WDW is the state's largest single site employer.
Publix is the state's largest employer.

I should have said WDW is one of the most important entities in Florida, as I don't know the exact details to declare anything as definitively being the most important.

I will add though, that it's more than being the largest employer. WDW drives tourism. There are a great many businesses and people whose livelihoods benefit from the impact WDW has beyond just it's direct workforce and customer base.

If WDW wasn't there, would Universal even exist in Florida? Would we be looking forward to their third gate if WDW wasn't there to attract a lot of the people who also spend time at the other theme part resorts?

Yes, but who says "I'm going to Florida, I can't wait for the Publix!", "I'm traveling thousands of miles to Publix!", "First visit to #publix" etc.
Publix brings in exactly zero tourism for the state, which means comparatively low amounts of money for the state and other local businesses, and honestly, nobody's first thought when they think of Florida is Publix. However, all these things are true about WDW. They said most important, not largest

Getting back to the topic at hand, there appears to no longer be any animus between the Governor/CFTOD and Disney. The Governor is not likely to appoint himself Senator--he doesn't want it. Who he appoints to Senate is up to him and has no bearing on his relation with Disney.

That was already clear when the governor of Florida decided to wage war against what is arguably the state's most important partner/asset/employer in the form of WDW.

He was willing to harm the state because he thought it would benefit him personally.

A majority of his constituents seem fine with this, so there's really no downside for him. They're loyal to a fault.
RCID was a super sweet deal for Disney made by Walt Disney himself. The state leadership at that time was smart enough to TAKE THE DEAL and the rest is history. TWDC helped the state in so many ways its impossible to measure, so it was smart for the state leadership to TAKE THE DEAL.

There is no doubt now RCID was controlled by TWDC I have personal knowledge of this, RCID employees were treated in some ways better than cast members by TWDC.

Over the years the thought of dissolving RCID was always there and AT ANY TIME the state could have taken away what it had given TWDC so many years ago, but the leadership SMARTLY until now, let it be.

The Gov indeed did it for all the wrong reasons, and did this damage the relationship between TWDC and Florida? A HUGE YES. But it is not wrong that RCID did someday need to be replaced by what is now CFTOD. It should have been done in a better way. - in my opinion.

I don't have to. In the civilized parts of the country, there's one available with a short drive. (Not just in Florida)

We do however enjoy it when yall leave lots of money, but leave to enjoy life wherever you visit from with it's own ideas of what living a good life looks like.

And to be clear, Publix most assuredly has a fandom. You would be amazed how long some people can go on about Bakery or Deli Counter Confidential.

I’m not joking.

Don't forget Wednesday nights are social nights in many Publixes near college campuses.
