A WDW Cast Member's first trip to Disneyland

  • Well dang it, I had a whole report typed out when I went to add in my photo album and the computer froze, losing all the data I typed in.
  • Well I will put it this way. I traveled with my boyfriend, Frank, who grow up in Southern California. I had never been to Disneyland and was born and raised in Orlando. I never thought anything could beat WDW. Well Disneyland Resort does not surpass WDW Resort, however, the Disneyland park surpassed Magic Kingdom in my eyes. Wow!
  • Here's my summary of Day 1 - Friday August 12, 2005
  • In N Out burgers are the bomb!!!!!!
  • As I cried upon seeing Main Street and Walt's apartment for the first time a fellow Guest looked at me funny. Frank explained "it's her first time". The Guest replied, "oh she is gonna love this place." He was right.
  • Fantasyland was closed due to Oprah Winfrey taping a show whilst making a wish come true for an entire Elementary school.
  • We also witnessed a wedding photo op in front of Sleeping Beauty Castle.
  • My first Disneyland attraction was Autopia. However, the attraction was shut down for Oprah and her group. Of course we ended up driving behind her! And unfortunetely at the end of the ride, as Frank was driving, BAM! WE BUMPED OPRAH WINFREY!
  • I am in love with Disneyland's Fantasyland, much better than back home.
  • Alice in Wonderland's dark ride is my new favorite dark ride anywhere! I loved going into the rabbit hole and then going outside, caught my one and only glimpse of the parade.
  • Took a dinner break to go to Del Taco: Fish Tacos = yummy!
  • Took part in some vodka before heading back in, hey it's vacation!
  • Storybook canal boats are quite fun when you are super buzzed :).
  • I enjoyed Pinnoccio's Daring Journey, but I am very bothered that in the last scene of the ride Pinoc is still a wooden puppet!
  • Only popped into Toontown fo ra short bit, I was sad that the Jolly Trolley no longer runs, but it still kicks Toontown's Country Fair's butt!
  • Innoventions was hard to enjoy as my buzz was wearing off and my day of travel was getting to me.
  • We headed to Newport Beach, where Frank's sister lives.
  • At 9pm we fell asleep to the sound of a ritzy birthday party across the street. Gosh that place is beautiful.[/color]
  • Day 2 - August 13, 2005
    [*]
    • Woke up in Newport Beach
    • Ate at Denny's - I actually ate healthy :)
    • Just after park opening we arrived. I was still excited, but I was able to take in the sights a little better.
    • Our first stop was Peter Pan's Flight. WOW! It is sooooo much better than WDW's. It is so cool how you actually enter a bedroom window instead of just entering a scene. The star effect is fabulous. LOVED IT, LOVED IT, LOVED IT!
    • Next we ventured to Snow White's Scary Adventure. It was so neat how the Wicked Queen leered through the window above. I had to get a picture! I loved the gold spell book effect as you enter the queue. The show effects added more movement, and the timing of the scenes was better than WDW. I just didn't like how "They lived happily ever after" was just thrown in there.
    • The line for Mr. Toad's Wild ride was pretty short, so we popped on. I was really interested in seeing this ride since there was a big hullabalo about it closing at WDW. I never experienced it before it closed. Well to me it was neat, but not worth all the commotion that everyone was raising. Maybe it's just me.
    • Our next stop was a tour around the world: It's a Small World. I do enjoy the front of the building better, which is why we got someone in line to take our picture. I like the mermaid scene and the postcard goodbye scene, but other than that I like WDW a little better. I like how at WDW the track is wider and does not curve as much so you can look in whatever direction you wish. At DL the track has more curves that basically tell you where to look. I also like that at WDW the water extends out to the scene whereas DL since it was from the World's Fair is a track with water that is surrounded by the scenes. I hope I explained that well enough.
    • Roger Rabbit Spin was pretty fun, poor Frank had to fight the steering wheel the whole time, otherwise I would have lost it
    • Frank had a Fastpass for Space Mountain. He reported that the track felt better and the effects were much more up to date. I shopped around planning out what merchandise I would buy on our last day.
    • Now up to this point I had not even seen Frontierland, New Orleans Square, Critter Country, or Adventureland! And I was already loving DL more than MK.
    • Adventureland: Bengal Barbeque be the bomb! :)
    • Overall I like the theming of Adventureland at DL better, but I like that at MK it is much bigger and isn't like a pocket part of the park.
    • New Orleans Square is marvelous. I love New Orleans, I have been there twice. And I just loved the feeling of New Orlenas Square, and the 50th banner was beautiful.
    • DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES!: Time to see how PoTC differs. Wowzer! It is awesome! The story is actually told much better and more obvious, the effects were better. The first drop got to me a little, but no big!
    • Haunted Mansion overall ties with MK, however I liked how the building itself really looks like a mansion and isn't too scary as you approach it, much like a haunted mansion in New Orleans.
    • We ventured to Critter Country. I actually enjoy the Winnie the Pooh ride at MK better. I like that you enter the storybook. But some of the effects at DL are better.
    • Our final ride of the day was the Explorer canoes. Frank was being splashed by the little boy behind him. The ride itself was not enjoy by many of the us. Frank did not handle the situation too well.
    • We left to see if our room was ready, we got a nice big room with a king size bed.
[*]We enjoyed some adult beverages and never made it back to the park :)

Coming soon: DAY 3 complete with dinner at Club 33.

wow...you're report was so awesome! I've never been to DL either, but after reading your report, looks like I'll have to plan a trip there soon!

By the way, you two make a cute couple!

Ya our CM was nice looking, but I had my Frankie there so it was hard to appreciate another man when I had him there.
However, the CM really did not instruct us on how to row properly or how to time it so we don't hit each other. I am not sure if it is part of the standard spiel, but I sort of wish it had been included.

Eh, it's always best to paddle at the exact same time as everyone else anyways. You get a stronger push, and you won't hit each other. When I'm at the front, I try and adjust my timing to match the CM's. :)

Ah..Disneyland. I agree with most of your report.

However, our Mr. Toad beat DL's any day. Ours had TWO tracks, much better scenes, and was far nicer. They have a nicer queue, though.

I am glad you had a great time! I'm dying to go back there myself. I really like it more than our Magic Kingdom as much as I love that. All it needs it the CBJ back in Critter Country and the Carousel of Progress to replace the lame Innoventions. . . and we're even. ;)

Sounds like an awesome trip! A friend of mine said she saw technical problems with Aladdin awhile back, too, and that the carpet in A Whole New World was acting up. :(

Tempting...especially as things are going well in the stakes of having someone to pose with against that background :D

The link did not work on the image Joe, but I think you are refering to the pictures in front of the Happily Ever After background. I guess it would be best to explain the relationship I have with Frank.
I won't tell how old he is, especially since it is hard to tell in the photos. Anyway, he has been through a lot more in life than I have. We are very different in a lot of ways, but what is great is that we are not changing each other. We accept each other and we both are starting to see life from each others perspective. However, chances are our relationship will never go further than where it is now. But for the time being he is someone I enjoy having in my life.

That is indeed the photo. From the pictures it looks as if your relationship is one of joy at each other's presence, and that's no bad summit for any couple to find themselves.

Agreed, he is currently on the Disney Magic while it is on it's two week voyage to return home to Florida from California. Once he gets home it will have been three weeks + that we will have been apart :( But we had a great time together. I think it surprised him how much fun we had since he had never been on vacation with someone outside his family.

I feel bad for being at WDW practically every day but missing Disneyland. I think WDW is better all around, but Disneyland has a big special place in my heart.
