Hello my fellow Canadians! What does everyone typically spend on airfare. We are flying Halifax-MCO in september 2012 and are waiting for seat sales. What airlines have you found to be cheapest flying into the states? what do you typically pay, we are finding prices listed 600-700, hopeing for prices to drop, maybe wait for seat sales? what does everyone think?

We've flown out of Halifax 3 of our last 6 times, and even though that airport is 2 hours from home, we've done so because of seat sales. Twice we flew Air Canada and once Westjet. Two of the 3 times we got the non stop flights, but once we had to go through Toronto. In all 3 cases, we flew for about $450 return. We've also been able to fly out of Moncton for similar rates the other times. In all cases though, I checked AC, Westjet and Continental every day starting a year out, and have always found a seat sale. Once, the seat sale was a 1 day thing 11 months before departure, but last year it was less than 8 weeks out (and we had to leave and arrive a day earlier than planned). Patience and willingness to take a bit of a risk might be needed to get a good rate.

Hang in there. The key is flexibility with travel dates, airlines, and even cities, if you can. :)

I ended up booking this year's flights last spring, the day they published, and I booked them one-way. With our dollar over par back then, I paid less than the US price from MCO to Winnipeg. I paid just over $500 (for one, both ways), saving about $400 each person from what they are at now.

Good luck!

I can't drive to a US airport as it is two days drive and a rather expensive ferry ride to get to Bangor, Maine.

We used to be able to get the airfare for the four of us down to 2k or so. The last year and a bit, it is more likely to top out at 3.5k.

We have decided to use our rewards miles exclusively for air travel. This will limit us to travelling in less busy times, and probably every second year.

We just booked points flights leaving here on June 25th and returning July 10th. We have a 4 - 5 day cruise in mind and a split stay at Disney planned.

Hi from PEI !!! We drove down to Portland before and got a great deal ... but later on noticed that we could have gotten a great deal from Charlottetown, Moncton or Halifax if we had just waited. The cost was a little more, however factoring in gas, bridge, hotel and food ... it would have ended up being just about the same without the long drive.

Last November we flew from Moncton to Orlando and return ... for our family of 4 it was $1800 taxes in ... I thought that was great !

You have to watch ... watch ... watch !! I watch several times a day as I have seen sale prices changes within minutes of eachother !

Good luck finding a great deal ! :)

I live in Ottawa and I always fly with american companies because they are less expensive then Air Canada or West Jet. Usually, I use Kayak.com and will tried to wait until the price will be bellow 370$.
