MK Cars-Themed Attractions at Magic Kingdom

That was me. Disney calls out nine franchises in their 10Q’s and Cars was last in the top nine in 2022, when Stitch overtook its spot in 2023.

The combo of tracking the 10Q and these very recent comments from Deadline would lead me to believe Cars is now either 10th or 11th. The other franchise frequently mentioned but not currently in Disney’s 10Q is Lion King. Knowing that just had a 2024 film entrant, it’s possible Cars has fallen to 11th. But either way the revenue is both beyond its prior peak, but also not insignificant.

The reckless priorities of the company that they feel they need a Cars attraction warrants this effort, would be the third clue the revenue remains still significant.

So clearly there remains a perennial audience to this franchise even if it’s hay day is over.

Old conversation we were having, but I just wanted to follow up that Cars was the 6th most streamed kids movie last year at 5.2B minutes streamed. This was in a very similar bracket to Moana (5.8B minutes streamed) and Frozen (5.5B minutes streamed). Across all platforms.

So clearly there remains a perennial audience to this franchise even if it’s hay day is over.

K-Pop Demon Hunters had a massive lead followed by Moana 2 and Despicable Me 4.

Lilo and Stitch, Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Lion King, Moana, all need rides in addition to what we’re getting.

You can start to see why they don’t see the value in non-IP as much, their catalogue is just too deep and that is just Walt Disney Animation’s mega popular ones. I mean, you could just as easily have a Mulan ride.

Villains Land is basically IP from a lot of movies despite it being an original concept.

But they only use IPs that are popular right now, and have a habit of reusing the same ones over and over again. Two Frozen attractions, three Beauty and the Beast attractions, two Little Mermaid attractions...

I think my main issue is the reuse of the same old IPs while ignoring others as it makes people who love specific films or stories feel forgotten.

Agree, although there's a change they'll remove that, plus with Abu Dhabi DL on the way we will likely get a proper E ticket for Aladdin there. but anywho I think its crazy they didn't milk the Disney renaissance more. Say what you will about Iger and Eisner, but Iger did for the most part capitalize on the current IP's while Eisner never did (for what was at the time current Ip's)

I don't disagree. Personally want best of both worlds. Someone who capitalizes on the current moment and stories but also enjoyed the parks and is flummoxed by why people liked them as anything more than advertising.

no no, meant I want someone who understands why people love the parks and doesn't use them as a way to advertise but also someone who intergrates stories that are popular

That was my frustration as a Disney kid in the 90s-2000s. I wanted to see the new movies get rides not the old stuff. It shows how much our perception changes with age.

IMO Eisner was more supportive of live action IPs so its less noticeable that he supported using IPs as advertising too. But he was more favorably to original IPs too.

Eisner was part of making the studio pay for big spectacles like entire parades. It wasn’t some favorites game. A good movie isn’t always the best basis for an attraction.

You really aren't going to be able to tell what's park worthy until it has proved itself as successful and timeless before forcing an attraction into construction. WDI was betting in the late 80s that we would still be talking about Roger Rabbit in 30 years and the marketing department promoted him heavily in the MGM marketing material. You can see how well that dated.
