Does that mean there shouldn’t be more?

The point isn’t to have a ton of 100% static figures everywhere. It’s to have some more naturalistic animals littered about who are doing basic things that add to the visual interest of the scenery. You could have cranes simply leaning down every once in a while to drink water or a family of frogs with animated eyelids or projected eyes, perhaps with two in the back that alternate hopping repetitively to the beat at set intervals.

I would prefer this to the previous suggestion that the existing scenes be spread out and re-composed.

Yes, that would probably be fine/better. I was talking strictly about static figures like the Armadillo near the end of the ride, or the Louis early on who's stuck looking in a hole or something without any movement. It just feels super cheap.

Agree. That’s why I’m not sure that the newer imagineers (or at least the ones working on TBA) understand the psychology behind all this. Sometimes less is more. Having some of the critters homes or other place making is much better than static figures just for the sake of throwing a character somewhere. Ok you had the idea for a cute scene with Louis getting stuck but if it’s not executed properly you’re better off not having it all. Considering it’s the very beginning and outdoor portion of the ride it’s completely unnecessary.

This one is weird to me because it’s super easily fixable, at least in my mind. Eliminate the unconvincing swaying vegetable stalks and instead make the wheelbarrow he’s under move back and forth a little bit. Affix his hand to the underside of the wheelbarrow facing guests to make it look like he’s jiggling it slightly. It would probably both draw more attention to it and make the figure look less static. The textural inconsistency of the character is also an issue, but that’s easily addressed with a new finish.

Properly working, this isn’t a terrible attraction.

Key words properly working.

But having it as a replacement increased its bell curve for expectations
I agree. I think there is a lot of charm. I just wish the story was more cohesive. Like why are we being shrunken down to the size of a bug or frog to hear a band no one can apparently hear when we are returned to our full size. Like what? The “story” is cute but like many rides recently it feels as if there are no stakes and no tension and that makes not only for an exciting ride but would also match the giant drop this ride is known for. You can tell Splash worked backwards from the drop and made a story that revolved around that. This story ignores the drop to its own detriment.

The entire climax of the ride is a disaster, beyond the complete lack of suspense. We're supposedly in a salt mine during that main drop, right? But there's NOTHING to indicate that on the inside? Then how does Mama Odie get from her magical window or whatever to the little alcove at the top? They're like 20 seconds apart and arein a straight line. Splash Mountain handled that far better, by having the two scenes spread much farther apart (more than double the time, in fact), plus a complete tonal change to truly make them feel like separate scenes.

If that’s what you’re thinking about on that ride, I don’t know how to help you have fun.

Just rode Tiana for the first time and the ride video disney released before opening truly didn't do it justice. This ride needs sone serious help. I know Disney has cheaped out on attractions as of late but this is ridiculous. Huge portions of the ride with nothing to see. Mediocre effects throughout when there is something to see. Soundtrack really needs something else. Usually I don't like to see movie tunes reused but maybe they should think about it this case.

I thought I could at least accept the change no matter the theme just based on the great ride system but this is just a disaster.

You forgot to add in the fact that the mediocre attraction is rarely working at 100% or even close.

I mean, it's hard not to compare when what existed before was so great. It's clear this ride didn't have nearly as much thought or care put into it as its predecessor.
It’s a log flume ride with different decorations than it had before. The new ones are more modern, more relevant, and more layered (with the screens.) The queue is detailed and sets the story. I never followed a story with SM, just oh, look - there’s a rabbit, there’s a bear.

I enjoyed something different, had a ball riding it, could have had clearer sound when Tiana was speaking.

When people exited, it was all excited chatter about who got how wet, not a critique of the storyboard.
I brought it up because you said the theming was mindless and boring. A lot of people disagree with that and enjoy the attraction.

Wow, I'm really diving into this discussion! Is there a lifeguard? Here goes!

My main issue is that mushroom scene; it feels empty with just 3D screens of Tiana and Louis, with long stretches of nothing.

Personally, I loved the adrenaline STRESSFUL / SCARY rush of Splash Mountain as you climbed that hill, especially right before the drop, and the joyful ending with Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah always made me feel so happy. We did it! We survived! HUZZAH!

With that said, I get that some guests might find that buildup scary. Which is probably why Disney went for a more whimsical climb with Mama Odie. And speaking of nostalgia, remember Food Rocks? I think they could've tapped into that with more h veggie animatronics.
