A crowded Mardi Gras week :(

I have a feeling it's going to be crowded the week of Mardi Gras :( .
Someone I know, who is going and is staying at Pop Century called to see if she could get one more room and was told that it is completely sold out. So they moved to Old key West (2 bedroom villas)
This is a drag..

Mardi Gras is also the Tuesday after the Super Bowl in Jacksonville.

It is within the realm of possibility that people would combine the two events.

Isn't the 500 the following weekend? I seem to recall that it is around Valentine's Day.

It looks like crowds will be much bigger than originally expected. They have extended MK hours for the week. I just got this update from another board:

Spectromagic: February 5, 7, 12

Wishes:2,3,4,5 (8:00PM),6,7 (8:00PM), 8,9,10,11 (9:00PM) - All other times 7:00 PM.

I have to change my itinerary now.

Eh, I wouldn't worry about it.

Remember - Not everyone that stays at a Disney Resort, goes to the Disney Parks (especially the Value Resorts). If the Daytona 500 is that week, there will be a lot of people staying at any hotel room they can get.

Also - There is a dance competition that week. All Stars and Pop Century are the resorts that get all of those competitions.

Don't worry - It won't be any more crowded than it usually is that time of year. Now, if you wait until Presidents Week - Good luck. :hammer:

I was there last year for mardi gras and it wasn't that busy. Last year it was also peak season. This year mardi gras is value season, I'm not too worried about the crowds, just hope I get to see the i'm going to disney world parade after the super bowl. In case you don't know it's also chinese new year on wed, i think, stop by china in epcot and say happy new year

I can't think of the chinese phrase right now, if I find it i'll post it.
It sould start to get busier starting on the 12th since park hours are being extended and this is the begining of president's week and most NJ schools have a week off then.

The dance competitions are usually done over the weekend, so it would only affect that weekend's attendance. But the superbowl, geez. One year I made the unfortunte choice to take a vacation when a superbowl was in Tampa. It was a bad choice, as the parks were packed the days before and after the superbowl. Hope thats not the case for your trip.

We are going from Feb 11 to 20...will we see large crowds? We planned this time because its usually fairly average...not high, not low. Any ideas?

President's Day is Monday, Feb. 21st. The 19th and 20th will be very busy as a result. The rest of your time looks ok.

okay...thanks! I feel much better now! The 19th we are just randomly wandering about, riding last minute rides, buying last minute things. The 20th is nothing...we have to be at the airport by 10 AM so we will prolly eat breakfast at either Boatwright's Dining Hall or some other resort (we are doing lots of resort dining...we want to see as much as we can! lol) so the crowd's on the 20th wont affect us much... thanks again!

Just yesterday, I decided to book a trip down during Mardi Gras. I found what Debbie said about rooms to be true. There are few resorts that have rooms for multiple nights available right now, but oddly, I was able to book a room for three nights at an All Stars (only one) at a discounted rate.

I may be wrong, but when I checked the WDW.com site yesterday (1/20), the Magic Kingdom closed at 7:00 p.m. each night in question. Today, the site shows the park is open until 9:00 p.m. with Spectromagic running on Friday and Monday nights. :sohappy: (Still 7:00 p.m. on Sunday)

Yep, it will be a busy time.
