I remember the Wilderness Junction plan...that was really lovely and a great idea.
We imported Lights Motors Action from Paris, why not the Wild West Show at Wilderness Junction... a new restaurant, Micro Brewery (Country Bear branded beer and Wilderness Ale) and a few cute shops. It would give that side of the pond a nice lure and a little evening entertainment all in a spot away from the two resorts... but close enough to be relevant.

You know what's funny?
The old Wilderness train was an unexpected and wonderful detail...Such a shame they could not bring it back to link the two resorts and add a little more... That was old Disney... Classic, unexpected and lovely details to make every spot, even the campground a little more special...
It only ran for a few years and was an operational pain in the rear. Track issues all the time. Also, it was an upcharge during most of its short lifespan. You know how much we love those... :hilarious:

Didn't the company employ imagineers to develop and construct the track for that, and none of them having railway experience, they just had to figure it out as they went along? Or is that an urban myth?

I don't know the full details but from what I understand, the track was not put down properly on the clay soil....or the soil as it was just couldn't handle it.

A new resort and the Wilderness Junction addition would be great... Properly lay tracks for a train to link the three resorts over there with a couple restaurants and shops...Get rid of the whole "reflections" concept and do the resort between the two, theme it to Wilderness Junction. The train station and boat launch would make it fun and an interestingly connected place to stay...
there is also much they can do with the theme... if they want to...

@danlb_2000 I'm hearing this might not be dead. Just FYI.
This is the most meta post ever, as it could refer to both this project resurrecting from the grave and this thread. And two days after Easter, no less!

Yup. Mistakes were made. Rather surprising mistakes considering the company's extensive history operating steam locomotive railroad lines. The tracks were not built to the proper standard (yet DL RR and WDWRR were) and hence many derailments happened. Also the steam locomotives had tenders that did not carry enough water (another issue both DL and WDW RRs do not have)

Such is the strange little blip on the radar history of the fort wilderness railroad.
