Hello
i wanted some opinions on where i should stay. Iv stayed at disney many time (10plus) at the old dixie landings and pop century, but thats it. Im going in Aug and the prices for 7days are 715$ for the value room only and 1026$ for the moderate room only?? is it worth the extra money to stay at the moderate locations?? any recommindations on places to stay???

thanks

We just returned from a stay at Coronado Springs Resort, and I have to give it my top recommendation. We have stayed at nearly every resort on property, and for the moderate price this is absolutely the best! The rooms feel very upscale, with queen beds and beautiful linens. The main complex is lovely and includes a beautiful food court, restaurant and bar, while the pool is perfect. I think it is well worth the extra money!

I'm of the philosophy of if you're going to spend a lot of time at the hotel, bump it up a level. If you're going to be in the parks most of your time, then stay in a value.

I usually stay in a value, but with this next trip being at the end of August, I know we'll be wanting a lot of pool time so we're going for POFQ. That way we'll have the option of going to POFQ or POR's pools :lookaroun

it depends on you. If you can easily afford the extra couple hundred dollars and you spend anytime what so ever in the resort (like at the pool) then I'd say strongly consider upgrading to moderate. For my family, yes we found it's worth the extra money to stay at mod's, unless it's a quick weekend trip. We personally like POFQ because the smaller resort, it's quieter, and the kids seem to be better supervised by their parents at the pool than some of the values we've stayed in. The grounds are beautiful and we get to take a boat ride to DTD. If you choose Coronado Springs, they have queen size beds, so it's more comfy for a family of four, they have sit down dining, and beautiful grounds too. Moderate buses are closer than value busses when being picked up from MK too. Pop and Allstars are the furthest bus stops at the MK when you're being picked up to go back to your resort.

Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with the value and we stay there too, Pop has a great food court area and pool but we just like the feel of the mod's better.

You didn't say if your children were going with you.

If they are, then your choice merely depends on the ameneties you desire for you and your family. Also, whether you prefer a more elegant feel to your hotel as provided by the moderate resorts.

If there are no children with you, or if they are teenagers, the moderate resorts are the only way to go. Not only are they more elegant, such as my favorite - Port Orleans Riverside mansions, but there are fewer children around. As a result, it is quieter and more relaxing at the hotel.

Just my thoughts, but regardless of your choice I know you will be pleased.....afterall, it's Disney!

We always figure that it's worth it to move up from a Value resort to a Moderate resort but we don't see its being worth it to move from a Moderate Resort to a Deluxe resort. The move to a Deluxe resort is a bigger jump.

Now-- if the budget were not a problem I'd be staying at The Grand Floridian.

I absolutely, positively, 100% feel that the moderate is DEFINATELY worth the upgrade! (as long as it won't put you in any kind of financial bind). I think about it this way: yes, a value resort would be cheaper. But for $300 more (for the WHOLE week), you will get a much larger room (even if the sq. ft. isn't much more, they feel WAAAAY bigger), a refrigerator for no additional cost (there's $70 savings right there), a much more "relaxed" atmosphere, much better theming, and a much better pool (with a water slide which is a #1 priority on my list, or my son's rather). I LOOOOVE resorts, and it is totally worth it in my book!

Personally, I'd stick to the Value Resort, but relaxation for me is staying in the room reading or watching tv. Even so, the paths around hour glass lake are rather quiet, so if I'm in the mood to walk I walk around those. Since I don't use the pools, ever, a small slide means nothing to me. I personally wouldn't mind a refrigerator, but I never rent one.

That all said, it really depends on what you want from your resort. A larger room for me is not needed since I usually go alone. But do you need or want the space? Do you care if the pool has a waterslide? When relaxing at the resort, will you be outside most of the time or mostly in your room? Because the values are much larger than the moderate and deluxe resorts, there is a lot more activity going on. But if relaxing means staying in your room, it won't matter. Use the extra $300 to splurge on souvenirs, snacks, tours, etc. It's your vacation, it's not a time for deciding what you need, but rather, what you want, that's in your price range!

I would go with the value. The savings alone is enough to boost your souvenier buying or maybe have a few more sit down meals. I am all about saving when I can. To me the rooms are just a place to shower and sleep, as long as it is clean I am okay paying less and playing more. As has been said, you will be in WDW so any thing you chose will be okay!

The difference in price will buy a lot of beer at the many Disney Park bars, even at Disney's price. Go value and spend the money on something else.

also depends on the time of year you go. Cheerleaders, High School Marching Bands, and other tour groups are a real turn off for me when it comes to the Value Resorts.

We have stayed at a value resort once, Moderates 4 times over the past 2 years, and Deluxes also 4 times over the past 2 years.

We look for peace and quiet when we go to the Mods. We usually plan to have a day or two when we get to just lay by the quiet pools. Moderates are more spread out than the Values are so they also seem less crowded in that sense as well. Plus it's nice that at Coronado you can get queen beds and at the others you can request a king for only about $20 more. Plus we always bring milk, bottles of water, and some softdrinks that we keep in the fridge which also saves us money (because we don't have to buy those and because we don't have to rent a fridge).

But if you're looking to spend ALLL of your time in the parks, then most of that stuff doesn't matter.

now one year....we had a trip where we planned to spend most of our time at the parks and the ended up upgrading us to a Honeymoon Suite at WL...that threw a rather nice wrench into our plans! :)

This year the DWF and I were planning to stay at the POP Century. We waited a bit and also looked at booking through our AAA membership. We saved a total of $450 dollars off the price of our favorite resort the Dixie Landings. So we have booked our vacation at Dixie Landings and have fogotten about the value resorts. Shop around and see if you can get a good saving on a moderate resort like we did. One of the reason for the moderate resorts for us is because they are layed back, themed and cared for and it just makes us feel we are on vacation to have fun, relax and enjoy all there is to see and do. Staying at the moderate or Deluxe rsorts makes you lose that hotel feeling and makes you feel that you are tryuly in a resort.

Well, I'd say go for the value and spend the money elsewhere. But then I thought, who is going with you? whats on your must do list?
We are a family of 4 2A & 2 girls 13 & 9

We went in March/April and stayed at Pop and had a great trip. The room was quiet, we were on 4th floor, corner room at 50's section. Buses were great to and from all parks including early entry hours. We knew we would be going in early.

We are going in July and staying at Yacht Club. We know it will be hot and crowded. So we want to get to the parks early, leave mid day, swim and relax and go back. Because this is what we want out of our July trip we opted for YC. We like to be close to Epcot and the studios, we love the pool area and the resort atmosphere & activities at YC & Boardwalk. Even when we have a fridge in the room, we rarely use it. Personally I am not going to splurge at a resort and then haul food and/or drinks into the parks to save money...but thats just me.

I would say that CSR is our least favorite mod resort. It is a convention resort and feels like it. We were close to the main area and main bus stop, but we were far, far, away from the Dig Site. Plus the bus has to go around the resort before heading out to the parks, so you may or may not have a seat depending on which stop you are at. Good luck and you'll have to let us know what you decided.

DVC Properties?

Have you looked into renting/buying DVC points? depending on the dates in Auguest you might be able to get into DAKL for 78 points. The points can be rented(bought) for $13 a point. $1014 for the week. I found a site by googling 'DVC Point Rental'. If anyone has done this, I would also be interested in their feedback.

We have stayed at both and only both. My husband and I at this point don't see why to spend the money on a bed when most of our time is at the parks, so we have never done a deluxe. Maybe one day when my girls are older and it is a an adult only vacation we will.
When are you going in August? The biggest reason we have done moderate over value the last few summers is because of the crowds. Being a teacher we must go in the summer and we have found that the crowds seem lighter at the moderates. Especially the French Quarter where we will be staying again this July. But if you are going later in August then the values may not be as crowded. As others have said it really depends on what you want out of a resort. I just want a bed and a bathroom.

Well, if you are planning on staying at a value, i'd say go with Pop. It is the only one that doesn't really feel like a value and you have your own buses, too.

My answer is for Mods, however it also depends on how much time you are going to spend in your resort. Will you use the amenities there, hang there and want to eat there? If so, then a mod is prob the way to go. As others have mentioned, the mods are roomier, most have 2 sinks, etc., POR and POFQ have boat rides to DTD, which is a nice ride also.
So, you really need to decide if the extra $300 is worth all of the things everyone has mentioned or you'd rather use it for the dining plan or souvenirs. Check out your top value and your top mods web sites and compare and see which is right for your family.:)
