when it was released. I can't find a picture of it, but it lights up, and honestly looks more like a button. (It has the latch release commonly found on buttons). But it was advertised as a pin, and the back has copyright Disney on it. Any ideas if I'll be able to trade this, or should I not even bother?

It's metal, but it really doesn't look like your typical Disney trading pin. Like I said, it has the latch type back that is typically found on buttons. But then again, Disney themselves (or maybe it was Target, the pin was only offered with the DVD at Target) called it a pin! Maybe I will just try to trade it and see if I have any luck.
