News New Polynesian Resort DVC villas building to open 2024

Instead of building these Indiscriminate hotels, it would have been cool if WDW would have built highly themed unique Hotels like what was proposed in the early renderings.

I know, I know, today is not about theme, its about MAKING MONEY!

That's what everyone said when they built the Riviera.... and then it was done... and it still looked like a chain hotel...and had nothing to do thematically with anything in the area....and didn't really have a theme itself...unless it was Marriot Hotels USA

I saw a few pictures on the walls...but nothing felt like it was from the European Riviera...It felt pretty unthemed to me...espcially the lobby and public areas...The rooftop Restaurant is just modern...
so, no I don't get that they were trying to do theme at all... just nice hotel...

Agreed.. you have to be there in person a couple times to recognize it's personality. Even then some people may like it other's not.

Not sure how this fell back into the Riviera debate, but, you can't say it could be anything to you. You said everything there is Italian and French. I don't think it's out of line to ask that you provide examples of some of the things that are indeed Italian and French.

I'm not asking how it would "resinate" with me. I'm asking what YOU see as being inspired by parts of the Italian and French Rivieras. I'm guessing that you've been to those areas and can connect them to something in Disney's Riviera Resort?

In the Daytime to me "wherever you are it feels nothing really except that your in Walt Disney World."

In the Evening though everything changes, looking at the outside standing in the lobby you see inside outside lit up it's rich, chic, elegance, like Cannes or Nice in South of France Blue Coast. Or near the Mediterranean Coastal Sea..

"Daytime and Nighttime is a totally different experience to me".

I understand that the building theme could of been more elaborate on the level of Grand Floridian and Grand Destino in aww.

It's just if someone is going to say this place is has nothing of theme or style then is not necessarily true.

Polynesian DVC is a much more problem because it's fighting territory to be going by the same theme of the Polynesian even though right now it's a monster of an eyesoar and we don't know if it will ever blend in.

Thank you for providing some perspective. I'm not seeing Cannes in Riviera. There's a hint of the Casino Negresco from Nice. I would have liked to see a waterside pathway that was reminiscent of the Promenade des Anglais with some of the vibrant night scene you would find there. I don't see any Italian influences that reflect Cinque Terre or Portofino.

But what disappointed us the most was the view of Caribbean Beach's property from Riviera. This from a company that once took great care to conceal any views of the Contemporary from Main Street USA and painted show buildings in EPCOT the same shade of blue as the Florida sky so that they were less noticeable. And sadly it appears that the Polyday Inn will continue in the same vein as Riviera.

Wait, what’s the issue here? Is there a backstage view of Caribbean Beach from the Riviera that looks especially bad? You’ve always been able to see the resorts from one another whether their themes meshed or not, especially around the Seven Seas Lagoon and Crescent Lake.

It's the proximity of CBR that ruins the ambiance. Riviera was literally built on what was originally CBR property. At least at Crescent Lake, every Disney resort has an Atlantic beach theme that carries from one resort to the next. At the Seven Seas Lagoon, the resorts were not built on top of each other until the GF DVC building went up and even so, you don't see obvious views of Poly from it, nor do you see VGF from your Poly room. But sit on the balcony of your Riviera room and you're likely to be looking directly out on colorful buildings and rooftops that represent the Caribbean, not the Mediterranean.

You can compare a bit the Polynesian DVC Tower eyesoar from a distance with the Wedding Pavilion and Grand Floridian to this.. not as extreme as Polynesian Tower.

Now that I think about it, Disney originally wanted twice to bring an all Italian full on themed luxurious resort on seven seas lagoon same site when after they canceled it then was the site plan there for Disney's Mediterranean Resort. Can you imagine had they built The Mediterranean they could of built if they could've across from it The Riviera there and then you'd get the views of The Mediterranean. Viola !"

The Riviera would of looked Grander in ways to match The Grand Floridian. Even if back then when Disney knew how to build grand transportive resorts maybe an example like this would of blended better with Caribbean Beach by the more green lush colors, gardens...than Gray Riviera.

At least at Crescent Lake, every Disney resort has an Atlantic beach theme that carries from one resort to the next.

I am guessing the "Disney" wording is trying to conveniently avoid Swan & Dolphin looming on the horizon.

At the Seven Seas Lagoon, the resorts were not built on top of each other until the GF DVC building went up and even so, you don't see obvious views of Poly from it, nor do you see VGF from your Poly room.

You can absolutely see the other resorts and the Magic Kingdom from many lagoon-view rooms. That I can see a castle, a modern A-frame, and a Victorian hotel from the beach of the Polynesian does not kill the ambience for me. The actual problem is just that the Riviera is kind of ugly and half-done.
