I have to ask a question for those who have experienced a trip to WDW during a war. Will attendence drop furthur? Will this cause new attraction announcements/openings to come to a halt? I've never been to Disney during a foreign conflict, so I wouldn't know the answer.

not to sound rude...but if we went to war the thing I would care about least is if Disney is adding a new ride or attraction. Sorry about that...

I THINK that out of all Disney theme parks worldwide, WDW would suffer the most, because it relies on visitors from around the world, and for the most part I THINK that most tourists will not be wanting to travel to a country involved in a war. I (a Canadian) would definitley hold off my annual holiday to WDW if there is a war(but hopefully a war will be avoided)

I think that if we went to war disney should not halt anything. it should keep up apperences as if it wasn't effected so as to keep it a place of magic seperate from the outside world. would this happen? probably not. attendance would drop and wdw would have to concerve money. that's the way it is.

Attendance will drop a lot, I'm look it dropped just from that dumb "orange" rating crap (which nothing happened) But for local it will be great, there will be some awesome deals!

I am sorry if I sound all GRR but its war where things shoudnt be funny....

I went to Disney the week after 9/11 and just from that changes were major. Many of the stands were closed, restaurants cut way back {like thanks for telling us! I went to Tony's at 8 am thinking I would be there for my PS and they had closed until 9:30} the bathrooms for the first time I can ever remember were dirty, out of soap, towels...
Our last trip in Dec. things were much better. Let's just hope things won't turn back!

Quite simply - YES.
While many Americans (North & South) and Canadians would be prepared to drive to WDW, a huge percentage of guests fly to Orlanda (especially all the Europeans - coz there's no other way to get there :hammer: ) therefore park attendances, revenue etc will suffer dramatically

What is this? Sorry, but that is a really random statement to a question about the sadness of war and disney attendance.

If the attendance does drop and they cut things back EVEN MORE than they have already, they're going to have to probably lay a bunch of workers off. :(

It's so sad. And I'm not just being saracastic. We all know that attendance will drop greatly, and some attractions, resturants, and shops will without a doubt be closed.

And to think....I almost went down there for the College program this semester. I'm glad I held it off for a year. One of my friends i down there now....that must be really scary knowing we might go to war and you are 2,000 miles away from home.

Let's hope for the best, and continue supporting Disney! :sohappy:

as a cp from fall 2001, i was actually working in animal kingdom on 9/11. it was a very scary day. but to be honest, even with all the threats of major icons of america being targets (think the sears tower, gateway arch, golden gate bridge, etc.), i still felt a sense of security. in fact, since we had little time to watch tv down there, i didn't start worrying about things until after returning home to illinois.

and i went back as a cp summer 2002. had an amazing time. sure, it rained everyday, but it was still magical. so, i'm sure that your friend is doing fine. in fact, they are probably just blind to what is going on right now. which isn't always a good thing, but it prevents people from worrying, ya know.

With regards to international attendance dropping at WDW, what you have to remember is that IF there is a war the chances are that it will start within the next couple of weeks and is likely to last for a couple of weeks max. Most international visitors would have already booked for this period and the chances of them cancelling at such short notice with out being advised to do so is slim.
We are visiting Orlando for the first two weeks of April and there is NO way we would think of cancelling unless advised to do so by the foreign office, and I think the chances of that happening are slim.
It takes alot to keep people away from WDW :)

All i have to say is that the only thing that will cause attendace to go down is a bad economy. If people can afford to go, they still will...infact i think for some people during a war they would spend more time at WDW. for my family, going to disney is like entering another world and totally ignoring the rest of the world...everyone needs a break from life, druing war and peace times.

First off - there already is a war - a war on terror! This is why WDW is in a slump at the moment and will continue to do so as long as there is a general threat of teroism (which will probably be for years to come  )

Secondly - if there is a war with Iraq (very likely) I doubt it will effect attendance at WDW that much. What you have to remember is, this is a war that will probably last a week, if that. Most of the Iraqi people actually want to be liberated and while they might fight American troops at first, eventually they will give up and drop the weapons after a few nights of bombing. The only place there will be fierce fighting is in Baghdad itself, where Sadamm and the only honorable troops he has left will most likely fight to the death, but with America closing in around him he won't last long. Anyway, my point is - the fighting will be thousands of miles away from WDW - and therefore WDW has no threat from Iraq. Sadamm doesn't even have missiles capable of hitting most of eastern europe anymore, let alone the United States.

Sorry for such a depressing post - nobody wants war if it can be avoided but just wanted to make my point about the second gulf war not making much of an impact on WDW attendance.

You also stated in a previous post that if war was to come, the last thing you could care about is a new Disney ride opening.

I look at it like this. if war takes place, I will go to Disney. I will enjoy myself fully and i will hope that a new attraction opens.

I think the park management would appreciate that, the president would appreciate that, and especially the United States economy would appreciate that.

You have to realize that in war times, or in times of trouble, when you support things that are American buy spending money, you are boosting the economy. Just remember that. I don't blame people for not wanting to travel, I wouldn't either, but I live close to WDW and by all means I won't let a war that will last ten minutes keep me from going.

To hell with Sadaam and all you tree hugging war opposers who think leaving them alone will make it all better. Your small minds all too easily forget 9-11. That's what happens when you leave them alone.

I think the comment is political. Germany, saurkraut, couldn't find, hot dog, mess.
