4 Wheel Drive means NOTHING! DRIVE CAREFULLY!

Hey folks...

For those of you up in snowy climates, I just wanted to offer some words of advise...

Just because you may have an SUV with Four Wheel Drive... doesn't mean you are invincible. I remember when I was living up north, those SUV'ers would zoom right on by thinking their 4WD would glue them to the road, and get them anywhere. Often times, I'd then seem them a mile down the road, stuck in some ditch.

Well... just the other day, my parents were driving in thier SUV with full time 4WD on a back road... and they hit a patch of black ice, and slammed into a tree. Thier SUV is completely totalled. Airbags went off, and seatbelts held them in place... Thankfully, they are very much okay.

But I just wanted to remind everyone... PLEASE... Drive carefully.

Have a safe, and happy holiday season.

I want to second that. The only time I have ever been in an accident was when I owned a 4-Runner. I was actually being careful and still hit ice and slammed right into someone. That was the only SUV I have ever owned and the only time I've been in accident. Be safe and have a good holiday!

Probably the biggest problem for people with SUVs is that they forget 4 wheel drive may get you through the snow, but it doesn't help you stop. These people are driving 40 MPH on the roads, and then go to stop, and realize they can't.

I love to go out and play in the snow with my Jeep... although I actually know how to operate it in snowy, icy conditions. I spent most of Christmas evening pulling people out of ditches & their driveways. I think the soccer moms with their giant SUVs should stay off the road and leave them to experienced 4WD operators like myself! :D

I might also add then when driving in the snow, always drive as if everybody else on the road is out to get you.... you never know when somebody is gonna slid out into your lane or stop short. I leave about 10 car lenghts between myself and the next person, if there is anybody else out. Do the same when pulling out, don't put the person behind you in a position where they may have to make drastic movements (slam on their brakes, turn hard, etc.)

Stay safe!

the other morning it was cold enough and it rained the night before, that a few of the roads I had to drive on had a layer of ice on them....

I wish people in Florida knew how to drive. Locals, imports, and tourists... none of them can. When it rains and there's ice, YOU DON'T TAILGATE...

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION!

Connecticut has a lot of pretty towns and some, like mine, are no more than 10 minutes away from the hectic, city pace.

I built this shed...pretty good eh?:animwink:

(I need to build another one with all the crap I have)

Weather you have a SUV or a Sedan, you need to know how to drive in the first place. True having an SUV doesn't make you invincable on the road but if you know how to drive in the first place then your beter off. I would recomend these folks take a survival driving cource Like they offer at the Bob Bondurant school of high performance driving http://www.bondurant.com/ where they teach you how to drive responsibly and safetly in all kinds of conditions.

I have added a picture of a vehicle they use in there Highway survival cource

Yep...my sister spun out on the highway the other day (in her new Subaru WRX  ) But, luckily she was ok, went into the ditch and with the power of all wheel drive, drove right up and out. (although...her front fascia (near the foglamp) was barely dented up...and...she's got $1800 worth of repairs!!! I guess with the bump (and they proved it to us) that it has crumple zones and the jarring of that front fascia buckled the door in a little bit along with the driver's side fender...EEK

But, back to the point at hand.

I have a big pickup...and even with 4WD, you have to be extremely cautious. Sure, it's great in the snow...but I don't care WHAT you're driving, if you're on ice...unless you have spikes on your tires...you are NOT going to have any traction.

Yep, I have a pick up too and I've found that it seems to be even tougher to handle when you get into bad situations in winter. Just because you're vehicle is big doesn't mean you rule the road

on christmas night at like 7pm i was driving back to merrick in one of those huge vans,it took 2hours for a 15minute drive since all the suvs where stuck.it was weird since everyone was stuck by roosevelt field.
