A Disney Park in... WISCONSIN?

Oh puhleeze !! Quite the grist for the rumor mill. I remember actually going to a real estate presentation 4 years ago that said both DISNEY and NASCAR were on their way to settle in BRANSON. Not, going to, happen!!
I saw nowhere that this was stated as a rumor. This isn't the News & Rumor section. It's the thoughts of a writer, and the OP just thought it was interesting enough to share. I agree with her on that. But nowhere did the author of the article, nor the OP, state it as a rumor.

Anybody remember Old Chicago? It was an indoor park in the Chicago suburbs from 1975-80.

Is it me or am I seeing Mickey ballons in this Old Chicago flyer?

I read the article. It actually has me rethink for the Wisconsin Disneyland imagineering idea that I'm working on off and on. The additional 83 acres does change what I have in mind.

I do have a problem with the article mentioning Marvel. All can be done with Marvel Right now is big hero 6 and Guardians of the Galaxy.

if its on the west side of the missisippi they can do anything with marvel

I live in Kenosha, WI. It's smack in the middle of the Milwaukee/Chicago Interstate 94 (I94) corridor - giant suburbs are located between and around these cities - pretty much a giant city of "Chiwaukee."

Chicago is 1 hour south, Milwaukee is 1/2 hour north, Minneapolis is 6 hours northwest, Indianapolis 4-5 hours southeast.

I'm super late to this discussion, but just thought I would throw in that you hit the major metros, but Madison-Baraboo CSA is over 800,000 people and is way closer to Milwaukee/Chicago than MSP. Additionally, the Appleton-Oshkosh-Neenah CSA is 400,000. Not to mention GB and Wausau throwing in another 660,000. People are often surprised when I have to explain to them that there are actually 6 million people in Wisconsin.

All that said, "nah". Needs to be a year round location to thrive, IMHO.

Really the only location it would make sense to put one would be somewhere in Texas. Weather and population are both great.
Texas is probably the best overall state in the nation when you consider jobs, economy, weather, restaurants, people, sports, real estate, etc.

I live in dfw. We go to WDW atleast once a year. Would be nice if there was a disney resort here in Texas. Just don't see it ever happening. Part of the reason they chose Florida at that time was largely due to price of the land and it wasn't raised bc they didn't know disney was purchasing it. They couldn't hide it now a days.

Ding ding ding. Dallas has some great incentives and a load of land up north, but it would be pretty rough to purchase enough for a park that can maintain the same level of privacy of the Florida property. Plus, a lot of the prime land is being snatched up every day by new growth. Frisco was a cow town 10 years ago and now look at it.

I'm in my 30's and I was a wee one during the 80's - so that's the first I heard about that rumor. The Great America one never dies. I was asked about it all the time when I interned for them.

You are an attractive "30's" though! lol

I would love for them to build a new one in Texas, right in the middle of everything! Obviously that is where I am from, so that would be a plus for me!

It would also be good, as the land here is pretty cheap too! I am sure they would do just like they did with WDW, and buy land under dummy corporations!

I remember reading about them building in Texas. I thought it was a cool idea. As it started to break down, and the recent lawsuits in Texas have shown...it doesn't seem disney is actively seeking another city in the continental United States. That said, the pictures of snow on thunder mountain with the boat going past is gorgeous. Be a cool idea...but, I'm too close to sunny Orlando to go anywhere else.

Those rumors pop up every so often. Back in 2008, someone started the rumor that Disney was building a park just outside of Baton Rouge.

Then the rumor changed from Disney to Schlitterbahn.

Turns out....it was a dinky place called Cajun Lagoon, that billed itself as a "water park", but was pretty much just a big hole in the ground that they decided to fill with water and inflatable slides. They didn't even bother putting down concrete to make it an actual pool....they used heavy tarps and ground staples. As a result, they fell apart and one poor kid got a ground staple through his foot. Later that summer, another kid drowned.
And this was all in the first season they opened.

Well, they wouldn't have to make snow for the Christmas party. And Splash could be turned into a toboggan ride during the winter. That 50 foot drop would be awesome on ice. Yeah, I know, moving water doesn't freeze easily, but it's Wisconsin!

Not that I expect a Disney park in the Midwest, but in Wisconsin tornadoes aren't all that frequent... although that comes from me who went through two tornadoes in the same night last summer. Hurricanes in WDW would be a bigger concern than tornadoes in Wisconsin IMO.

We haven't had a hurricane in Florida since 2005. So don't jinx us.
