A Radical Idea???

Attendance is down, new rides, costar’s.. la la laa.

What would happen if they closed Epcot for 2 years? In those two years every ride was "Re-built" so that it would appear just as it did in 1982. Not only that, but the parts were technology has advanced was updated NOT replaced.

Example:

Gone are all the "World Key" kiosks, replaced by "IKey" Stations that have cutting edge internet capabilities built into them, along with an web cam enabled reservation system.

Journey Into Imagination is back and so is DreamFinder, the ride and music just as you remember it. Now, however the ride functions more like "Spiderman" at IOA. As you chase your way thru the all the dreams the dream finder has collected.

Landscaping, the park looks just as it did when it opened. That big Lucite thing is back in the entrance of the park. Tree's and green space all over the place.

New countries have been added to World Showcase, and those great Circle vision films are back, but this time projected in Omnimax 3D style theaters.

World of motion and Horizons are back, Test Track is still there but in a different area. Everything works, all the effects are updated, music tracks never sounded better!

So, what do you think would happen? 2 Years later, the park would re-open. Would it be packed? Would people come and be impressed. Would it just fizzle out and no one would want to visit it?

I think it would get many people going to it for a long time. It could fizzle down if they change it too much and people don't like it. It would be an ok idea but I think 2 years would be too long. Also, with many workers in Epcot, not many would be there to make new rides or renovate rides from teh other parks. Not a bad idea though.

Let me clarify.

Disney Announces they will close Epcot for 2 years to rebuild it. All current staff at epcot stays on the payroll. Every cast member helps to rebuild/clean/fix every aspect of the park. No jobs are lost..etc..etc

When it opens 2 years later, what would the public reaction be?

Business will probably be booming for at least 1 or 2 years. It will probably fizzle down but not much. It would be a good idea but like I said earlier, maybe 2 years is too long.

Not a good Idea...how could Disney afford to totally rebuild a theme park if they have no money coming in to. Not to mention all the CM's for the park that they would still have to pay.

Once again, lets assume that Disney has the money to pay for this.. etc..etc no one looses there jobs etc..etc.

When THE PARK OPENS, what do you think would happen?

What if?

I actually felt my IQ drop when I read this, and with my IQ being so low as it is, that is a major accomplishment. Shutting down any moderate to major source of revenue in a company the size of Disney is just, IMHO, stupid.

Jobs would be lost due to the drop in revenue. Once the park re-opened, there would be no guarantee that the park would sustain visitor numbers after the initial over-crowded few weeks. And why not just fix each "event" one at a time to keep up attendance. Isn't that what they do anyway!?!

Oh, I have an idea, what if Disney cured cancer or developed a new space ship? Let's pretend that they had the money...

Whatever.

Honestly, I don't think that doing that would really be worth it. Adding old rides that wern't particularly popular before they closed and changing the landscaping to look like it did in 1982 would not attract more guests to the park. New pavillions could be added without closing the park for 2 years, so it wouldn't be worth it for that either. I think they can add some new pavillions, but not close the park for 2 years to redo the park.

The park would be huge!!!! Imagine... the park would be two times larger than it is now. Yeah, MK has about twice as many attractions, but MK aren't as technically advanced as those found at Epcot...

They really had the webcam reservation stations at one time didn't they???

I think it wouldn't make a difference. You spend two years closing the park and working meticulously to put it back to what it was in 1982. All that money and going back in time? I don't think so. Why would that bring people back. Sure you would have better technologies but it's still the same Epcot. I think what brings people in are new and exciting things to come, not the old stuff. I would love to see Horizons and WOM one more time, but to take two years to bring it back and then leave it? I know when we hear that something NEW and different is opening, we get our butts down there. But if they said they were bringing back all the old stuff? I don't know if I would rush back for that. Yeah, like I said, I would love to see it one more time but not to leave it there again and go back in time!

What they should do one one of the parks is set up a Disney Museum where we can see all the old rides and the pre and post production plans. I am not saying the whole ride should be there but the cars and maybe some of the more memorable parts should be there. I think this would get a large number of Disney Fanatics to visit it and they already have all the old stuff in the "graveyard"

Epcot is my favorite park and I would be outraged if they closed it for two years! I think they should just continue to update old rides and add news ones as the years go by. That way everyone wins.

On a more optimistic note, it may not be a total overhaul that EPCOT needs anyway. What you really need is a good 4 or 5 attractions that you can advertise and use to draw people in. Test Track and Honey I Shrunk the Audience are all EPCOT has going for it right now in terms of attractions that might actually bring people into the park. With Space opening things may change for better.
