A Quick Question about EPCOT

It's a really great place for F&W dinners or demos. It was used a lot during that festival. They would have food all over the place and people would walk up to each station and pick whatever they wanted. It looked pretty darn nice. Here's a photo of my friends showin off the wine.

Uh oh, Mr. Promey! You forgot to mention the new (?) bakery in Innoventions West, the Fountain View Espresso and Bakery! J/K I usually always see people in business suits walk into the Odyssy. Anyone notice in the guidemaps, it's referred to as "Odyssy Center"?

Well, I do notice the chipping paint, the cemetary at the main entrance, and the lack of people in the park, except for thos riding Test Track. They also have a huge problem with the main entrance, which is why I no longer enter there. It is the only park that does not have a "no package" line for people smart enough to not bring extra bags. One day we waited over 20 min. just to get into the park. This is one park that left plenty of room for "new expansion" and all they have done since WOL opened is destroy old to build new. They worry too much about the bottom line, and that is not the principle that Walt built the company on.

unfortunitly the bottom line is something that happens when companies grow so large nobody knows how to properly manage them. eisner was ok in the 80's before disney grew by leaps and bounds. now he dosn't know what to do. he is getting old. I am sure when he retires things will change a little. and I don't know about epcot but when we were there a week or so ago it took us no more then 2 or 3 minutes to go through the bag check and get into the parks. and some of the guys checking bags can be real funny while others can be duds.

Did they bring that back? I know it was for a while about a year and a half ago but I thought they closed that down because not enough people were using it. (I think it was referred to as the "pin palace" by a lot of regulars". I haven't been in about two months mostly because of illness so it's possible I could be wrong but I thought that was gone for good... Either way, that's still behind the restaurant which unless they plan on brining back, I think they should remove or at least wall up. I don't know, maybe they use it on the really busy days like New Years...

That things been there for a few years. :) Yes, you are right, I did miss that  Epcot is like the Food park! I'm not complaining though - most of it is very good (if expensive) food :D

Well, I was talking about the Oddesy - not the whole park. You said it was in "shambles" and I was looking for some explanation of that statement. There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the building to me. As for the condition of the rest of the park, wouldn't that be covered with the makeovers you mentioned when you said "Unfortunately, except for some new rides and makeovers, it is on the back burner." I assume you don't just mean makeovers of rides since that tent like stuff in the center of future world is relatively new and since they have somewhat recently done work to the big fountain there as well as similar projects to the rest of the park. BTW, just so I know where to look the next time I'm in the park, where exactly did you see the chipping paint? I know I've seen it a few times on rails in some areas where there is heavy guest traffic. Is that what you mean or did you actually see paint chipping off the side of a building?

It was there a week and a half ago when I was there. It wasn't being used that I could see either. So, the pin trading place is not where the restaurant was? I tend to get a little turned around in Futureworld, do I have the wrong place? I had never been in the pizza place but I noticed the pin trading stations where I thought the restaurant was. I'm sorry to keep bringing this up and I hope I'm making sense. I'd just like to make sure I'm not crazy.

Well, I usually go about twice a month but due to some health issues, it’s actually been around two months since I’ve been. The last time I was there it was hotter than I care to think about so they might have set something up inside again. Usually, they have the pin central out there in the center with tables set up. At one time they had another pin location inside that building on the right where the Italian restaurant used to be and where Ice station cool is. If you went in the doors between Ice Station Cool and the coffee shop and passed down that hall where the rest rooms are (going off to the side past the restaurant serving area) on the other side, just past the double doors on the left corner off to the left slightly there was an area set up in that hallway like are with a few pin racks and a register as well as some tables for trading. I don’t know why but people called it the “Pin Palace”. Most of the time, you only saw people in there when there was a LE pin exclusive to the park (because it was the only other location in the park open in the morning that had them) when they would be lined up for a two hour wait and when it rained. Is that the area you are talking about or were they actually set up in front of the counter service area around the front?

I never actually went in, I saw the tables and signs and things as I walked through the breezeway. There were no pin sales, just trading tables. They were set up where the seating for the restaurant was. The counter service was covered up with tarps and such. I saw one lady sitting there waiting for someone to come in and trade, but it was desserted. I also saw a lady in there at one point feeding her baby. Thanks for all the info, I hope you're feeling better! :)

I think it's being handled by the same group in charge of refurbishment of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. ;)

The future is likely to be just like the present...Convention Dining Facility. This is not, as is often percieved, an abandoned building. The facility is used quite frequently...I have been to several functions there that have been very nice. Just because it is not intended for regular day guests doesn't mean it's in shambles and a useless building. It is simply an restaurant that has evolved into a different type of service in a park that is FULL of great restaurants!

While that may be true, it is a rather large building using a lot of space that in the near future could be used to build a new pavilion/show/attraction for the paid guests. Itsg reat for Diney to have things for special guests, but not so much out in the open like that. It kinda says to the guests: "You can't get in here, but we can. Ha ha." Ok, mabey it doesn't say that, but I would rather see convention buildings in parks hidden away from the general public view, so they dont feel like they are missing out on anything.
