Disney's Princess Half Marathon Weekend

Why do you think this race has more of these negative aspects than others?
The runners who chose to participate were:
1. Nasty on the buses, at expo, and in corrals, starting conversations with others and putting newbies down.
2. Such negativity online post events yet for reasons they were told to be prepared for. Not being prepared when info is given is not a valid excuse.
3. The term princess itself carries entitlement. Like “I’m a princess, gimme gimme” or “rules don’t apply to me.”

This one makes me “laugh”. I volunteer for the organization that puts on all (but one) of the big races here and more often than not I am at the Info Desk. The number of people who do not read the runner’s guide is astounding.

Part of the fun, part of my race experience, is reading that guide from front to back. It still pains me that Disney’s is electronic! I love me some final race instructions!

OMG yes!!! Give me paper and give me the event guide sooner in advance. I like to visualize my runs, sometimes I like to make a running playlist and knowing the course in advance helps. I think there are several things that rD team could start doing that other larger races do.

@Swissmiss I think a bit of the problem (negativity) with Princess Weekend over the other weekend is it's more of a mix of runners/ newbie runner's/ not runners but there for the medal and photos. Add social media into the mix and then you have a bunch of people complaining about x,y and z.

When everyone’s a Princess, no one is.

Was really excited about the new themes, then I remembered I can’t actually participate because they took away the virtual option.

Anyways:

1.) 5K - Mulan & Shan Yu
2.) 10K - Jasmine & Jafar
3.) Half - Aurora & Maleficent
4.) Fairytale Challenge - Snow White & Evil Queen

Some really cool options here I like the addition of the villains, not that it really matters much for me.

Back for our second go-round!

My wife and I did the Princess Half Marathon last February, and while it was a definite challenge for us both, we absolutely loved it. So, we are back for our second round in 2025. My wife accomplished her goal of finishing the half last year, and that was enough for her, so she signed up for the 10k next year. I am signed up for the Fairytale Challenge so I'll be attempting the 10k and the Half this year.

We have also convinced two good friends to the 10k, as well as my son, my daughter and my future son-in-law. I can't wait!

For me (as a runner NOT as a CM) there are too many "never runners" and running etiquette is WAY out the door. I spent more time weaving around walkers than I cared to. walkers are TO BE EXPECTED with rD weekends but Princess seems to have the most.

I find that running etiquette is out the door in a lot of races 😟

You are right. All races have problems with etiquette.

I will say this: I struggled in the Marathon. I hit a wall around 21. I needed to walk. runDisney says to walk to the right, however, that felt weird as there were so many right turns/cloverleafs/etc and I wanted to yield "the shortest distance" to the runners so I chose to walk on the left/outside. The course was not crowded but I still wanted to yield to the runners. Give them the benefit.

As far as Princess goes, I competed twice over the years with my sister. I do not like this weekend. The problem is the entitled bloggers, spoiled snots, princesses, etc that expect the World (and all of us) to cater to them. I overheard a lot of nastiness this weekend....lots of women putting other women down for their years in runDisney, or their times, or being faster than you, or staying at this level of Resort. Such a passive aggressive weekend. Welcome to Princess!
