Will it be like Riviera, and current legacy DVC owners won’t be able to use points there?
I hear this a lot. Maybe legacy does not mean what I think? I'm a 1991 Old key West member and I absolutely have no problems using my points at Riviera. So what does this mean that legacy DVC owners can't use their point at Rivera???

I always assumed it applied to resale. I know if you buy DVC resale now and not direct through Disney, you cannot use your points at Riviera or anything newer.

The poster has either misunderstood the rules or worded their reply confusingly.

I get that but hotel occupancy is down it seems. Why would they build another hotel?
People keep saying it's down quarter over quarter.

And when there's no evidence of that, they say it's because Disney takes rooms out of inventory. And they say that quarter after quarter.

By now, there must be at least negative ten thousand rooms available.

Maybe it's only for us nostalgia purists, but I would have preferred The River Country Lodge - with that rustic ol' fashioned swimming hole more classic feeling Disney theming - with the obvious nod to it's history/location.

They could get creative/innovative with the water slides as a differentiator.

A missing element is fun. Contemporary, Poly, Boardwalk, even Beachclub all have it - Riveria is nice, but was a step back here and Lakeshore likely continues down this bland path.

I still can’t get over how the Disney River Country Lodge was right there.

River Country made a bit of a round on the internet as "that creepy abandoned Disney park where the music still plays and there was toxic water which may or may not have been deadly". I'm not sure if the people who know it through that outnumber the people who have fond memories, but they might not want to make a direct connection because of that.

(Not defending how bland this is inevitably going to to turn out to be.)

Disney does take rooms out of inventory from time to time, but not at the scale that these forums would like you to believe.

And not for the reasons some on here want people to believe
I can't recall the reasons some on here want to believe, but it truly just comes down to when the resorts are experiencing a slower period, it doesn't make sense to keep buildings in inventory (especially at the campus style resorts), when they could condense staffing.

Maybe if the remaining resorts weren't overpriced and over listed as deluxe, moderate, economy they would have greater occupancy. IMO they do take rooms out of inventory. DVCs are where the money is so that is what Disney goes after. I am not one that is thrilled with the generic high rises- as an old timer I like the old time resort theming to me that is what made Disney special

Some of Disney's deluxe resorts have been rated only 3 diamonds by AAA over the years. Some are 4 diamond, including GF. What I've heard is GF was told they would need a special training program for cast members there to qualify for 5 diamond, lol. To be fair, V&A does get 5 diamond as a restaurant though. But still, for something that expensive to get the same rating as the Disney Springs Hilton used to get....
