Hi everyone, I just got a letter from Sheraton Vistana Resorts. It sayd we can get 5 days and 4 nights for $169 in a 1br villa plus they will give us $100. So what's the deal? I assume I'll have to listen to someone trying to sell me a timeshare, what else? How long does their spiel last? Anyone know the details?

Most of the sales presentations last 2-3 hours, and they are mandatory to get the best rate

It depends on the company....If you are looking at Marriott, Hilton, or Sheraton, you are pretty safe.....

Westgate, or any of the other no-name brands.....your experience will not be so great, and your hotel might be nasty too

I just called the 800 number and the lady looked up my invitation code and she repeated the info on my invite. Then I asked her how long the timeshare sales pitch took and she said there is NO presentation!!! I was like, I can come and go as I please? We won't have to listen to anything?? She said no it's just as if I called to make a reservation at any hotel and happened to get a great deal for $169 plus tax. And the $100 they give you back at check in is cash!! I'm looking for a 2006 calendar now and about to call back for a date. We can go anytime in the next 12 months except actual holidays, so we will try for a few weeks before Christmas, if not we'll go in March of 2006! Man I'm so excited! We weren't planning on going back until 2007! Woohoo!

mkt is right; they don't call it a "sales pitch" but it amounts to the same thing. It might be called a "welcome breakfast" or "reception" or whatever, but once you're there, it's tough getting out.

Last time I got stuck, I had to just get up and leave; the "90 minute presentation" had aleready stretched into 2 hours with no let-up in sight! The fact that I kept saying that my 11 year old was back at the condo alone and I HAD to go didn't faze him at all. All this for a free meal. (Thank you so much BIL and husband.)

AKKK!! Oh man, your kidding me! I asked her several times in several different ways and she kept saying no. Isaid "So I can plan my trip however I want and at no time would I have to cancel or miss out on anything we are planning to attend anything at all?" She said No. Well, they might be in for quite the surprise, when A) I promise my 3 year old $5 if he acts as bad as he can during the whole thing and B) I plan my baby's feeding so that he is starving about 15 minutes into it! Then I can either let him scream for a little bit while my 3 year old is yelling "Mommy! I think he needs a boobie!" (as he so often does at inapropriate times) or just plop it right out and start feeding him (sometimes this is a great way to get people to scatter) I'll definately let yall know how it turns out. Thanks, Heidi

Actually if you have the ability to record the conversation; I'd bring a tape just to show anyone who tries to force you into something; that you are not playing. I would hope the Attorney General's office would be interested that, although a tourist asked and was repeatedly told there were no strings attached, was informed at check-in that this in fact was not the case; that seminar attendence was required.

honestly, I would say nothing. I've been to these before, and any verbal...ness of any sort signifies interest. stay quiet, and leave.

I'll come too... we can have a nurse in. :) And I've got THREE kids to bring... my 5 year old can play with yours and be as loud as they can be...and my 3 year old can join in just for added fun. :)

Sounds to good to be true...

We stayed at Star Island Resort Vilas two years ago... we bought the vacation from a friend who had a time share there... on the itinerary they gave us at check in they had a welcome event...we chose not to go... but of course we weren't there on a cheay/freebie tye deal...

I hope it works out! Do you have a plan B if it fails?
