Pre-Trip A Grand Sweet 16 PTR May 2014!

Hey everyone! This is my second PTR. I did my last one for the All-Nighter trip I took with my mom. We've been back to the World twice since then and we're ready for another round! So let's get started!

A Little Background Information First: My mom and I are super-duper Disney fanatics. This will be her 12th trip and my 11th trip, 7 of those have been in the past 5 years! You can see a better breakdown of our trips in my signature. Anyway, ever since I was like 12 I've wanted to go down to the Utilidors (it's my dream to work for Disney, hence my username: "ImagineerDude"), but you have to be 16 years old to do so. We planned (well, I planned) since then to go over my 16th birthday, May 2nd. It was just going to be my mom and I. Back then, we never would've thought my dad and sister would let us go by without them...but last year I got a fortunate surprise at Outback one night...I was going to Disney World for 24-hours (the All-Nighter)...and just my mom and I! Well, since then my grandma decided she wants to go as well. She isn't as big a Disney freak as we are, but she loves spending time with us and she will be in heaven when she sees the Flower and Garden Festival for the first time! So we've been booked for about a month and I just made my FP+ selections at midnight and I'm getting more and more excited each day!

The Cast:
  • The Mom: a middle aged teacher that definitely "rocks her Disney side" whenever she can. She tries to stump me with her Disney trivia, but she never does :rolleyes: This will be her 12th trip (she went as a kid in the 80's once) and she too is way too excited for her 3rd trip to Disney in less than a year!
  • The Grandma: a hip, cool grandma that will do just about anything for her grandkids (except stay at the Grand Floridian, but I'll get to that later). Let's just say she is THE Dairy Queen. (inside joke) ;) We were worried (my mom and I) that she didn't want to go at first, but she isn't as familiar with the way Disney works nowadays and couldn't understand why we were booking in January if the trip wasn't until May! But she gets more and more excited everytime we talk about it. Her favorite movie is Snow White and her favorite character is Dopey, so hopefully we see him!
  • The Birthday Boy: a high-school student that would much rather skips sports and school to go to Disney World! He says, "I'd rather Disney be my birthday present rather than a car!" He has dreamed about this vacation and can't believe that dream is finally coming true! This is his 11th trip to the World. He takes care of all things My Magic+ (Fastpasses, dining, online check-in) as long as he has a credit card :rolleyes::greedy:
When?
  • Thursday May 1st - Monday May 5th, 2014
Where?
  • From the title, you may assume we are staying at the Grand Floridian (my dream). Unfortunately, the birthday boy couldn't talk grandma and mom into it...they could see anything but the price of it, which wasn't cheap.
  • All-Star Movies (preferred room) was originally what we had booked. We have only stayed in values and to cope with this situation, I decided that I would stay at all the values, then the moderates, then the deluxes in order...cuz I'm kinda OCD like that. We booked with the spring discount.
  • Then we saw the Memory Maker package deal. Long story short, we ended up booking a standard room at Caribbean Beach. We basically upgraded our resort for the price of a memory maker.
  • I'm nervous about the busses at Caribbean Beach, but I'm still just as excited!
Why?
  • I don't think this is necessary to add at this point but here goes anyway...We are going on this trip to 1.) Celebrate my birthday and 2.) Do the Keys to the Kingdom Tour

so there you have it! Next up I'll post some pictures from our previous trip(s) and talk about our dining ressies that I cannot believe we got this "close" to the trip!!

We are getting in late Thursday night after school, so I'm scared to book any dining. I want to go to Beaches and Cream (a family favorite) and if we decide to go there it won't be too hard to get in after 9pm, right? We got in right away w/o a ressie during CHRISTMAS at 7pm. so I think we'll be ok.

I booked 50's Prime Time Café for my birthday lunch. Never have dined here before. My mom has always wanted to dine here. We might just do EPCOT QS for my birthday dinner because I don't know how long we will want to be in DHS until EPCOT EMH. I'm going to wear a birthday pin the whole time so they will all be my birthday dinner :)

Raglan Road for lunch on Saturday. This is new for us to. How is lunch? Is it "boring" without the Irish dancing and music I read about at dinner?

Because we can't stay in the Grand Floridian, we are going to eat there! 1900 Park Fare is booked. Mom and I LOVE the stepsisters so we are splurging to do this!

Columbia Harbor House (a favorite of ours) is included with the Keys to the Kingdom Tour.

And for our last night, I snagged a Be Our Guest reservation! I couldn't believe it! This is also new for us.

Next up, I'll provide our specific itinerary!

As promised, I will now post the specific itinerary I have lined up for us in 58 days!

Key: (this is how I usually plan all my trips)
B = Breakfast
M = Morning
L = Lunch
A = Afternoon
D = Dinner
N = Night

So here we go!!

Thursday 1st:
B: Home
M: School
L: School:hungover:
A: Leave early and head to Indy Airport
D: Airport
N: Southwest flight 5:30pm-7:40pm. Already have Magical Express reserved. After we arrive, we may go to Beaches and Cream if we are hungry to check-out the Boardwalk (Grandma has never seen it). Can you walk from Caribbean Beach to the Boardwalk??

Friday 2nd: Birthday!!
B: Gaston's Tavern for some cinnamon rolls (I'll actually try LeFou's Brew this time! I'm just afraid to spend that much on something if I'll take one sip and dislike it)
M: Magic Kingdom! We are going to try to arrive early and get on the opening show for my birthday before heading to DHS
L: 50's Prime Time Café 1:25pm
A: DHS...We have FP+ for Tower of Terror (don't know if Grandma will do this one), Toy Story Mania, and Great Movie Ride
D: QS in EPCOT...don't know exactly what time we will be getting there so I don't want to make ADRs.
N: EPCOT EMH 9pm-11pm after IllumiNations

I'll do the rest of the week once I get home!

Thanks!

Raglan Road is going to be cancelled, my mom doesn't want to pay nearly $50 for a buffet that night and not be hungry, she wants to go "extremely hungry"!!

Our magic bands are almost here! Ours are coming via USPS. Less than 4 weeks away now...FP+ and everything is good to go! There was a glitch with online check-in and I was able to (accidentally) choose the Aruba village and the one that starts with a "M". But I also got to choose water view and near transportation. I could have literally chosen every single option when you're only allowed up to two or three. We got the wrong DME tags, too. We called and they have already sent us correct ones, but the lady we called at DME didn't even think that the AK, EC, and/or MK meant anything on the yellow tags. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it means which area (Animal Kingdom, EPCOT, or Magic Kingdom area) the resort is in. But it is all straightened out. I chose a green Magic Band. I should have pics up by Saturday!

We leave in 4 days. 4 DAYS! I'm pretty much packed. My mom and I have been buying Disney gift cards since January and we may have went a little overboard...we have over $600 worth of gift cards :eek: looks like we will have to look into doing something extra special not planned in the budget originally :p

needless to say, we are all super excited!!

To recap since they may have changed since last post:

ADRs... 50's Prime Time for lunch, 1900 Park Fare dinner, and Be Our Guest dinner. We may pop into Beaches and Cream for a late dinner and try Kouzzina's for breakfast one day since it's closing later this year.

FP+.... DHS: TSMM, ToT, and GMR
MK: Meet Mickey, Space, Splash

Starting tomorrow you basically get unlimited FPs again after you use the three so that's good.

Weather isn't looking too bad. 30% chance of rain Friday and Saturday...in the 80's. Can't wait to get outta Indiana!

Let me know what you think!
