Honestly if it weren't for the music playing, the signage in French (Shop, cafe) pool name, food, portraits and film posters in their French Italian versions, then you wouldn't think it's French or Italian or European at all. They can easily change it to British just by changing the signage, portraits and music. 🖌I saw a few pictures on the walls...but nothing felt like it was from the European Riviera...It felt pretty unthemed to me...espcially the lobby and public areas...The rooftop Restaurant is just modern...
so, no I don't get that they were trying to do theme at all... just nice hotel...
What were the French and Italian things you saw?
Disney doesn't state which part of the regions The Riviera is built after. So no I can't answer that region. The European riviera atmosphere what it brings can be different to everybody. Not sure how this fell back into the Riviera debate, but, you can't say it could be anything to you. You said everything there is Italian and French. I don't think it's out of line to ask that you provide examples of some of the things that are indeed Italian and French.
