A Spirited 15 Rounds ...

He also ran the feature film business into the ground, had Disney making tripe like "Cinderella III", almost lost Pixar, and a dozen other things that were largely due to the fact that no one in Hollywood could stand working with him by the end, he had burned so many bridges.
Thank god I'm not the only one who thinks this!

I understand not loving Iger, but the Eisner revisionism just seems bizarre to me. All I can think is that people don't remember the state Disney was in when Iger took over. It really had gone from perhaps the premium entertainment brand in the mid-1990s to becoming something of a joke with all the Cinderella IIIs and Bambi IIs along with parks like DCA and WDS. That was really the period when the idea that the Disney name was synonymous with quality disappeared. If anything, Disney now is a stronger brand than it has ever been, at least in my lifetime.

But, yes, Iger has been terrible for WDW so far.

Possibly, I've worked since I was 14 and Wall St has ensured comfortable retirement impossible due to losses when bubbles burst. So like most in my cohort I'll work till I drop.

But...but...just get a better job, man. And just cut out the crap I'm sure you waste money on, like food and housing, and save your money more wisely. And just do what they did in the old days - stuff it in your mattress so Wall Street didn't get it.

But I actually liked Bambi II :(

- The New Wall St Motto "Privatize the Gains, Socialize the losses" ever notice during the 2008 crash all the people responsible STILL got their huge bonuses, At least in the S&L driven crash not only did they lose bonuses but many went to jail as well

I think the move Iger wants to make before he leaves is to buy Netflix and then have Reed Hastings take over for him when he retires. The way media is being delivered (thanks to Reed starting the cable cutters) there isn't anyone better to run Disney and steer the ship where it needs to go. Now where this leaves Disney Parks is anyone's guess. I hope it doesn't lead to the Parks and Resorts being sold off.

I think the idea of the parks being sold off has sailed. Synergy is too important now. And they are just too important to the company these days. They also don't want to end up with the international situation of not owning and controlling their own parks.

Thanks. But you will have a bit of a wait. That's why I put a few quick thoughts out (BTW, since this thread had to be a film one in my absence, did I miss something or was the first Spidey film in the MCU not quite the gazillion dollar success it was supposed to be? I mean, we all know most online fans will rip the Cars franchise, so the fact Cars 3 has pretty much eaten dust at the box office likely makes most happy. But Marvel? C'mon ... )

But ... people are loving the Spidey Homecoming Dance film in China and ... oh, yeah, that is still a Sony Pics joint.

So, when it looks like Spider-Man Homecoming is going to be a box office disappointment, it's a MCU/Marvel Movie. But now that it's proven to be a box office success, it's a Sony movie?

Cinderella 3 was actually one of the good DTVquels between the self-aware humor and the third act featuring Cinderella having to escape a demonic pumpkin coach speedingly wildly towards a cliff, and stealing a horse to crash her own wedding.
You know, I've been annoyed at people using images of Charming from Cinderella III instead of the original film, so I've developed some hatred towards of it. Your post makes me want to watch it.

Hey @WDW1974 did you ever tell us why they pulled the Marvel announcement from D23? Oh ya how about that bombshell news for Anaheim? Apologizes if I missed the former.

I remember Jim Hill mentioned in a previous podcast sometime after D23 of this year. Where he mentioned the reason why the Marvel announcement for D23 2017 was pulled for Parks and Resorts would have to do with the negative crowd reaction to Pirates Of The Caribbean changes.

Sorry I'm not understanding the connection there. ???

Welcome to HillLand!

Anyways, wasn't the new physical gate (the Eastern Gate) not being approved by Anaheim the issue for pulling announcements about MarvelLand?

Yeah that's most likely it. But it sounded like Spirit had a little more context and some other possible reasons.

Television was another thing too. I mean, look at Save Disney Shows and the 65 episode rule. It took them many petitions to save KP and to bring back American Dragon Jake Long.

Most definitely. I loved those shows. Pooh's Corner was lit, too.

I loved So Weird, The Famous Jett Jackson, and The Jersey. The classics like Zorro and Mickey Mouse Club were the best.

Lol oh heck ya the late 80s to late 90s were a great time for the Disney Channel.

Was So Weird the one where the aliens crash in the backyard?

How bout the Tony Danza classic - The Trash Picking Field Goal Kicking Philadelphia Phenomenon?

My Date with the Presidents Daughter?
