A view for New Years Eve, and is it worth staying 1 night at...?

OK so likely going to be staying at a value resort for 7-8 nights (Dec. 24th-Dec.30th) and potentially 1+ night *Dec. 31st at a better hotel. My question is what Disney hotels offer great views of the park specifically during new years eve. I would prefer to have a view of the Magic Kingdom. Does any one think it's worth the extra 650.00 for 1 night ? Considering the entire week at a value during peak costs 1400.00, is it really smart to add almost 50% more on top of that for one night? I'm on the fence! I'm not sure if it's worth it to hotel hop for just one night, but again it's new years. Or perhaps should I just stay at a moderate resort all 8 nights?

We don't plan on really spending that much time in the hotel, so what's your take on which I should go for ?

some break downs I'm debating on
Travel dates Dec.24-Jan. 1st
8 nights value = 1400
7 nights value + 1050 1 deluxe for new years +650 = 1700
8 nights moderate =2350

might even stay an extra day (Dec.24th-Jan. 2nd),
9 nights at value =1600

Best bet for MK fireworks would likely be Contemporary... but I don't know if I'd personally do the hotel hop for just one night... the way I look at it is, you can go see the fireworks from inside the park for under $80 (one day ticket) which means the party atmosphere, the soundtrack, etc.... versus $650.

a room for one night is not worth the money, choose your park and enjoy New Years Eve at the Park, or
make a dinner reservation at the California Grill (not sure of the NYE pricing) or Narcoosees for eleven and watch the fireworks from their viewing area.

You can see the Magic Kingdom's New Year's Eve fireworks from either the Polynesian Resort on the beach or the Contemporary from the California Grill lounge.

My advice to you since you seem like you don't want to be in any of the parks on New Year's Eve is to watch the Magic Kingdom's New Year's Eve fireworks on Dec. 30th as they test them out the night before at midnight. If you decide you want to see some New Year's Eve fireworks on Dec. 31st you can stay at the value resort for an extra night or stay offsite and then just visit one of the Magic Kingdom resorts to view the fireworks from there. You could also if you decide to see the fireworks at the Magic Kingdom the night before go to the Boardwalk Resort and watch the fireworks from both Hollywood Studios & Epcot from there on Dec. 31st.

Splash out the money and sit in your room while everyone else is out enjoying the festivities - I can think of 100 places I'd rather be at midnight on NYE than in my Disney Resort room.

I was staying at the Polynesian this past New Years Eve. As soon as it got dark the resort was swarmed by families coming from other resorts. My suggestion is stay at a cheaper resort and go to the Polynesian or Grand Floridian Beach and watch the fireworks. We LOVE the Polynesian and always stay there.....but it is PRICEY :)

I'm probably going to skip the hotel hop, not just because of price but also probably annoying to pack up and then get resettled in another hotel for 1 night, and then the next day fly. I'm thinking the 8-9 day at the value resorts should suffice (especially with the prices during peak holiday). So Inside the parks and jammed packed in like sardines it is!

Have you tried to book the room for one night? I would be surprised that there isn't a minimum night stay at any resort for NYE. There was always one when I worked at CRO. Even if you are staying somewhere else on WDW property, there was always a minimun stay at each resort.

There are literally dozens of ways to catch the MK fireworks without changing resorts or actually being in the parks. A one day hop is really more trouble than it is worth, and there is no guarantee your room will have a great MK view, then you will have the expanse and trouble of the move and still have to find a spot for the fireworks.

Stay the extra days at the value and stake out a great spot early.

Not sure how Bay Lake Tower does the roof-top viewing on NYE- but if it was open - I think it would be amazing!! They play the music on the roof-top and in spots- you can even see EPCOT fireworks. We're trying to make our ressies for BLT this holiday. We'll see!!!!

Good luck!

IMO that would be a waste. If you really want to get the full effect on NYE at Disney, you need to be IN one of the parks (MK is the best). Just stake out a spot on Main Street early in the day...I promise, it's well worth the wait!

If it were me (and we have done this) I would stay at BC or YC on NYE. EPCOT is awesome that night, and there is nothing better than walking back to your resort when everyone else is trying to get a bus, monorail, car, etc.

BLT's rooftop is great BUT only available to DVC members staying on points.

Or you could go to MK or the Contemporary on Dec 30th and see the exact same show and then go to EPCOT or DHS and see something completely unique on NYE.
