I don't know why this surprises you. Disney is a for profit company, money grab is why they are in business. Why do people forget that and then act suprised when these things happen. If the money grab could be extended to all year and still work they would do it. It's not a church, or a charity, it a business. If they could make more money by eliminating Mickey Mouse then they would hang him from the castle and call in Samanta Brown to cover it for TV.

It's not a magical playground, it's a business who takes your money and offers you entertainment in return, No different than a movie or a pro sports team. Accepting the reality of the situation will make your life and your view of things a lot less stressful. I recommend that we stop trying to force Disney's round peg into some unrealistic square hole.

(not you specifically, but much of the Disney fan community can use this advice) I for one love Disney, but I love it for what it is. Not what I wished it would be.
I don't think anyone is surprised.

I always avoid the food and drunk festival like a plaque. I really enjoy and love EPCOT but when this thing is ongoing I can't deal with the drunks falling and stumbling into me constantly. I seem to be a magnet for them to fall into me. I enjoy seeing them coming towards me and watching them fall and I step up and over them. (Not exaggerating with the falling down)
Just go during the week its a lot of fun. Just avoid the weekends like the plague.

I am glad they extended it, because we actually get to go this year. Just changed our dates. We go as a family, to sample some good food, desserts. Not on a weekend though! We have been a few times, and never saw the "drunkytown" that people post here. If they want to get drunk, they can do it all year long anyway at EPCOT.

I think adding another week will help spread the crowds. I haven't witnessed the drunk behavior either and we go every year. The weekends can be just as fun too. Its a fun atmosphere but I go with the expectation that it will be packed. I've met many nice people sharing a table around the promenade.

I go every year for the F&WF. It is more then just the food booths around world showcase. There are a lot of seminars and tastings that many people love to do. Almost all of them sell out so adding another week lets more people enjoy them. I do several seminars and events during my stay and I find them informative and a great way to try new things.

Steve tell me why is 2014 Food and Wine Festival will be extended this year? I'm bit Confused?
Disney believe that they can continue to do a lot of business at the World Showcase kiosks for the additional week, so it makes sense for them to do that and increase profit.

We are debating whether to take our trip during Food and Wine this year, how bad do the crowds get for this? Does it effect the crowds at the other parks or just Epcot?
It just gets really bad on the weekends at Epcot. I would avoid Epcot on the weekend if you can. Its really bad, its not enjoyable. I asked the same question here, and people wrote what I said, and I said to myself oh, it cant be THAT bad. I had no choice I went for a girls long weekend trip Thurs-Sun. Thurs and Fri were great. Saturday was awful and we didn't bother to go on Sunday. I personally will never ever go on a weekend ever again. Walking elbow to elbow with people, and lines so long going into the other countries is not enjoyable to me.

How long before F&W is permanent?

Its already moved into Flower and garden, not fully but its there, so you get sept to Nov food and wine
jump into Christmas, take a month off and resume food kiosks at flower and garden from march to may
The only space really left wide open for them to really run into eachother is in the summer...the other parts are pretty much spoken for.
It's obvious its gonna happen, every year each one grows by a day or a few.

I am glad that they are spreading it for that same reason. Maybe the locals will get their fill during the early start and the crowds will moderate later....

(And I *have* seen the drunk behavior. Most notably, a 75 lb woman trying to pick a fight with a 240 lb man who obviously didn't know each other but would have happened if not for the womans companion physically picking her up, carrying her across the path and sat her down on a bench).

Yes the current Mrs Sak is a little feisty when shes had a hello cheeky or two, a bit like a rottweiller.
