5 days at Disney, which park do you choose for that extra day?

We have a 5-day trip coming up next June - Yippee!! The question is where to spend the extra day - at MK or AK? My family of 6 voted and it was tied. Our kids range from 15 to 21 (so no little ones).

We are all very excited to see Pandora, but still not sure it's now a 2-day park, or am I wrong? Did Pandora change things for AK? Personally, MK is my favorite so I could easily spend 2 days there. What would you do? I didn't include Epcot or HS because we are for sure only going there for one day each. I wish we could decide after we go the first time, but you know, with fast passes and dining, that's not possible.

Magic Kingdom because you can't do all the rides/shows in one day. And if you want decent food, just catch a monorail to one of the MK resorts.

That's another thing to consider... dining. We usually take breaks in the afternoons and we like to sit down for a nice dinner. There's more options around MK (at the nearby resorts). I guess it's obvious which one I prefer!

Pandora has added to the parks attractiveness but it still is lacking in comparison to MK. If I had a spare day with kids I'd go for MK... Lots more to do with the kids, its not as oppressive heat wise, theres better dining options and you get more entertainment thats kid driven.

MK... EPCOT can be done in a day... HS easily a day... AK less than a day... Only MK needs more than a day to truly enjoy... But in the end it really depends on what people like to do. Frankly if you have kids that old why not let people do their own thing and people go to two different parks.

Thinking outside the box on our last two trips we were fortunate enough to get all the parks in early and with the extra day we went back to the Magic Kingdom which was fine back then. Thinking about it now (did not stay on site) I wished we would have ridden the monorail to all parks for the ride and views and visited all the hotels to take in the beauty and finished with a boat cruise into the sunset. That is the plan on my next trip.

Why do a park twice? Why not hit Universal for a day?

We're not leaving the Disney bubble, that's why. :p
Actually, we have been to Uni/IOA before and it was fantastic, but this is a Disney only trip. We usually do 5 days and the extra day is usually MK, but I thought maybe with Pandora being open we'd do AK twice. In fact, I'm hoping FOP will be as good as HP.

Cause we have fun together. It never occurred to me to split up.

I vote magic kingdom, there is just so much to do there. But you could always go with the flow and decided a couple days into your trip what to do, this has been our approach when we cant decide during planning, I think that's the best approach if possible. We are going for 5days in January and are doing 2 MK, 2 Epcot, and either AK 1 day or adding another MK depending on what we feel like doing. you cant get around the fastpass, but with dining you can book options for each park, they just need to be cancelled 24hrs in advance to avoid paying a fee

If it was tied, why not let those that want to do MK do it, others go to AK. We have fun together too, but we often split; DH often heads back to the resort early, youngest DS likes to wander himself and do the few rides he likes over and over. I can't tear myself away lol! So we start together, have a rough plan which some continue with, others don't.

However, depending what day you are doing AK, you may not get FoP even on day 4. So if you really want the fastpass for it, it may need to be on day 5. You could always book that for everyone, and then leave the rest open. Or book the next 2 for those that are staying, and let those who want to do MK book theirs once you tap in to FoP. You can get most things day of, I would do 7dmt and BTMRR on your first MK day. Anything else should be doable.

Otherwise, just leave it open. Book a meal somewhere you'd like to eat, it can always be cancelled or changed.

Just remember that while you may have fun with everyone.... the other folks might also have fun without the whole group... I know as a parent ya often like to think the kids will be lost without you, but sometimes the kids want some time away from the parents but will often not say anything because they don't want to upset the parents.... What do you have to lose by giving them that option? Who knows you and your spouse might have more fun without the kids.

Sounds like you are wanting a second day at MK - so go for it! I personally could spend two days at AK with all of the new stuff and love the new food options there. But I'm one to sit and enjoy the shows and wander the animal trails for a while so that fills in some of the time. If you are rides-focused I think MK makes the most sense for a repeat to get it all in!
