The general consensus based on information posted on these forums seems to be that the figures used won't even qualify to be classified as "animatronics". This is both based on what Lee has stated (who has actually seen the figures apparently) along with diagrams shown at D23 of the articulation the figures are capable of, they're just simple moving figures comparable to those in the original Snow White ride and other similar old dark rides. The diagrams were posted in another thread about this ride, but i'll post them again here. Odds are that the ride isn't going to use any sort of impressive figures. Even the original Worlds Fair Carousel of Progress used animatronics capable of far more motion than these diagrams are showing possible (and those were some of the oldest Disney created animatronics ever).
Another worry is that despite the ride being so close to opening (supposedly), we've not heard ANY hype from Disney about the show scenes. Historically Disney has not held back on hyping animatronic figures in their attractions. The Ursula and Ariel figures (among all the other lesser figures) had dedicated blog videos to hype them up months before even the original California version of the ride opened. The Lumiere and Wardrobe animatronics in the rest of New Fantasyland were also teased well before those attractions opened too. If the Mine Train had anything remotely worthy of talking about such as animatronics, we'd almost certainly have seen it already many months before opening. We've probably already seen the best of what the figures will have to offer with the D23 diagrams.
