We go to both, but see the value in shifting more towards Universal. We don't visit Sea World though, so I understand what you're saying that it just doesn't appeal to you. While I don't mind the advice, I am honestly confused by people who come a Disney message board, and make suggestions about going to someplace other than Disney.
I mean if I want to see the Red Sox play, and i am on a Red Sox message board, what does it matter to me what the prices are for yankee game, or a blue jays game. That's not what i like nor want to spend money on.
I don't care about prices at Universal vs Disney, just like I don't care about prices of the ballet or Cedar Point as it compares to Disney. I am a Disney fan, and enjoy going to Disney, and seeing Mickey, and the castle, and haunted mansion, ect. While I am a HP fan and wouldn't mind seeing some of the areas there, no one else in my family could care about it, or have ever read the books/see the movies.
Value is completely subjective. You could give me tickets to Circ de Solie for free, and i would still pay my 10K for a week at Disney, because I am not a fan of Circ de Solie. If its not something i want to see, I don't care about how "great a deal." it is. It's not like i am buying stock here or investing and looking for appreciation of an objective ROI. The only question that matters to a Disney fan is the price i am paying to go to Disney, worth it to me to go Disney, not that I could spend less or more someplace else.
When it comes to WDW vs. Universal though, they are more of a direct compare, IMO. I the past, WDW was always better, but where WDW has slipped in quality, Universal has improved. Universal wins on price, ease of touring, and customer service.
IMO, it is some of the little customer service details that used to make WDW exceptional, but mostly those have slipped away. On our most recent visits, we splurged for a few TS meals, and the food quality was just lousy.
One that still upsets me was a character meal just a few months ago. We didn't personally care about seeing the characters all that much, but the table next to us had two young girls in costume there to celebrate a birthday. Sadly, the character they came to see couldn't be bothered to do her job, and missed the birthday girl! She was crying, and asking why the princess didn't want to see her. At a meal that costs $70+ pp.
That kind of sloppy service was beyond unacceptable, IMO.
