A Pictorial Of An Abandoned Anaheim Resort District - How Does It Recover?

Surprised at the love for Mimi's Cafe. It's comparable to any generic chain restaurant in my opinion.
True. We don't really go to those chain places anymore except BJs for Pizookies. We have our local family owned gotos that we like now. We have some pretty amazing Indian and Sushi places around here.

From what I heard California has more clean air, and less smog due to the Coronavirus outbreak causing lockdowns everywhere.
According to Disneyland's Flight to the Moon, Smog was eliminated back in 1985. Actually for the last twenty years, it's been a lot cleaner. When was the last time we had a smog alert that wasn't because of brush fires?

However, here is a picture of the Chinese pollution during their outbreak. Unfortunately, it is returning to January levels again.

It is quite a step above, for me anyway.
Atmosphere is quaint, staff is always awesome, menu choices have a nice variety, and the yumminess of the food keeps me coming back.
Far nicer choice then a Denny's, IHOP, Mc.Donald's, or a Bob Evans in my personal opinion.
I like it better then Red Robin too...which to me is nothing more then a 'hip 20 something crowd burger joint'.

Here where i live in the Boston area we have a lot of locally owned restaurants which is terrific.
Many of the national chains like Ruby Tuesday, Steak n' Shake, Whattaburger, Big Boy, Bob Evans, and the like have no presence here.
I have always been fascinated by the fact that the Northeast is lacking is so many chains that are commonplace elsewhere.
So many really GOOD places i would love to have locally.
But ZIP.
So it's nice to try something 'different' when traveling.

Mimi's Cafe rocks.
Too bad the closest location to me is in...like....Ohio.....

The chain embargo in New England is because Boston refuses to share Legal Sea Foods with the rest of the country.

Once you guys release Legal Sea Foods and their lobster rolls into the other 47 states, you can get something in return.

Speaking of chains, I wonder how many of the big chains in the Resort District will reopen quickly? Many of them are probably franchise owned (if not all of them) and while they will receive some support from the company headquarters, it's really going to be up to the franchise owner as the small businessperson to decide whether or not to reopen and when.

The franchises in the immediate Resort District I can think of (some with multiple locations within a block or two of each other), in no particular order; Morton's Steakhouse, Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, Starbucks, McDonald's, Mimi's Cafe, Blaze Pizza, Panera Bread, Coco's, Denny's, International House of Pancakes, PF Changs, Cheesecake Factory, Bubba Gump's, Roy's Hawaiian, California Pizza Kitchen, and Tony Roma's. There's also that cluster of hotels just over the border in Garden Grove near Great Wolf Lodge, with a Red Robin, Outback Steakhouse and Buca di Beppo.

Then there's some places considered a big name, but that are really one-offs or just one of a local chain of two or three places; House of Blues and Pizza Press come to mind there.

Because they have access to a company infrastructure at headquarters, these places would have the best ability to tap into the hundreds of Billions of dollars in grants and money now available from the Small Business Administration and federal government. But I just wonder what the individual franchise owners will decide on if and when they reopen?

It's issues like that with franchise owners where I think the best thing would be for Disneyland to give at least a two week warning that they are reopening with a hard date announced, if not a 30 day warning, so that the surrounding Resort District can reopen as much as possible.

🤣

I am prepared to bargain.

Five Legal Seafoods lobster rolls per month for one Mimi's Cafe to open in MA and be located on the Northshore.

OK, Lisa stalled this morning, and currently getting a mammogram.

I walked her out, and my neighbor was out pulling weeds. So we talked for about an hour, on many subjects. But her son-in-law happens to be the owner of Pizza Press. He is the founder, and most of the stores are franchises. But he still owns three, including the one at the Anaheim Hotel on Harbor. He pretty much has only kept the Managers on the payroll, and he is working at all three stores, handling take out and delivery. He is very happy the SBA loans/grants went live today, he is hurting big time. I can confirm that from him directly (he is on the S.O.A.R. board, though he is putting on a good face.

Everyone is expecting a 2 week notice of re-opening, but most would take less of a warning. Many of their employees are waiting for the call to come back to work.

I would think it would take at least 2 weeks to get Disneyland ramped up to reopen after being closed for so long. Between stocking up on food for the restaurants and getting furloughed CM's back and trained on any new procedures, I'm guessing the surrounding businesses will have a fair amount of heads up.

Simple answer, No. The city of Buena Park is taking back the land. Last I heard (earlier this year), The Butterfly Pavilion owners have not fought it, since they don't have the funds to finish it. And in the current economy, probably happy to not have to make performance goals.

I will not ever be convinced that a Butterfly Farm was a viable business proposition. Is there a hankering for Butterfly farms that I'm not aware of? Most natural history museums and zoos and have one, and not once have I ever heard anyone say that was either a highlight of their visit or their main reason for going.

The guy who proposed that was daft.

So today, after Lisa came home from her mammogram, we decided to drive around the resort area (I wanted to drop something off) before picking up dinner at Little Fisherman's.

A few things were open. The CVS had a sign of open 9 to 9, Construction work was happening at the Westin and the Radisson Blu. The Starbucks at Harbor and Ball was closed, so was the one in the Cambria's parking lot. AT&T and Yogurtland were closed, but the restaurants were all open.

The Residence Inn on Harbor near Chapman was open. Only Hotel I could see that was open

Joe's Italian Ice was open with just 2 windows, and 5 groups in line, including us. (Line had 6 foot lines to keep people apart) Very good as always, we both got the Sugar Free Pineapple.

Fast Food options were open. The IHOP next to the Red Lion was open. Morton's and Ruth's Chris both were offering take out and delivery.

But it was a Ghost Town, seems like the few cars we saw were just speeding, which, alas, car racing is a thing in the West Anaheim and surrounding area, with regular accidents, including some deaths.

Here is one in Front of Hotel Pepper Tree. (just a few blocks from home). Heck drove by it minutes after it happened.
