A WWYD question - Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party

We're going to WDW in November 2014 for 23 days, staying offsite for the first 11 days and moving on to POFQ for another 12. Our plan is to attend both MNSSHP (on its last day, 11/1) and MVMCP.

What you guys rather do: go to MVMCP on our first week there (maybe Thu 11/13) or wait and do the party on one of our last days (either Thu 11/20 or Fri 11/21. I'm leaning towards Thursdays because Fridays tend to attract more locals).

I'm completely torn over this one! So, wwyd?

Love a little Disney every day!! ;)
I would pick Thurs 11/13 as if you choose the the later Thurs in my silly opinion it would make me sad I have to leave soon. Lol I would rather go earlier knowing I have much more time to spend in the world. Also the other date is getting closer to Thanksgiving and might be a lot more crowded. Thursdays are definitely better though. We always go on a Thursday at the beginning of our trip. :)

Stay away from Friday parties. We learned that the hard way in 2009.
Too crowded right? I don't have a choice about our MNSSHP since I can only attend the last one and even though it falls on a Saturday, which will probably be crowded, it's either that or not going at all, but with MVMCP I want to avoid as much crowds as possible so I can have a nice mix of meeting characters and doing the special events.

Good call on the latter date being crowded because of the arrival of the Thanksgiving goers. I hadn't taken that into consideration :jawdrop:

My initial thoughts about going on the last days was to have something to look forward to but I'm at Disney and every day is magical in its own way, right?

Yes that is true to do it closer to the end to have something special to look forward to and also we get you in the Christmas Spirit before you head home. :)

I'd do it early. I like to get big stuff done early so it is out of the way and if some fluke cold spell or rain pops up, I can always squeeze it in later.

Do a lot of locals hit MVMCP? I know a lot of people who go to MNSSHP, but not MVMCP. That's just people I know, though. I don't know most of the city, lol. :)

Yeah, the second party we did was on December 11th, 2009. It was very crowded.

We're visiting in Oct/Nov 2014 and are planning on doing both too! We'll do MNSSHP on 31st Oct (day after arrival - DS birthday) and the MVMCP right towards the end so that they aren't too close together. Although only having 14 days means that it will be a very early MVMCP! But what do you do when you have the chance to do both!;):happy:. I'm sure which ever date you choose you will have a truly magical time. Have been to both previously and nearly always managed the MNSSHP on 31st (very busy), and the MVMCP around 19/20th December prior to flying home to UK - got us right in the Xmas spirit.:)

I'm leaning towards the latter date so we can space out the time between parties and because it'll give us something very magical to do just before going home.

What about Sunday? Are those parties crowded?

Stay away, far away from Friday night parties. that was a major planning on flaw on my part. So I would choose Thursday 11/20. You are still a week away from Thanksgiving, its a Thursday and far enough from Christmas, and its a nice way to end your trip.

See I read that Friday parties for te xmas parties tend to b less crowded than the Thursday ones because guests usually leave on Fridays? We r going tothe nov 15 Friday party! Hope it not too crowded. That whole week is a 3 crowd so I am hoping for the best with crowds tht week. This will be our first trip in the month of November...

We did MNSSHP last year on a Sunday and it wasn't bad at all. We actually walked out of the Confectionary on Main St just as the first parade was coming through and we were able to stand on the sidewalk behind some people sitting and watch it. Our only MVMCP was on Veterans Weekend, Friday and it was sold out. It was so busy and so cold. We're going that same weekend this year, not by choice though. It's our cousins first trip and she really wants to go to the party so we're going to suck it up and deal. I'd stay away from weekend crowds for sure!

We did a Sunday party in 2010...I have no frame of reference since it's the only hard ticketed party we've done... but it felt like some things were very crowded while others had no crowd at all. i.e. fireworks, 1st parade, and character meet and greets were totally mobbed and the 2nd parade still had a fairly hefty crowd. All that being said, if you have the flexibility and can do a Thursday party- I'd go that route. I'd also be more inclined to do the 11/20 party- i.e. you're closer to Thanksgiving so you're starting to get closer to the official start of the holiday season + I think it's a fun way to end a trip...kind of like book ends. You start with MNSSHP and you end with MVMCP. This way, you can also psych yourself up for it by maybe catching Holiday Wishes from the Poly beach before your party night.

@housecusechikie it's funny you mention watching Holiday Wishes beforehand because it's exactly like we're gonna do! Instead of going to Poly though we're going to California Grill.

Thanks for all your replies everyone! You gave me valid points and I'm more than ever sure I want to avoid Fridays/weekends. Thursday it is and probably 11/20.

Are dates consistentes from one year to the next?
