If you want an early Throwback Thursday, one of the questions in our early Disney Debates this year was -- which superhero movie in 2016 would be the best.

Out of: Deadpool, Batman v Superman, Captain America:Civil War, X-Men Apocalypse, Suicide Squad, Dr. Strange

Here were the debate responses arguing for

Dr Strange
My turn ain't it? ;)

Doctor Strange will undoubtedly be the best superhero film of 2016. It's a fresh idea, different from the S.H.I.E.L.D/Avengers romps Marvel has been putting out lately.

The plot synopsis looks promising and original, an idea which really engages me. Benedict Cumberbatch was really good with Khan in Star Trek, so I would like to believe he is going to deliver an equally great performance here.

Overall, Doctor Strange is going to be fresh and very mystical. Add some classic Marvel humor in there, and Marvel is going to have a hit on their hands.

Batman v Superman
Ah, sorry for being late :p

My choice is definitely Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice, for various reasons. First off, for years we've seen the Avengers do their thing as a group, and as we're patiently awaiting Civil War - but with Dawn of Justice we're getting the "war" aspect with these two icons right off the bat with Dawn of Justice. Since this presumably leads to forming the Justice League, we really get to see some serious fighting between Superman and Batman slowly turn into working together with an interesting dynamic buildup in comparison to Marvel's. This also features one new actor as the lead of Batman, and although there's been a serious Batman franchise recently, this really sets a level playing field for the new "League" which is also pretty exciting. This also brings in another heavy hitter in the comic book world, which we haven't seen in a while in movie form, which is Wonder Woman. Add in the anticipated action scenes it's a no brainier that this is going to be a top movie this year.

Civil War
Alright i ll just go ahead and say, My argument is mostly personal choice. Im most excited for civil war. Why? well heres why. As much as Rated R nonsense could please others, i choose to go a more conventional route. Civil war has the characters i love and the marvel format i love. So really its hard to factually prove civil war will be the best. i will just enjoy it the most. Btw, i dont do weird. so no thx "suicide squad"

The easiest thing that i can say about deadpool is VIOLENCE, NAUGHTY WORDS AND MUCH MORE. call me a family man idc, i aint about that life XD
As for strange, i really am hyped for it. just not as much as civil war.
AND DONT U DARE MENTION BvsS

Its now i realize im terrible at debating XD because honestly im not truly against the other remarks. i mean enjoy what you want im seeing civil war. Ta ta for now

Deadpool
This is hardly even a fair fight. Deadpool is BY FAR going to be the best superhero movie of 2016. This movie is every fanboy's dream come true. It's by far the film that has the most passion behind it and doesn't have a corporate agenda (unlike Marvel's Avengers line up which frankly I'm sick of...Give me more weird stuff like Guardians and Doctor Strange please...)

Ryan Reynolds has spent seven years getting this movie made and it's all going to pay off in a glorious way. The film will be a no holds barred, R Rated, totally not safe for work delight and will be utterly faithful to the iconic character due to the fact that it's a huge passion project. Deadpool is truly the comic book movie of 2016 that's going to break new barriers and hopefully allow other companies to take risks on more adult material. It could really open the creative floodgates of the genre, which at this point would be nothing but a good thing considering I'm not the only one who thinks Marvel is getting a little long in the tooth.

Also, Ryan Reynolds will be at the Superbowl in costume as Deadpool serving Chimichangas out of a food truck. You just can't argue with that. I dare you! :p

I was able to see Dr. Strange early...and well after now seeing all 6 of these...I guess I can finally answer this question. :D

Here's my personal list -- I will just concede that some may not agree, but it's my list so I don't care:p

6. Suicide Squad - was a big mess and so much unused potential.
5. X-Men Apocolayse - I'm not really an X-Men fan, nor a Jennifer Lawrence fan, so this just wasn't a good mix:hilarious:
...
..
..
..
the dots are to emphasize that there is a huge gap between 4th and 5th. 1-4 are really good movies for me!

4. Deadpool - the funniest and raunchiest superhero movie ever, however I watched it on TV recently and it didn't have the same re-watchablility in terms of jokes (which is most of the movie). If I didn't watch it again it would have probably been #2. But I moved it down because I can watch the next 3 multiple times and not get tired of it.

Next 3 might be sketchy...:rolleyes::angelic:

3. Captain America: Civil War - woah! What?! Yes...I love this movie...it's the build up of the entire MCU and it introduced new characters like Black Panther and Spider-Man. It had everyone in it. The reason why I have it at 3 though, is because my two top films are stuff that we either will never see again, or an entire new door for future Phases.

Civil War was a culmination of the past, and will sure have repercussions in the future, but at this point, we've seen the same heroes twice on the screen together in the last two years. That's why I have the other 2 higher. Because Civil War feels like an episode in a TV season, the other movies are either...you're never gonna see this again because DC wants to be like Marvel...or...omg there's a mirror dimension!

2. Batman v Superman - I was very sketpical of this movie...then I saw it, and it wasn't that bad (probably would have been 4 on the list)...then I saw the Ultimate Edition and the news about Justice League and the new movies...and I like it even more!

I actually like the dark tone of Snyder/Nolan movies. I really liked Man of Steel. And I like the epic music as well by Zimmer and Junkie XL. It's different than Marvel, and that's what I like about it...the variety and the different color patterns, etc.

The movie has a ton of critics...but idk...as a comic book fan -- the stylized scenes are ripped right out of the comic books. It just all fits for me. And the extended version ironed out the clunky plot so that it's more understandable. It's sad because this is going to be the last of these style of movies....they want to make it "lighter" and "funnier" --- but being different than Marvel is what makes DC stand out. Ah...it's my #2.

And yep...my #1...yes @Voxel it is...

1. Dr. Strange - I'm a huge fan of "trippy" Inception like movies, so that's my bias opinion coming through, but this is such a different spin on the MCU...I loved it.

It's just like 60s era comics. It got everything right...and to top it all off...I flipped! My Dr. Strange attraction from TSI Season 2 --- if you read it...there's some slight spoilers for the movie:D:hilarious: I was like..omg they included that!

The Dark Dimension

As Dr. Strange continues through the Dark Dimension he happens upon a doorway to another dimension. He suspects that the Ancient One's request is in the next dimension. The doorway is open and out steps Dormammu, Dr. Strange's arch-enemy and evil ruler of the parallel universes. Dr. Strange knows he must fight Dormammu if he hopes to accomplish the Ancient One's task.

I fangirled at that.:p

It was my favorite standalone Marvel movie yet, and yeah - it might not be everyone's top movie of the year...but it's mine because I like the character and because I think this movie just blew the door open on possibilities for future movies. The 2017 lineup of Marvel movies...in particular now Thor 3, I'm really looking forward to.

Also the mid/post credit scenes...stay for! I'm gonna see it again in the theater.

Here's an extended look - the visuals alone are worth it.
