A week away and the possibility of rain is scaring my party!

We are a week away and so far the weather is saying 80% chance of rain the first 2 days (all day according to the weather apps) and then 60% chance the next day. My mom now wants to cancel and reschedule for much later in the year. She doesn't want to go when it rains. She doesn't want to stand in line in the rain and go on outdoor rides and get wet. Ponchos or not. She says we can't take pictures when it's raining and that we'll be stuck in the hotel room doing nothing and it's a waste of money. There is no changing her mind.

I have tried telling her that yeah, it's an 80% chance that it'll rain for an hour or so, but then you have the rest of the day. Plus the weather can change in an instant, who knows what'll be like when we arrive. It could change the day before. She won't budge.

I am beyond crushed and heartbroken about this. I have been looking forward to this for many months, all the planning I have done to help make this trip a reality. I have been saving money like there is no tomorrow. I have been looking forward to a week off of work for a long time. Working extra hours and getting beyond burned out. I need this for mental health reasons. Just to get away from everything.

To see my nieces and nephew on their first disney trip. She doesn't even care about that now. Plus my other brother and his new wife were going to come and surprise her at Magic Kingdom. I don't want to do that to them, either. But, I also cant tell her that. It's not just about her and us anymore, there are others invested in this.

Help me!!!!! How do I get her to see reason???

If you can, go without her. Without giving us intimate knowledge of your finances it is really impossible for any good advice other than that. Cancelling anything other than a room only package will cost her the entire amount of the trip, if she can accept that then so be it. No offense but she sounds like a blast to vacation with.

The only trip we've gone on & haven't gotten any rain was in Dec. All other trips we've at least had an afternoon or two of rain. It's just the nature of the Beast. Tell your Mom to suck it up or stay home!

As an Orlando local for more than a decade now and a regular visitor for a couple of decades before that, I would caution you from overreacting to those reports. It does indeed rain in Florida, it is a tropical climate after all.

However when you see a 70% chance of rain, all that mean is that there is a 70% chance that some area of central FL will get some rain. It does not mean that it is going to rain everywhere for 70% of the day. Storms in Central Florida are often very localized and they rarely last for very long.
Exactly, I live in S. Florida and people always complain how it never rains when there is 80% chance, and always when it's 20%. It's ALWAYS raining somewhere in the area.

All the above posts are good advice, we have never had any problems with rain when it does rain its over quickly, reduces the temperature and dries up very quickly . I assume she has never been to WDW before so she may be someone who doesn't get or understand the "magic" try to get her to come with you it may turn out to be a fantastic experience for you all .

Do the resort tv's still have the Doppler radar channel we found it very useful in the past ? Anyone ?

A lot of great responses already, but rain in Florida is so different then other places. It can down pour and 5 minutes be sunny. just bring ponchos and you will be fine.

I am going to revise my advise and say just leave her at home.

Sounds like she could suck the fun out of winning the lottery.
I agree with Master Yoda. I will tell you I really actively disliked getting rained on. I will hide in a gift shop until the worst of it is over, but I have been caught in the rain before and I am sure I will be again. It has NEVER stopped me from going to Disney and it probably never will. Anyone who has that kind of " I wont have fun if everything is not 100% perfect" is not going to be someone you want to be with on a trip like this anyhow. Go with your family, meet up with your other relatives and have a wonderful time!!! Marie

It rained every single day on our trip last year, but it only rained for 10 minutes. The longest was for maybe 20 minutes. If it started to rain we just went into an indoor attraction, shop, or we took that time to go in and get a meal or a snack somewhere. It actually made for some nice little breaks.

And I do have to agree with the others. If possible just leave her at home. If she is being this ridiculous over a little rain then I am sure she is going to find a million other things to complain about once she gets there. Those people are not fun to travel with.

Ya it's not like she's taking a trip to Seattle! Lol Florida rain is nothing. It comes and goes and is so unpredictable. There are plenty of things to do inside without having to get wet! If it was for severe thunderstorms with flood warning across the state or a hurricane, of course you would cancel, but to try and cancel a trip and ruin everyone's fun over a few showers which you don't know will even happen or not is just ridiculous! You are better off traveling without her! And then when you return home, you can tell her all about the 30 minutes of rain total that you experienced on the trip and she can feel too dumb!

As a native Floridian, it's going to rain almost everyday from now til October. Like others have said, you're going to have to get used to some rain if you're coming to Disney World. While the dry season start in mid October and last typically through April in any seven day period there is going to be a day when it rains. Are you sure she doesn't have another motive here? Does she even want to go?

I hail from Texas, and the rain I've experienced in Florida is nothing compared to the thunderstorms we experience in Texas.

Every single time I've experienced rain when we visited Walt Disney World, save ONE brief storm, the rain was very light, not much more than what I would consider a drizzle. The one exception was a deluge that got us soaked from the time it took us to walk from the ferry to Via Napoli in Epcot, but I digress. The storms there, for the most part, are no big deal. I truly hope you get to go.

@SMS55 makes an excellent point. Refusing to go on a trip due to the possibility of rain seems like an excuse, where the real reason is hidden.

Just got back from the Animal Kingdom today, I'd been checking and worrying about the weather all week because most said storms and rain all day. Around 2pm it rained very very lightly and that was it. The rain was that light that even the outdoor, uncovered character meet and greets continued.

Just repeating what plenty of other people have said....

I lived in Florida for eighteen years. There is basically not any time of the year with a no-rain guarantee. In fact, if you go later (during the next 5-6 months) you will probably have a higher chance of rain and might even experience hurricane season! If it's raining it will only last a brief while and you can go inside to a gift shop or indoor queue. If you wear reasonably waterproof shoes and have a poncho, hoodie, or light rain coat you will be FINE.
