Question about finding a good agent to help us plan Disney trip!

My family (myself, wife, 6 year old girl, and 10 year old boy) are planning our first Disney trip.
Brand new to Disney and everyone here. Everyone has advised that Disney is the one place where a good Disney planner/agent is strongly advised, but I have zero idea of how to find the best one out there.
The only thing I think I am set on is staying at the Polynesian as it’s what my research showed that I think we would be the happiest with.
Any advice on how to find a great travel agent or even what should I avoid when looking for one?

Ok but I really don’t know much about Disney at all. The only conclusion I have come to is that I want to stay at the Polynesian resort.
It’s my understanding that a good Disney agent can help curate your trip… give tips…. Suggestions… and possibly help you find the best deals. Am I wrong?

Any pros and cons over the others? How do you pick what you think would be the best agent for you?
Any of them go above and beyond???

Er yes. Their agents are well trained and know Disney. They often have good promotions too.

Yes, I think you’re wrong. It’s a theme park. Do you want tips like, don’t miss Space Mountain, drink a lot of water, and pick up a guide map in front of the park?

A Dis trip has changed dramatically from years ago. Long ago one could go with no experience and have a good time. Now there are so many details to contend with that if you dont know what you are doing it will dramatically affect whether you have a successful trip or not. Yes I agree that there is a whole mess of planning sites and a couple of good guide books to help you along but for especially a first timer even with referring to those you can miss out on a lot. Its very different once youve gone a time or two and have some idea of what you will be encountering.
A good Dis agent has been multiple times, knows all the ins and outs, can help structure your trip to what you want it to be and is available to you as you are on the trip to assist you if issues arise. Agents will help you find the deals when they are offered. You find the good ones by referring to those on this site and by getting good references from others who have utilized them before.
Those who say you dont need an agent may be fine for them but if you dont have the confidence that you can do it by yourself, ( and it sounds like that) then go with an agent for your peace of mind. The follow up trip may be one that you can navigate it all by yourself.

You are correct. A good agent is going to watch for any discounts and they are going to help you with dining and anything else that you need for your trip.

Here's the last official WDW vacation planning video Disney put out, it's from 2017 so very out dated but it's still a great start if you know absolutely nothing about WDW.


The official Disney World website also lets you book everything in one place, Disney hotel, tickets and flights all in one place. If you want to do Universal and SeaWorld then just buy the tickets directly from their official websites separately.

If you like books then these two are the best:
Birnbaum's 2025 Walt Disney World: The Official Vacation Guide ($17 on Amazon)
The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2024 ($25 Amazon)

I also recommend you join another forum called 'TheDibb', whilst WDWMagic is great, it's more geared to general discussion about the parks and news and rumours whereas TheDibb is more strictly about trip planning specifically.

Not everyone is comfortable in planning their own trip and that is where we come in. Some people are extremely comfortable because they’ve been there numerous times. Disney is very overwhelming for someone who is new and you have to take that into account and others do not have the time to do all of this research. That is another reason why they come to us because we already have the answers.
