a Fantastical Wooden Coaster-Ride-of-a-trip

Comin' at y'all with a
sun-drenched-, rain-soaking-, "you've got to be kidding me-", filled, 7-day TR!

To say that this adventure was like a "fantastical wooden roller coaster" would actually be...well..a spot on observation! And to be quite honest, personally I had more fun enjoying the magic of anticipation than I did the pilgrimage...lessons were learned, tears were shed, and blisters were endured.

As for the rest of my Disney-lovin' family, their journeys take on a different light, because as we know, "the reward is in the eye of the beholder"...or something like that. My DD's will tell you that they had a blast, so much so, that the oldest couldn't wait to get home and set up her own version of Test Track; and the youngest performed her own set of meet-and-greets with her toys the moment we returned home! Then there's my DH, who was just so happy to have a vacation, that the annoying fact that he was not able to use his room card for anything at one point, did not prove to be as frustrating as say, being followed by a cheer-chanting tour group from EP to MK via monorail (seriously, this happened).

To see what was on our original itinerary, I did a very short and sweet pre-TR:

http://forums.wdwmagic.com/threads/the-rain-will-not-ruin-our-parade-ptr.866410/

Buuuuut, if you don't feel like perusing the above link, here's a quick re-cap of the particulars:

the WHO's:Just my little family of 4...
Me: Sara. I am a stay-at-home mom, and a proud owner of a pretty useless four-year degree in journalism and political science...I kid, I kid...the degree is "beautiful" ;) I like to be behind the lens, plan the trips, and organize my family's memories into 12x12 albums. I am also the ear-plugger for my DD's (fireworks get them every...single...time), on-the-spot-boo-boo-soother, and an all around allergy sufferer. This venture marked my 15th visit (since 2003), and my 11th as a DVC member!

DH: Joel. He is literally, "the bread winner," of our family, as his job entails operating his own baked goods delivery route...hey, it pays the bills and fuels our Disney habits. This guy is a germ-a-phobe, golf enthusiast (a self-taught 8 handicap, thank you very much), forever a child-at-heart, and producer of random movie quotes. With this trip complete, he has traveled to WDW 17 times (yup, he's got 2 up on me), and his 11th as a DVC member!

(Here's a family photo from our Oct./Nov. 2012 trip)

DD7: Chloe, 7. Just finished up 1st grade, but reads at a 3rd grade level, and could not wait for summer break to start! She is our ballerina, asthma-sufferer, "can I have another piece of paper for my drawings" artist, and the silly story-teller of the family. No matter how many times she's been to WDW (this marked her 13th), she gets super excited just to be "in her element!"

(right before our trip, she had her first ballet recital)

DD3: Eliza, 3. She is still very much the precocious-peanut of the family, whose love of princess nightgowns has turned them into an every day, "wash it again," obsession! Amazingly, and comically, she correlates plane rides with bus rides, and bus rides with Disney parks! Would love to ride all the rides like her big sister, but her lack of vertical stature leaves her behind (more on this later)...so, she gets compensated with face painting and an occasional high-calorie treat. Her WDW passport has only been stamped 8 times, not too shabby for someone who hasn't hit her 4th birthday yet!

(hammin' it up for the camera after sneaking a piece of candy from her Easter basket)

*Surprisingly, I really missed having the in-laws along...and my DH and I agreed that for any future trips we take, that are more than 5 days, we are dragging them with us. I guess I am one of the few lucky people to have such caring, selfless, and gracious in-laws, even if my DH makes me sometimes question his upbringing ;)

(here we all are during our Oct./Nov. 2012)

the WHEN: June 5-12, 2013

the WHERE: A studio at the Boardwalk Villas (5 nights on points, 1 night on cash, and 1 night on points)
*Please enjoy this video courtesy of AllEars.net, as I took no room photos  :

the WHY: Might as well take advantage of our premium AP's we bought (expire in October 2013)...that, and our next trip to WDW, in theory, won't be until late 2014, early 2015, because we making the trek to Disneyland in Jan./Feb. 2014!

the HOW: Flying via Frontier Airlines out of MDT (near Harrisburg, Pa). Scored an amazing round-trip, non-stop flight: $138/each + seat selection + checked bags.

Craziness! Hopefully the positive memories will remain with you and the bad ones go away.
Disney really should do something about notifying people of when their rooms are ready. I remember last year when we were checking into CSR and the CM behind the counter was nice but veryyyyyyyy chatty! We spent about 30 minutes checking in and it was mostly her talking while we nodded. She said our room was ready and took my cell number down..... we waited 4 hours and heard nothing. I was directed to speak with the concierge and informed that CM who checked us in placed us in a room that was already booked -_- we were given new cards and a new room that apparently was available when we checked in. Luckily that was all the drama on our vacation. Enjoy Disneyland! One day Ill make it there!

Loved the report and I must say how amazing of you to share your extra meals, etc even if it did give you some issues, the gesture is so amazing and nice. I know half the people through away their unused meals, snacks

I know you had issues during your trip but I am so glad you were able to share them with us and look past it to share the good as well. Thanks again.

I'm so sorry you had such a dramatic trip!! Hopefully, your Disneyland one will be much more relaxing! I am so jealous, I want to go to DL so badly! Can't wait to hear all about that trip!

I know, I can't believe a Disney vacay could be soooo full of drama! I tried really hard not to let it spoil the good moments going on around me; but, by our last full day in WDW, I couldn't contain my emotions anymore. However, I will not let those "hiccups" deter us from planning another trip down (we're even thinking about taking a weekend trip to either see MNNSHP or MVMCP...we've done both and loved both!)!

This DL trip has been years in the making and has really taken off in the past 2 weeks! Just waiting for SWA to release the rest of their February 2014 dates AND another sale, so I can finally book our flights!

Somewhere along the line, I'll do a PTR and a TR for your literary enjoyment;) Oh, and thanks for reading along!!

What a wonderful TR! Thank you for posting as I truly enjoyed reading it!

It totally stinks about all those card problems, what's the deal?! My worst nightmare right there! I went solo for just two nights in February and they couldn't find my reservation AND the person checking me in was training...so it took what felt like FOREVER at the desk after my 12 hour drive. I can feel some of your pain. we got it all worked out but I will always remember that time it was messed up! Hopefully everything will be fine in November :)!

Yay for Disneyland! I went once when I was 5 (we lived in CA at the time) and I can't wait to get back (someday)! Planning is so fun!!

Well, it sounds like you had your own set of resort drama, too!
This particular trip was the only time in over 11 years of traveling to WDW, that we had ANY room card problems...guess the odds were against us:confused:

Oh, I am totally enjoying the planning process...whether it be to WDW or DL! However, going to DL brings on a whole new set of "firsts," which are ALWAYS the best part!

Thanks for reading!

I absolutely loved reading about your trip. I am sorry to hear about all the problems you faced, but I am glad that you can notice that there were, too, very memorable moments that you and your family shared.

On another note, I remember when we last year that by day 6 or 7 of our 8 day trip I was thinking the same thing... That I wanted to go home (even though we didn't have any of the troubles you had)..... Now looking back I wish I didn't wish that and am hoping that on our 2 week trip there next August I won't be thinking that AT ALL!!!! - Especially because I am already obsessed with that upcoming trip.

I suppose I will write a very lengthy TR as well next year... Hopefully it will be as good and detailed as yours was.

Thanks again for sharing your Disney Story!!!!
I am very much appreciative that you stuck around to read this text-heavy TR! Due to the rain and drama, I took few pictures this trip...my norm is usually 800-1000 (don't ya just love the digital age?), but this time I only snapped 300:eek:!

This trip is behind us now...time to move and plan another one...or two!

Have fun on your upcoming 2 week adventure; this is on our bucket list, to stay at least 14 days in WDW so we can incorporate more of what FL has to offer!

I will keep an eye out for your TR, and thanks for reading mine!

Thank you so much for sticking around and reading thru this lengthy report!

Oh, sharing our meals was kind of our "pay it forward" moment. Giving something to someone, expecting nothing in return (except maybe a smile), is very euphoric and highly contagious! Plus, we hate to be totally wasteful:rolleyes:

Moving onto our DL trip!

Oh, we have "forgiven" Disney for their mistake, but we probably won't soon forget. You know the saying, "Fool me once..." yada, yada, yada?

Apparently, we aren't the only ones with "notification issues," or room drama! From now on, I will call the resort directly on the hour, every hour until our room is ready (unless it's ready upon arrival).

I cannot wait for our very first jaunt to Mr. Walt Disney's personal playground! The only expectation I have: to have no expectations! Planning can only take us so far, the rest is up to the elements!

Thank you so much for reading along!

And, here they are (well, some of them at least)...our photos from our session with Disney Event photographer, Rick, and his assistant, Jacob (not Dave, as previously mentioned)! Enjoy (and 'yes,' I have the release to post & print these pictures):

(this was our very first picture of the day...Rick said, "Even if I don't get another picture, this one is it!")

The pictures are beautiful! We had issues with our cards, too after we changed rooms. It wouldn't link to the card on file, and I had to tell people to run the KTTW card the old fashioned way. Good for me, too bad for Disney. I think I actually spent a lot less than I would have otherwise!

Your little princesses are too adorable! I am so sorry about all the hassle with the room cards, seriously, what a pain! It was so awesome of you to use your extra credits to pay for people's meals, someone did that for me on my last wdw trip and it made my trip. Your awesome for thinking of others!

Why thank you! Now, if we could only eliminate melt-downs and grouchiness (from the parents as well), we'd have one awesome family!;)

Blech...room cards! Go back to actual keys I say!

Oh, using up dining credits on complete strangers was nothing new for us. Due to the picky eaters in my family, we tend to have credits left over with no notches left on the belt...sooo, I've "picked up the tab" for guests in the past. Actually, I think I enjoy paying for a stranger's meal more than the recipient receiving a free meal!

Thanks for reading thru all this!
