A look at the Tower of Terror refurbishment

Anyone else think this is really bad show?
I think it would be really bad show if they didn't refurbish it and allowed it to fall apart.

There really isn't a better option for this other than an absurdly expensive scrim. And not for nothing, but scaffolding around a hotel that has supposedly been closed for decades following a major accident and is now reopening is not really off theme...

Yep.

But I think it would be worse to have one of only a few major attractions in the park closed for the duration, as well.

Seems like they should have waited till after the holidays, though...

I'm just praying that they don't screw up the que at any point with the whole interactive thing.

I find that kinda strange too. Only thing I can think of is management figures this refurb is going to take some time (months, not weeks) and that winter was the best time to do it from a weather standpoint.

I agree with that they should have waited 'til after the holidays, preferably in Jan. or Feb.. They DO NOT need an interactive queue, though I could see some little things being triggered to go off while in line(like stuff in the shrubbery or some spooky sound), but nothing too much please. This seems like a bigger refurb than I thought, so I'm not sure what to say now. I do wonder if it's just to touch things up(but this doesn't need "touching up", right? to fit with the theme...) or if it's something bigger. . .

I'm glad they are doing it, the exterior was looking pretty faded and sun-bleached. I'm guessing they chose to start this now when there is very little rain.

Now if only they would refurbish the ride itself which is in far worse shape than Everest not having a moving Yeti.

Supposedly it's going to take a couple more months, and it's not reasonable to take all of that scaffolding down before opening and put it back up at night time. They are painting and replacing the balconies, windows and things like that. Nothing interior so far.

So many people say Disney needs to pay attention to maintenance until they actually start doing it. Then the complaints begin because needed maintenance is sometimes ugly, or results in things closing.

Sadly, you can't have it both ways. At least for now the Tower of Terror work isn't forcing a closure of the attraction itself.

Bad Show isn't refurbs.

Bad Show is nose picking... messy costumes... things like that.

Wolf is right. People moan about no refurbs then moan about scaffolding.

The last several times I have ridden, the disappearing hallway scene was broken in some way, or the starfield in the 5th dimension was not working, section's of the ride's audio was out of sync and/or could barely be heard. Its probably stuff that is more noticeable to people who visit and ride frequently like me than once a year guests, but its bad to the point where I feel the ride experience is no longer impressive.

Expedition: Everest is still a great roller coaster whether or not the Yeti swings it's arm at me. With Tower of Terror, on the other hand, the show elements are 75% of the experience. Thats why, while I wish the Yeti would be fixed, I wish people wouldn't make such a huge deal out of it like its single-handedly ruining the WDW experience. Almost every single attraction needs major attention.

I am unclear as to why Disney should have waited until after the holidays to do this? Last I checked, you pay the same amount to enter the parks in December as early February. I understand pushing off ride CLOSURES to keep capacity at a maximum during peak periods, but cosmetic refurbishments can take place at any time.

^ Because now through the 1st week of January is peak season, meaning the largest amount of guests possible are experiencing bad show. This looks like an extensive refurbishment though, and their reasoning for starting now, if I had to guess, is because there is hardly any rain this time of year, and this way they can finish by the spring break period.

they've done exterior refurbishments during peak seasons for years, now--e.g. much of Main Street was under wraps this past Summer. It's ride closures they avoid during peak season.

 No interactive queue?! But that's the future of Disney!! How else can we wait in line? It's not like talking to our family, or looking at the details of the building, or enjoying a walking break in the shade is good enough... :ROFLOL:

Seriously though, I think neat little details are always a bonus, so add away Disney.
