Price tags? If you know disney they will do anything to make a buck and people will literally buy anything. hehe

This was talked in detail in the other thread:
Are these archive or destroy tags on the Piggy and rat statues?

Good catch!! I missed that haha.
From the BTMR thread, the lighter green/yellow tags means preserve. Red would mean demo.
So safe to say the Piggy and other statues are gonna be saved and archived.

Part of me is hoping its just because Villians just opened there so it's not "Well Villians was only here for like a month before re-installing MuppetVision over here", but the more realistic part of my brain feels like it's because they're not relocating it and MV3D is just gone forever. The thing I don't get about relocating to Sunset: if that is the plan then why wouldn't they just announce that to begin with? The fact that Muppets are taking over RnRC, and that they announced both at the same time, suggests they knew closing MuppetVision would be an unpopular move with fans.
If they're going to bring back MV anyway, why not just say that at the outset?
I'm just glad tens of people out there might be able to see it on their Apple Vision Pros!I just hope it’s not only going to be preserved though VR. As someone who doesn't have a VR headset and doesn’t plan on buying one, hopefully the show will be watchable in another format.

Agreed. Even if all the AA’s aren’t available- there would be digital options if needed. While this show has a little more going on with specific in-theater effects, I don't think there's a lot that would make it overly challenging to bring back for a retro "limited run" some years down the road
Captain EO had in theater effects they didn’t bother to restore. The conceptual intent for the in-theater effects is done, but there would still have to be some significant design work to bring them to another venue.Captain EO was gone forever until it wasn't.

Even if they're not planning on it today, the hard work (aka money) for this one was done decades ago so it can be pulled off the shelf in a pinch when they need to do something cheap that'll make people happy and that means there will always be hope.
I mean, this isn't like trying to restore the original The Journey Into Imagination ride setup or anything.
They did but it was a pretty early version of "4D".Captain EO had in theater effects they didn’t bother to restore. The conceptual intent for the in-theater effects is done, but there would still have to be some significant design work to bring them to another venue.
Between the animatronics (Penguins, Statler/Waldorf, Chef, Bean) and Sweetums, I’d have to assume that bringing this back is going to be much more expensive than Disney is willing to pay. If they don’t already have plans to move it somewhere, I think it’s going to Defunctland or VR.Obviously, to redo this show in another venue would take some work/effort. I'm not suggesting they could just load up a 3D movie on an appropriate screen and call it a day.
Disney Dan brought up a great point in his video on the closure: The Villains show theater has two theater boxes on either side of the stage with screens in them, and the walls of the theater (at least the walls around the stage and half of the side walls) have screens as well. They could easily put Muppet*Vision back as a screen-only version, with the animatronics being screens and such. Not sure what you'd do for the penguins or Sweetums, though. New screen segment under the main screen for the penguins, and maybe overlaying Sweetums on the screens on the wall or Penguin orchestra screen? But if Disney doesn't scrap the animatronics, it is really that expensive to reinstall them? Can't be any more expensive than developing an entire new show like Villains, TLM, or the upcoming Monsters Inc show. I have zero knowledge on budgets though.Between the animatronics (Penguins, Statler/Waldorf, Chef, Bean) and Sweetums, I’d have to assume that bringing this back is going to be much more expensive than Disney is willing to pay. I don't doubt it's possible. I even suggested as much (digital) back when discussing the longevity of the Liberty Square show and how they "could" do a digital version in the windows and it still be believable. Then everyone got in a huffy... how dare I take away a performance from the puppeteers. lol But I do wonder if the show wouldn't still exist today had they gone that route, a simple flip of the switch with a single live performer interacting with the screens.Disney Dan brought up a great point in his video on the closure: The Villains show theater has two theater boxes on either side of the stage with screens in them, and the walls of the theater (at least the walls around the stage and half of the side walls) have screens as well. Also, I'm willing to bet Disney does a DCA PhilharMagic and the MuppetVision theater will be entirely the same for the Monsters Inc show going there, just with Muppet decor removed and the theater box curtains closed, animatronics or their components still sitting there.

The same could be said for MV3D, I guess but it'd lose so much more of it's character. They do have the capabilities, using various techniques where they could still have each balcony box in a believable 3D space (without glasses) should they go digital... but I don't really see the upside unless the goal is to either shorten the show or construct it quicker. I don't see why they couldn't still use the AAs. (At minimum, still using Statler and Waldorf)
Of the many AAs however, I suspect the Penguin Orchestra and Swedish Chefs would be the first to go in any hypothetical redo. I don't think installation of those would be possible in the Sunset space, or if possible not worth Disney's time/resources to add them back. For those instances I do see a digital version being used. Or in the case of the Penguins, possibly not used at all.
Something to consider in any case. I just wonder if the fandom would accept those changes or anything short of the original. Personally, I wouldn't mind a MV3D lite if it meant bringing the show back. The other caveat being how to re-add the 4D practical effects.
I'm a hairy dude, they can pay me in churros to run around yelling "BUNNYYYYY!!!!!" all dayIf they save the AA’s I don’t think they are terribly difficult to install. Sweetums can be added digitally or…. Heaven forbid they continue to pay a CM for the role! Haha
The only issue with scrapping the penguins entirely from the show is that it'd make some of the bits not make sense- like when Kermit says "That's you, penguins" or the whole sequence with the cannon. I think a screen at the bottom of the main screen would be feasible, or they put them on the main screen and set the 3D movie back, like fake depth. I dunno. It's possible to do a screen-heavy version of the show, but it's like... is it still the same? I'd argue no, not really. The show just isn't the same without the physical effects around you. The fact the theater destruction is mostly a practical effect using layers of scrims to hide the destroyed bits is an insane feat of special effects, and add the AAs and 4D effects on top of that and it's truly a special immersive experience. Flat screens replacing everything physical would be cheaper, but at the cost of what actually made the show special. I'd take it, of course, but I think them just reusing the assets they already have would be better in the long run. Turn Sunset Showcase into a permanent home for Muppet-related shows, no more rotating shows in that space. Then they could shell out the budget to put bubble machines and fiber optic fireworks and all that.I don't doubt it's possible.
