For some those few extra bucks means a difference. People scrimp and save for years to do a Disney Trip. They can't do a lot about tick prices, hotel costs they can try to downgrade to affordable, and use Disney transportation for everything but $4 a bottle of soda is a outsized extra cost they can control or snacks for the family they bring vs a paddle pop for 5 people. Those in park costs do add up for some people that means something to their personal financial situation, that doesn't mean as much or can just be absorbed into "Costs of a Disney Trip" for other people.

So drink water at the fountains.

The water is pretty gross. I would fill a water bottle and add some flavoring (I could fit several even in a tiny purse) to it. I could also fit a few snacks in a typical tote bag. It never even occurred to me to drag a cooler around; even when my children were small the largest "cooler" I brought was one of those insulated bags used to bring lunches to school/work.

Yes, and there also small bottles with built in filters available now - some with a freezable ice core.

This just in...Hotel and gate shops now selling insta ice packs for twice as much as the real world.
Does this surprise anyone, add this to the list of over priced Mickey bars ($5.75), Pretzels ($7.00), water ($3.50), soda ($4.50) etc. If there is a way for Disney to squeeze another dime out of the guests they will think of it.

This is from the Mom's Panel;

The new ice rule is meant to streamline the bag-check and entry processes. You can use something small like a sandwich or one-gallon freezer bag, but we do not recommend bringing anything larger than that, as you may now be asked to dump it prior to entry. Please know that, as always, we will work with guests to help make this a smooth transition for all.

OK I get it now. Someone in security is calling the problem "loose ice" which is the situation where they have to stick their hand in a cooler to check for booze and guns. So the term "loose ice" stuck all the way down to the copy. No one in the real world knows what the heck "loose ice" means. Even the Disney Mom's are making stuff up, uh I dunno, 1 gallon size bags should be ok?

That's what the answers on the Disney Park Blog says.

Although, it should go without saying, but I'll say it anyway... the bags of ice should contain just ice. Don't stick, say, candy bars, in the bag with the ice because then you have the problem of security having to stick their hand in it.

The bags should be such that a quick look-over reveals it's just ice. So, I'd go with several smaller zip bags rather than one big one.

You edited out the part of my post where I identified the person answering the question, Lisa Mendillo. She is communications manager at WDW. I don't think she is making anything up.

The water that comes out of the water fountains is not gross. I grew up in the era when everyone drank out of water fountains instead of toting coolers and bottled water to the parks. I still drink the water out of the fountains and it is not gross.

This is the United States of America and the water that comes out of our faucets is not gross. Go to a undeveloped, third world country and you'll get an education on what is gross!

Too many of you are weak! I also suspect that many of you that bring along your ice, coolers, and disposable plastic bottles also claim you're so-called environmentalist too.

I grew up in an area that had wonderful tasting tap water. I've lived in FL for almost 40 years now, and the water is gross. Or perhaps I should have been more specific - it tastes bad, IMO. So I have a filter on my fridge, and bring flavoring if I'm going to fill a water bottle.

And, I have been to 3rd world countries - have my shot record to prove it.

I'm not sure what your point is. Could you clarify?

Are you saying that the water out of the WDW doesn't taste objectionable? Or are you saying that "gross" implies unsafe for drinking? BTW, I did find one report that Florida has the second most violations of the Safe Drinking Water Act of any state. Only Texas was worse. And sadly, Florida did worse than New Jersey. Having lived in all three states, I have to say that, though I am mostly sure my drinking water is safe, it was never good-tasting. We did get many more boil-water alerts in New Jersey (one or two every year) than in Florida or Texas, but that is probably more to do with aging infrastructure than source water contamination.

Also, what does this have to do with environmentalism? And are you using environmentalist as an insult? Lol

Hope your day gets better, as you seem to be in a worse mood than you usually are. Is everything ok with you?

@The Mom, I grew up in Hawaii and the tap water there spoiled me for life. Hated the taste of tap water in California, Florida, Texas, Oklahoma, and New Jersey. The only three places I thought had decent tap water were San Francisco, Boston, and New York City.

Note: It's crazy but you don't even have to travel to a third world country to find tap water that's unsafe to drink. I was astounded that tap water in Beijing and Shanghai was unsafe to drink. I will say that one thing it changes is that I didn't have any iced drinks while I was there.
