Theme Park Community Understanding Mismatch

Is it just me or does it feel like most people that are even in the theme park community don’t understand the parks and how they operate at all in generalšŸ˜‚

Like you have some posters in the forum that clearly work with the parks and get it, but it feels like their voices are often drowned out.

If the OP means that some people here, for example, want the prices dropped so everyone can get in and have a wonderful time, or that prices keep increasing every year without noticing that in general Disney continues to spend tons of money to improve the parks to make it worthwhile to spend the extra money (or so it seems).

Am I close?

I’m going to go with the bus drivers thing.

More so.

Just in the sense that most people (not even talking about this forum) with theme parks don’t understand the art aspect and certainly have no idea how operations works.

It’s weird because it’s like you almost have these tiers of people in which there’s varying levels of understanding (not the same groupthink opinion but just how things work), but because of the internet now everyone has an equal voice, unless we’re willing to acknowledge that not everyone is equal.

That is positive and negative because it ended gatekeeping and let new voices voice perspectives, but also everyone is now an expert in everything, and I’m not saying you have to work for Disney, but I think you get what I’m trying to get at.

Sometimes the ā€œexpertsā€ do get things wrong like with Star Wars, so I’m not referring to the company or a specific mindset and more just at least first getting how the industry works to then make statements.

If there was some sort of checklist of understanding before people talked about a subject that would be interesting, though obvious that results in censorship, so I wouldn’t advocate for that, just a thought experiment.

I mean, this is also an accurate assessment of parts of the community toošŸ˜‚

For me, after a while it's clear that some posters are just enjoying being negative or spout opinions without merit or backing... and when there's a consistent pattern of that I put them on ignore. As a result, the people I do see are generally a better and healthier way to spend my reading time. Is that censorship, or just curating?

I've learned a lot about theme parks in general here (and in other forums and sources) and I find it fascinating and informative and it makes each trip I take to a park that much more enjoyable. I guess I create my own tiers and try to use what's presented here (and elsewhere) as an opportunity to learn and grow.

I guess that's my answer to tiers and groupthink and censorship. I just avoid those people whose content is a net negative.

Such is life on any forum. Otherwise membership would be limited to staff only.

Absolutely true, but it’s worth carrying that understanding.

I think a lot of us forget that.

Doesn’t mean people’s opinions aren’t valid, but you see a lot of takes that immediately are predicated on a false premise.

Can’t unsee it when you see it haha.

Most posters understand that discussions are usually just personal opinions; some may have more validity than others. But a discussion should consist of personal thought, perhaps with a link or quote - not AI, which makes those "opinions" less valid, IMO.
