DAK 'Encanto' and 'Indiana Jones'-themed experiences at Animal Kingdom

But as @lentesta so beautifully pointed out, from the man himself, the themes of DAK absolutely will be serviced by Tropical Americas and the IP's they have chosen to include in it.

And heck, for once we are getting a land not stuck with just one IP.

This is a win people.
The man himself also connected Chester and Hester’s Dino-Rama to the themes of the park. Frankly, I’m less interested in hearing Rhode sell an idea than I am the people who are second in command (or in this case, now actually in charge). That’s where things get interesting because Joe is a unique talent at communicating.

New Dinosaur merch just dropped.

I need the pin. I've been looking for a Dinosaur pin on my visits in the last couple years to no success. :(

Sorry, I didn’t read through all the pages in this thread. But someone already made the missed opportunity to have these say countdown to extinction, right?

Also sorry if this has come up, but will the tropical area have animals native to that region? I don’t remember ever seeing anything in the official announcement about that.

No animal exhibits, as far as anyone can tell. The one small crocodile enclosure, which barely amounted to anything anyway, has no equivalent in the new plans. Would be kind of cool if they moved Winged Encounters into the land, though.

No plans for any animals unfortunately, unless they add a small enclosure like the Crocodile that was in Dinoland. It's not known the exact reason, but it's probably a mixture of money and proximity of Tropical Americas to the parking lot, which was why Dinoland and Beastly Kingdom were designed to be at the front of the park, and the main animal exhibits (Kilimanjaro Safaris, Gorilla Falls & Maharajah Jungle Trek) are located towards the back of the park

Some pics I grabbed today (7/18) from the Boneyard. Also paid my respects for the play area.

That’s such a bummer. One of the characters in the movie’s gift is even the ability to speak to animals.

Idk if this would be possible, but maybe if Disney wants to implement live animals into this land, maybe they can have an animal handler come out with say a Toucan and show it off to guests and maybe give facts about Toucans?

That or they should do a Capybara Parade where a bunch of Capybaras go on a parade throughout Pueblo Esperanza or something lol

I visited AK on the first full day of my trip two weeks ago today, and I paid my respects to my one-time GOAT attraction, Dinosaur. It was in a sorry state. I still had a blast on it, but riding it for the first time in 8 years, I realized that it wasn't the gold-standard attraction for me anymore.

It's funny how they can let something slip into disrepair and it changes your opinion on whether or not the ride should stay...but the fact is, the ride isn't as good as it used to be. It deserves more. When I rode it for the first time in the mid-2000s, I was blown away by how incredible it was. It was a slow decline, with a huge freefall between my last two visits.

If IJAK can improve on Dinosaur at its best, and it doesn't seem forced into AK, I'll be okay with this. But I'll always mourn the loss of what was once a top-tier attraction...unfortunately, I'm already mourning it before it's gone.

I had the same experience with my last trip over to TSI to say goodbye... it was in terrible shape (except for the Fort)... If it has been in that sort of shape for years, it is understandable why people don't love it the way I did. It was an amazing place to explore when I was a kid...But it appears they have been letting it go for quite a while...I guess knowing they were going to probably remove it in a few years...because the neglect was years old.

I'll just say: Be thankful this is the current state of Dinosaur. If you had gone a year ago, two years ago. . . woah boy it was dire. I'm glad you got to see it one more time though.

Hopefully also because they intend to keep the park open later, with this area a key element of supporting the park being open later and they want to keep animals away from where the park is open later to not mess with their schedules

As others have mentioned, would be nice if they have an area for animal handlers to bring animals by during the day, not not a habitat for them to stay

I agree that this new area, coupled with Pandora, is Disney’s push to make this an all day park. Additionally, both lands also provide for nice dry indoor attractions, along with the new Zootopia Show, for bad weather days.

Their one shortcoming is Harambe. You need more than streetmosphere and a Lion King show to draw people to this area of the park after dark. Not to mention the one big dining location is a buffet. This area basically hours to bed after dark, and that needs to change if they want this to be an all day trek for families. They need another indoor E-ticket attraction here. Something that will draw people over at night.

And I like your idea of having animals brought into the land to show people. Obviously, this side of the park was never set up to house and care for animals, and no way was the company going to pay for that in today’s Disney (unfortunately).

And of course regarding the elephant in the room is coming up with a night time show that is beautiful, inspiring, creative, but most importantly, one that is reliable.

I don't see how changing one ride from a flat coaster to a dark ride makes DAK a nighttime-too park without also bringing back a night show at the lake.

I do hope a night time show comes too and it becomes almost a relaunch of the park.

I just really like the vibe of the park at night - with the musical acts and various places for adult beverages ... Just want the park open later and am trying to will it to happen lol

It’s a really lovely park at night. Tree of life was by far the best use of projections I’ve seen. Looked like true magic!
In the winter/spring months, we enjoy hopping in the FOP line at park close so by the time we exit the ride the park is plenty dark and empty. Pandora is beautiful and it's also a nice time to go get some Tree of Life pics
