A WDW Cast Member's first trip to Disneyland

  • Well dang it, I had a whole report typed out when I went to add in my photo album and the computer froze, losing all the data I typed in.
  • Well I will put it this way. I traveled with my boyfriend, Frank, who grow up in Southern California. I had never been to Disneyland and was born and raised in Orlando. I never thought anything could beat WDW. Well Disneyland Resort does not surpass WDW Resort, however, the Disneyland park surpassed Magic Kingdom in my eyes. Wow!
  • Here's my summary of Day 1 - Friday August 12, 2005
  • In N Out burgers are the bomb!!!!!!
  • As I cried upon seeing Main Street and Walt's apartment for the first time a fellow Guest looked at me funny. Frank explained "it's her first time". The Guest replied, "oh she is gonna love this place." He was right.
  • Fantasyland was closed due to Oprah Winfrey taping a show whilst making a wish come true for an entire Elementary school.
  • We also witnessed a wedding photo op in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle.
  • My first Disneyland attraction was Autopia. However, the attraction was shut down for Oprah and her group. Of course we ended up driving behind her! And unfortunetely at the end of the ride, as Frank was driving, BAM! WE BUMPED OPRAH WINFREY!
  • I am in love with Disneyland's Fantasyland, much better than back home.
  • Alice in Wonderland's dark ride is my new favorite dark ride anywhere! I loved going into the rabbit hole and then going outside, caught my one and only glimpse of the parade.
  • Took a dinner break to go to Del Taco: Fish Tacos = yummy!
  • Took part in some vodka before heading back in, hey it's vacation!
  • Storybook canal boats are quite fun when you are super buzzed :).
  • I enjoyed Pinnoccio's Daring Journey, but I am very bothered that in the last scene of the ride Pinoc is still a wooden puppet!
  • Only popped into Toontown fo ra short bit, I was sad that the Jolly Trolley no longer runs, but it still kicks Toontown's Country Fair's butt!
  • Innoventions was hard to enjoy as my buzz was wearing off and my day of travel was getting to me.
  • We headed to Newport Beach, where Frank's sister lives.
  • At 9pm we fell asleep to the sound of a ritzy birthday party across the street. Gosh that place is beautiful.[/color]
  • Day 2 - August 13, 2005
    [*]
    • Woke up in Newport Beach
    • Ate at Denny's - I actually ate healthy :)
    • Just after park opening we arrived. I was still excited, but I was able to take in the sights a little better.
    • Our first stop was Peter Pan's Flight. WOW! It is sooooo much better than WDW's. It is so cool how you actually enter a bedroom window instead of just entering a scene. The star effect is fabulous. LOVED IT, LOVED IT, LOVED IT!
    • Next we ventured to Snow White's Scary Adventure. It was so neat how the Wicked Queen leered through the window above. I had to get a picture! I loved the gold spell book effect as you enter the queue. The show effects added more movement, and the timing of the scenes was better than WDW. I just didn't like how "They lived happily ever after" was just thrown in there.
    • The line for Mr. Toad's Wild ride was pretty short, so we popped on. I was really interested in seeing this ride since there was a big hullabalo about it closing at WDW. I never experienced it before it closed. Well to me it was neat, but not worth all the commotion that everyone was raising. Maybe it's just me.
    • Our next stop was a tour around the world: It's a Small World. I do enjoy the front of the building better, which is why we got someone in line to take our picture. I like the mermaid scene and the postcard goodbye scene, but other than that I like WDW a little better. I like how at WDW the track is wider and does not curve as much so you can look in whatever direction you wish. At DL the track has more curves that basically tell you where to look. I also like that at WDW the water extends out to the scene whereas DL since it was from the World's Fair is a track with water that is surrounded by the scenes. I hope I explained that well enough.
    • Roger Rabbit Spin was pretty fun, poor Frank had to fight the steering wheel the whole time, otherwise I would have lost it
    • Frank had a Fastpass for Space Mountain. He reported that the track felt better and the effects were much more up to date. I shopped around planning out what merchandise I would buy on our last day.
    • Now up to this point I had not even seen Frontierland, New Orleans Square, Critter Country, or Adventureland! And I was already loving DL more than MK.
    • Adventureland: Bengal Barbeque be the bomb! :)
    • Overall I like the theming of Adventureland at DL better, but I like that at MK it is much bigger and isn't like a pocket part of the park.
    • New Orleans Square is marvelous. I love New Orleans, I have been there twice. And I just loved the feeling of New Orlenas Square, and the 50th banner was beautiful.
    • DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES!: Time to see how PoTC differs. Wowzer! It is awesome! The story is actually told much better and more obvious, the effects were better. The first drop got to me a little, but no big!
    • Haunted Mansion overall ties with MK, however I liked how the building itself really looks like a mansion and isn't too scary as you approach it, much like a haunted mansion in New Orleans.
    • We ventured to Critter Country. I actually enjoy the Winnie the Pooh ride at MK better. I like that you enter the storybook. But some of the effects at DL are better.
    • Our final ride of the day was the Explorer canoes. Frank was being splashed by the little boy behind him. The ride itself was not enjoy by many of the us. Frank did not handle the situation too well.
    • We left to see if our room was ready, we got a nice big room with a king size bed.
[*]We enjoyed some adult beverages and never made it back to the park :)

Coming soon: DAY 3 complete with dinner at Club 33.

I'm sooooo happy you enjoyed your trip to DL. I have to admit that if I had to choose between MK and DL, DL wins hands down. I LOVE that park. Your pics were great too!! Can't wait to read more about your trip!! :sohappy:

Thanks for posting and for the photos. Looks like you two had a great time!

I sent my DD to Ontario, CA this summer to visit friends (she went to DL three days) and the first thing she told me about was In N Out Burgers.

She would move out there for the burgers, the beach and the San Gabriel Mtns.

When I asked about the earthquakes that occurred, she said it was no big deal. The first one that happened she thought someone was kicking the chair she was laying out in.

Day 3 - Right Here!

I had to put Day 3 here as I ran out of room up top...

Sunday August 14, 2005
  • We intended to be in the park as close to opening and as close to closing as possible.
  • Upon entering Main Street I kept trying to find Donald or Daisy, just as I had before, but still no luck. Turns out Disneyland has little love for the ducks :(
  • I decided I had to either ride Alice in Wonderland again or Peter Pan's Flight. Of course a lot of other guests wanted to journey to Neverland so Alice won.
  • Gosh I love that ride, it is such a fun little dark ride. Disneyland is a dark ride lovers paradise.
  • I also wanted to get some pictures of Frank and I in the gold ride vehicles however Frank wasn't into that, so as you can see in the pictures I went solo and he was the photographer.
  • We also popped on Snow White's Scary Adventure one more time.
  • After playing in the park a bit more we went to DCA.
  • We got a Fastpass for Soarin'
  • I wanted to play in the Challenge Trails, mainly because of the Brother Bear theme. Frank wasn't too interested but I convinced him to go with me. Wouldn't you know it we ended up playing around in the rope climb like little kids, oh it was so much fun. You can see him after he went boom on the ropes in one of the pictures :)
  • We went Soarin' front row and center baby, oh ya! I just love this ride and it was nice to actually ride the original.
  • Our last veture in DCA that day was to watch Aladdin. There were a few techinical issues, but it was an enjoyable show. One of the Agrabah villagers was in an electric wheelchair that was all decorated. It was a little distracting to be honest. But Genie was fabulous!
  • We started getting tired so we went back to the hotel to rest ;)
  • We went to Club 33 with Frank sister and his niece. BIG MISTAKE. They both had been there four times, so they totally did not get my astonishment and excitement. Plus they did something embrassing, but I won't go into it. Once they left, early  , Frank and I had a great time.
  • I had a five course meal with wine for each course. It was amazing. I felt like royalty. I never wanted the night to end. I nearly cried, but I kept my composure.
  • Afterwards it was like Frank and I were in high school on a little date. There were dressed up walking through the park at night. We went to the Tiki Room since I had never seen the original. The CM was great and explained how this attraction paved the way for HM and PoTC, I thought that was great.
  • After journey to the land of the Tiki we played on Main Street in the Penny Arcade HOW COOL!!!!!!!!
  • We boarded the Disneyland railroad. Wow what a difference. I really like WDW's trains better even with the Dinosaur area.
  • Finally we watched Remember Dreams Come True. AMAZING!!!! Unfortunetely Tink did not fly, but man it was just an incredible experience. We watched from the Train Station, I sort of wished we had watched close to the castle, but afterwards when "Remember When" played we sat on a bench, I looked a Walt's lamp, Frank held me as I began to cry tears of joy.

You hit Oprah! That's so rad!

In-N-Out is the best! There's one just a few blocks from SeaWorld here, so we go there for lunch sometimes. :slurp:

I've found that I have to be in the right mood to enjoy the Explorer canoes. 99% of the time, most of the other guests in the canoe aren't really paddling at all, they're just along for the ride - which has gotta suck for the CMs! So whenever I go on it, I paddle hard to help out. Basically, I have to be in a mood for a good workout and a good splashing. I got soaked, sitting right behind the CM last time. It was hot out though, so it felt great!

But have you seen the arms on those CMs? They have a good workout and some aren’t bad to look at. :lookaroun
Just trying to find the positive for going on the canoes.
