50's Prime Time--changes?

I read that the Whispering Canyon has toned down or even eliminated the "shenanigans" that so many people loved. (sidebar: I have also seen a lot of cranky-pants who undoubtedly would have a major hissy if they received more than one bottle of ketchup. I suspect this was a factor)

That said, how is the ambience at 50's Prime Time these days?
Admittedly (and sadly), my last trip was ~2002 and we thoroughly enjoyed being "reminded" to keep elbows off the table, eat the carrots, etc.

I have an ADR for January 2019, and kinda want things to be the same.

Thanks.

When we dined there last year, they didnt bother us too much, granted two adults so our server didnt do a lot of the shtick, which for us was fine. Bigger parties or those with kids I noticed they put it on more. It all depends on the server you get I think, and they can tell who is into it and who doesn't want to be bothered so much. The food was very good. And we would go back, only downside like most Disney restaurants these days is it was very crowded and chaotic.

Yeah, I've been to whispering canyon twice since the "settling down" announcement, and much of it still continues. May be slightly less "obonoxious" (?) but the CM's are still having quite the fun with it and still had 12 bottles of ketchup to choose from. It was a blast. ;)

I have 50s prime time reservations in December, it's been a little over a year or so since I've last dined there. I think it all comes down to the cousin (server), but they seem to make sure everyone joins the clean plate club still!

Had dinner at Whispering Canyon about two weeks ago, my daughter asked for ketchup and our waitress asked if we wanted lots of ketchup or just one bottle. She told us they have to ask now before doing anything over the top.

The two aren't related in any way. Whispering Canyon is 1) in a resort and 2) the only family dining option at that resort. Prime Time is 1) in a theme park and 2) one of many options in that theme park, most of which don't have a shtick with their service.

Every resort on property, at least in the Deluxe category, needs to have a "normal" family dining experience. If you have two (or many) restaurants, it's fine to have crazy options and normal options, but you can't have just a crazy option.

Weve dined at 50s Prime Time many times. Our last dining was in May of this year. We had a very pleasant server who really got into the act with us. He bantered back and forth with everyone at our table throughout the dining time. On other trips we had servers who either didnt act out at all or did so more reserved. So I think it all depends on who you get as a server at that time and how much you go along with the routine. We enjoy the back and forth harassment so we encourage it when it begins.

I assume when you refer to a "family dining option" you are referring to a table service meal? I am just back from a week at WL and my family ate at a few locations at the lodge, we only ate at Whispering Canyon once.

Table service excluding signatures. WCC is the only such restaurant at WL.

50s prime time is pretty good about reading what the guest is willing to engage in. If they get the hint you just want to eat and be left alone, than thats what they do. Because of that I don't see it really changing.

Just got back and whispering canyon is a morgue compared to before. Really boring.

And as correctly pointed out: there is still a refined atmosphere next door...for a month anyway.

WL will be all cafeteria and quickserve by next year...

Love the place, hate where the dining is going.

You need something in between "rowdy" and "refined." I love Artist Point, but a place with a dress code and $45 entrees isn't what I'd call a "family restaurant," especially at a place like WDW.

No, I think there should be options. Each deluxe resort should have a Whispering Canyon-type option, an Olivia's-type option, and an Artist Point-type option.

Well artists point is done for buffet...making it basically breakfast only...

Whispering canyon had declined a lot (where have we seen that before?)

And geyser point is a quickserve with a bar and a waiter...more or less.

Wilderness lodge is such a nice place (credit iger and wells...iger would never play for that detail)...the food is gonna be inadequate from the quality perspective this time next year.

Maybe they've gotten better at this, but on my one and only time dining at the Prime Time, my "cousin" didn't understand this. Her fun banter quickly accelerated into badgering and harassment, and I just wasn't having any fun at all.

My wife hates that kind of stuff and we have never had that issue. Maybe it's the, I'll rip your head off and shove this pot roast down your throat if you dont leave us alone vibe she gives off. Lol
