4th of July

What is it like to go to the World on the 4th of July?

I think about going this year but I'm not yet sure.

11 years ago I've been there but only July 5th, I missed the fireworks of the 4th, it seemed to be fantastic, but you see, it's a while ago!

Can somebody provide me with good hints?

What's the best place to be on the 4th. Epcot, MK, or MGM?

The parks are packed.

Wherever you go if you go, get there plenty early. They closed gates in 2001 early in the afternoon.

I haven't been to MGM or MK on the 4th. I've been to Epcot, but I was working so I'm partial to it.

Two years ago, we arrived on July 4th....and 3 of the 4 parks were closed by mid-afternoon due to the crowds...
we happened to be staying that year at the Boardwalk and managed to see an extended fireworks display at Epcot but have wondered ever since if the fireworks are better at the MK.
...we will be there this year on the 4th...

July 4 *used* to be an amazing day to visit. The firework show at Epcot was the regular show, PLUS a 20minute additional finale, which was incredible. However, the past 2 years the firework finale has been reduced from 20minutes to 4 minutes, and all perimeter fireworks at Epcot (behind the showcase buildings) has been cut. Based on last years show I wouldnt bother going on the 4th again.

I thank you very much and Steve, I take good note of your interesting comments.

I was sure the parks are very crowed that day. What I am curious to see is if the atmosphere is different than another day.

So please continue to give me your comments.

Myself I would go to Epcot, (that's my favorite place!) but maybe I would be tempted to try something different. On top of the good entertainment in the parks, is there something special in Pleasure Island?

Also another question, given this past 6 month patriotic surge, can we expect to see Disney "invest" a little more in the celelbration of this year?

:king: :king:

Thanks, Bongo

For me, the whole July 4 was based around the night shows - because I just love them! :) So I would bear the crowds just to be there for the fireworks. The crowds are always huge that day, so dont figure on using that day as a productive day in the park for doing attractions.

Its my opinion, that without the big firework shows, it is not worth planning a trip to WDW for that day. I would go another time with less crowds. If however you are there at that time, Epcot has the largest capacity, and is best equipped to cope with huge crowds.

I havnt heard anything about the July 4 firework shows yet for this year, so they MAY be back to their former self, if enough people complained about them last year. :)

If you are curios as to how the July 4 firework shows look, there are some videos on the main site at www.wdwmagic.com under IllumiNations, then Reflections of Earth.

July 4th

I was in Florida for July 4th in 2000 and we tried to go to MK....the park was closed to new entries. We did see the Epcot fireworks thou and they were fantastic. It was exceptionally busy throughout the world (especially in the water parks!!!!) We are going back on the 6th of July this year and i cannot wait.

Hope that you enjoy your holiday!!!!!

The more it is the more I'm interested to go.

My wife is pushing me to go, because I'm an annual passholder and she isn't. Anyway, we're supposed to be there at the end of August as well...:goodnevil :goodnevil

Epcot would be my choice... anybody has an idea whether there is something special at the American Adventure that day. Do they hand out hats or to they give cake on that day.

I'm Canadian but I was in Washington DC on July 4th a few years ago and it was a hell of a day... can I expect the same in Epcot?

:lookaroun :p

I honestly can't remember what they did for the 4th at AA.

I was SCHEDULED to work outside on the carts, but because I know what I'm doing, I was pulled into the kitchen for the entire 14 shift that I ended up working from 11 am to nearly 1 am.

You're certainly one of the ones whom are referred to when they sing ".....Home of the Braves", because you were very brave to work inside for 14 hours... I even give you some kudos because it's impressive to work at Epcot when it's so crowded.

I remember Dec 31st, 1999 how it was jam packed at Epcot and the cast members did an outstanding job, so I can understand a little what you were going through turkey leg boy!

I thank all of the cast members because in 14 different trips they were always great, but then on BIIIIIIIGGGG nights they're wonderful!

Well, I have a different perspective on things. I was a cast member at MK during July 4th of 2000. Thankfully I was only working parades that day so I wasn't out and about. But while doing the parades I looked to the crowd and it would have been impossible to try and push your way through. There was not 2 inches of free space anywhere on the sidewalks, I've never seen it so crowded, I'm not even sure how they got all the guests up there in the first place:veryconfu . I also watched the fireworks display from the Production Center backstage. It was pretty cool. All of the cast members were like little kids staring at the sky and the fireworks must have gone on for at least 15 minutes if not more. We were all very inspired...then the shells began raining down around us and we freaked out. All in all though it was great and I hope I get to experience that agin this year.:D

Chernabog, thanks for your comments, I like it very much to see the different comments.

I guess you had a lot a fun despite the big crowd. Wow, inspiring!

Just found this:

http://orlando.about.com/library/disney/blwdwjuly4.htm

"Disney's Magic Kingdom will light up the sky with a special version of Fantasy in the Sky Fireworks. In celebration of The Fourth of July, patriotic music will enhance the extended display of fireworks.

Guests staying at Disney's Contemporary Resort, Polynesian Resort and Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, will be able to view most of the colorful nighttime display."

will i still be able to go and see the perimeter fireworks around the Seven Seas Lagoon if im staying at allstar sports?

Thanks

I would like to be on the walk around the world, west of the magic kingdom...you know the name tiles all around the Seven seas lagoon. Do you think the walk way will be closed? and do you think they will have the water pageant at the same time.

Thanks
